Description

Buyout - Canucks can find players that are more impactful than Roussel at league minimum salaries, he makes the most sense as a buyout candidate to free up cap space for a team that will need it desperately.

Free Agency - Canucks sign Soderberg to be another temporary bottom six centre option while they try to identify someone more long term. Soderberg is reliable defensively and could provide better offensive upside compared to jay Beagle. Canucks also sign Merrill as a reliable defensive option to play with Schmidt. Merrill is once again a temporary option that can provide depth and help improve the team in the defensive end. The Canucks also bring in guys like Weal, Poolman, Forsberg (each have played NHL games) as depth options that they can stash in Utica if need be.

Draft- Ideally the Canucks can use their high picks in 2021 to address some of their long terms needs which include finding another top six forward, finding a top 9 centre-man, or top 4 defencemen.

The Roussel buyout actually makes zero sense to me. All VAN gains is 1.266 m and then has to deal with .633 the following year. If VAN just buries Roussel they gain 1.125m and nothing the following year. I have heard and seen the Roussel buyout as something that VAN should do but it makes no sense to me.

Roussel buy out makes no sense. Just bury him it’s almost the same. Besides, you’ve left 1.6 million in cap space, you don’t need to buy him out. You don’t need to to trade away Beagle either for such a high cost. Just wasting money and assets for no gain

Holtby buyout saves way more both in terms of cap space and real dollars

That's actually not a good idea for the Jackets. We get very little of value back for Kukan, and likely end up losing someone else we'd like to keep.
