Definitely lose some scoring depth after making this trade. I agree that Eichel would be fantastic but the fact we gut our depth might not necessarily make him a great target. It's tough for me to say a potential 90-100 point center with Kaprizov and Zucc is a bad idea though.
I guess the big question(s) is/are: how much of an impact will Rossi make after losing a year of development (he is extremely talented, don't get me wrong) and how much of an impact does Fiala make without linemates that can capitalize on his chances? Is having a top 10 center with Kaprizov better than the answer to those questions? That's what Guerin will have to answer.
I know, imagine Kaprizov actually getting to play with a center as skilled as Eichel. That line would be incredibly successful. I'll admit this is a bit tin foil-y, but what worries me about this is that our first line would be killing it, while the rest of the team struggles. If Eichel got frustrated being in that type of situation again, only now in MIN, I think things have the potential to get pretty toxic. Or knock on wood, any type of injury to the top line. I think while the potential reward is very high, the risk is also very significant. I think prioritizing scoring depth (Monahan, Reinhart, Dvorak, Schmatlz, Strome, etc) over a blockbuster guy in Eichel is better overall. It would allow us to better absorb the inevitable low points of the season (losing streaks, injuries, goalie inconsistencies).
I do think Fiala needs help very badly though. He can't go another season with a rotating cast of bottom 6 guys. Idk it's a tough situation. I see the arguments for both sides, and like you said, Guerin will have to make a decision one way or the other.
