Draft: Trading with SEA is a Win-Win, if they take Power, then we are forced into an F (Beniers is my preferred pick), however, if SEA takes Beniers anyway, then we get who we were expecting in Power.
2 of Beniers/Power/Eklund, LA's pick I want to walk out of the 1st round with 2 Fs and 1D. If we land Beniers/Eklund, take Clarke or Hughes.
*My Rankings:*
Beniers
Power
Eklund
Clarke
Guenther
Hughes
Johnson
McTavish
Wallstedt
Edvinsson
*UFAs:*
I targeted guys who are in need of a bounceback year:
McCabe might get paid most by us due to his knee injury, plus our need on D.
Ullmark wants long term starter money, and he's good enough for that, but he can't prove to stay healthy.
Caggula played well for Granato, could be subbed for most B6ers, but due to familiarity, he was kept around
Derek Ryan: On the way out of CGY, has prior experience playing well with Skinner, good B6er, Karmomos knows him, probably would get the most playing time here.
Vatanen: 2nd down year in a row, could use a team to bring him in for a year, not worry about winning, but getting back to being a good B4 defenseman.
*RFAs:*
Mitts and Asplund earned raises
Jokiharu gets a small bump to keep growing, at the end of the contract hopefully will earn a much bigger salary
Dahlin, the smart move is an 8 x 8 or something, however with the team rebuilding and Dahlin having some down seasons from expectations, and the team not wanting to commit to ANYONE long term, Dahlin gets bridged.
*Trades:*
ANA: Jack and his gunner go to ANA for a big prize. While Anaheim isn't in the best position to give their best prospect and 3OA, they still have very quality talent and with a proper retool could be back in the playoffs quickly. Zegras *could* turn into Jack, or they can just get Jack. Perrault is a good prospect but it will be some time before he's as NHL ready as olofsson(an NHLer) is. Henrique is a cap dump.
LAK: Sam goes to LA with an extension in place, and Risto helps on the right side, playing Rob Blake's type of hockey. LAK has a glutton of C prospects, so they can afford to trade Turcotte and 8OA, and for their troubles they alleviate cap with Quick being traded.
SEA: This trade was explained earlier but essientially they take Colin Miller and swap him for another (hopefully better) D, and for that they get 1OA for 2OA. This trade plays 2 parts, it forces makes the decision at 1 for BUF and upgrades our D. As someone who isn't in love with Power at 1, this is why I make this trade.
Kings decline, unless there is a very friendly contract coming back I don't understand why you would give the 8th overall, your second best prospect, if you are a few more pieces away from completing your rebuild.

What pieces are LAK missing though? They have a very deep prospect pool, why not trade 8OA(a guy who might play in a year or 2) for a guy who can anchor your 2nd line for the next 7-8 years while Kopitar falls and Byfield/Villardi rise.
Risto is adding an NHL defenseman to the roster. So you're trading 2 futures for players that can/will be on the team for years. Turcotte you'd hope turns into the 25g 65 point player that Sam is. Its a steep price, but I tried to go hopeful and realistic on this. Sam is a guy many teams would want, which would increase his value.
The flaw in your thinking about Reinhart (which isn't limited to you, of course, but every Sabres fan who is trying to trade him) is that he's a long-term solution for any team. He's not. He's a one-year rental. So his trade value is severely diminished. As a result, the Kings won't be trading Turcotte OR the eighth overall selection in this year's draft for him. And Ristolainen isn't a sufficient improvement over Doughty, Roy or Walker to be expending even a modest asset on him because he, too, is a one-year rental.
Bad, rebuilding teams shouldn't be wasting future assets on expensive rentals.

While I agree with the Risto reasoning, I’d be trading Reinhart with an extension in place, I may have missed that

What is the extension, because if he wants $7.25M x 6 the kings are better off going after the free agency.
The team just needs gap placeholders for 2-3 years until their farm team graduates into full time NHLers. The Kings have assets, but more importantly they have the cap space. Honest question which would you rather have:
Risto (overpaid and unnecessary with Roy and Walker) + Reinhart (signed at 7x6) OR Turcotte, the 8th overall, and the cap space to sign Jaden Schwartz (6.5M x 2) and nearly $8M to find another top-6 winger or top LD (kings dressed two rookies as top-4 LD last season)
