What do you all think?

Is it more/less? An $11m contract in a flat cap era seems almost unmovable to me. There are probably only a few teams that take it on without sending salary back.

I would think an offer from Devils would be something like:

One of: Zacha, Wood, Kuokkanen, Mercer
One of: Boqvist, McLeod, Gritsyuk
One of: Merkley, Thompson, Clarke
One of: 2021 NYI 1st, 2023 1st (top-10 protected)
One of: 2021 2nd, 2022 2nd

Leafs will likely ask for Hughes, Smith, Severson, Holtz, etc which would only become a conversation if Toronto retains a sizable chunk of the salary. At full fare, I’d think the price for the Devils should be around what’s listed above.

Dubas had all the leverage and got hosed.
Marner would be a valuable piece to a team, at a 6 mil cap hit.
At 11 he might as well be Neal. No one wants that contract.
Dubas should have told him no, and been done with it. Even if he sat for the year. The long term damage of that contract is far greater than the short term damage that would have been done.

Probably more than you’d expect, but I think you’d have to combine 2 of these pieces into 1 pretty good piece. Marner is only owed like 6 mil in real dollars per year and is unquestionably a top line talent. That’s an attractive trade chip.

"real dollars" is a talking point that does not factor into trade values. Its $10.9 million AAV and that is what matters.

Can combine two the above pieces into one more attractive piece if the pieces still come from that list above (so like combining Boqvist and Merkley into Kuokkanen).

Wood, Kuokkanen, 1st, 2nd would be a good offer.

not as much as leafs think they going to get, his cap is was will hurt is value greatly, leafs cannot take back dead cap either in a trade, marner is a playmaker not a goal scorer, he is, in no way worth 11m, 8M should have been his cap hit at the most.
