"Hey, you want this over-the-hills-and-far-away defenseman we just signed to a terrible contract? I've heard you hate 1st overalls"

It's an interesting trade idea, I'll give you that. As a Hawks fan I think we need to keep our core defensemen. RNH may have been the first overall, but there is literally only 1 player worse as a 1st overall in the past decade and EDM also picked Yak. Being first overall doesn't guarantee anything except for expectations.

That's such a double standard though. If he were drafted in the second round, no one would be talking about trading him but because he was drafted 1st overall, its 50 goals and 100 points a season or nothing. Sure not all 1st overall's will score like Matthews has so far but then again generational players only come along every generation or so. The rest are still good players, just not megastars.

Its so sad how bad of a rap some Edmonton players get.

Both players have value....maybe RHN isn't 6m worth, and soon probably Seabrook won't be worth 6.8m. Even without the Seabrooks' NMC maybe both teams don't make the deal.
IMO is RHN more tradable player, and possibly the Oilers can get a younger Dman in a trade.

F50 We had a few of discussions before. My post is directly regards to the #1 overall pick comment prior to mine to which I agree with you 100%. That's actually my point. (Should have quoted it in my previous post, but forgot.) We wouldn't be having this discussion is RNH was drafted even @ the 10th slot...or probably even #5 overall really. So to say..."I've heard you hate #1 overalls..." doesn't mean much. His peer level talent wise isn't of a #1 overall. The #1 overall is the generational slot. And you're right, not everyone is generational.

I'm going to leave that last part alone there...not sure how to take that one.

As a side note...how many generational players should there be in 100 years? (Next year makes 100 for the NHL.) Hard to say ANY player is generational until their career is over. McDavid and Crosby are 10 years apart. Do you think years from now they'll BOTH be considered generational? Other players are breaking milestones...Jagr may actually pass Howe at this point which is incredible.
