Description
*Not sure on the value of Hamilton's rights so maybe the Oilers add in a pick?*

Jones for Hamilton could make sense for both teams, Carolina gets a young D man who can play bottom pair minutes and may help attract his older brother come free agency. I am not sure how he would fit into Carolina's expansion draft plans (do Gardiner and Skjei get protected?). Edmonton gets another top pairing D man to go with Nurse.

Bringing Coleman in for 3 years at 4 million makes sense, I think he can play with McDavid for the first year or two and eventually move to the 3rd line when Holloway is ready to go, his deal would also then expire when Holloways ELC expires. Another pro with Coleman is he's not a guy who would expect to get PP time like other wingers Edmonton is rumored to be in on (Hyman, Tatar, Hall etc.)

Forbort is a decent 4/5 guy who when paired with a strong puck mover like Hamilton playing on the second pair could look pretty good, he also has only played around 300 NHL games so he should have some good hockey left in him, he also replaces that 'rough n tough' style that Larsson plays. (Ideally I'd like to keep Larsson but I think both Bear and Bouchard at much lower cap hits make sense in this scenario)

Andersen I believe is at least a decent bet (50%) to bounce back to be a .914-.918 goalie as he's proven in the past that he's capable of doing it over full seasons.

Josh Levio has always had attractive underlying numbers and I think he's someone who could help create a good fourth line with some offense.

Not sure if Getzlaf would leave Cali but he grew up in Regina so it's possible he would come to Edmonton (although I read he was a Flames fan growing up so who knows)

If you are scared you can’t get Hamilton in free agency and need to trade for him…and don’t give him 8 years, then you shouldn’t be chasing Dougie.

Just wait and off him $8x6 as a UFA.

I have a feeling were gonna see the following

Dougie meets with Team X, they give him 8.5 x 8 but uh oh (FA can only sign 7 unless its Seattle)

so Team X and Carolina make a deal (Carolina signs him for 8 years than trades him to Team X)

little unconventional but lets be real he is going in a sign and trade if he wants out

But what happens to the space he leaves open

what other big name Dman said he wants out (Seth Jones)

Carolina uses some of the assets they got for Hamilton and trade for Jones

Now there is always the option of team X just giving him a year less but I have a feeling Carolina and him will have a deal in place to do a sign and trade should they not agree on a contract

The logic is there, and I appreciate that.

Carolina is a very analytical-run organization, with Eric Tulsky commonly accepted as being one of, if not, the best analytical masterminds in the NHL. Tulsky is an assistant general manager in Carolina, so he holds a strong position of power. Seth Jones' analytics aren't good. At all. The assets Carolina would be willing to give up to get him would be underwhelming for Columbus. Furthermore, in free agency, he is likely offered below market value from Carolina. On the back of that, I don't think this makes sense. I think trading Hamilton's rights for a roster player makes a lot of sense, and I could even see Caleb Jones being a target if Hamilton can agree a contract in Alberta. However, the link to Seth is farfetched and really serves no purpose.
