2 Parts to My Hall Trade:

1st Part—Hall for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd: Hall hasn’t been the same since his MVP season. His value definitely decreased since then, and he definitely isn’t making a strong case to get a huge contract this offseason. The Sabres likely won’t be in playoff contention come March, so the Sabres trade Hall since he hasn’t been working out for them. The Sabres win this part of the trade, but the value will be offset in the next part of the trade.

2nd Part-Skinner (36.66% Retained) for Hall and Komarov. This is an exchange of bad contracts. The Sabres win this part of the trade even with the retention. From 21-22 through 26-27, the Sabres will pay a total of 33.8 million between Ladd, Komarov, and Skinner, with 20.6 million of that being in the first two seasons. On the other hand, the Islanders are paying Skinner 5.7x6 which is 34.2 million. While the overall pay outs are almost the same, the Sabres are getting long term cap relief from this deal, which makes them win this part of the trade and this offsets the Islanders’ win in the first part of the trade.
