I agree, DeMelo isn't a top pairing dman, definitely not on a contender anyway, he's getting paid about a million too much imo.
The only way I see DeMelo as a top 4 dman is if he's on the 2nd pair with a very good LHD partner like say
H.Lindholm or someone like that but the Jets have no one close to that and it's a big stretch to think either of Heinola or Samberg will be that guy anytime soon.
And again this D core is far too small, was hoping to see at least one new addition back there with some snarl and bite to their game, I'm totally cool with Beaulieu and Sbisa coming back and they made probably the best 3rd D pair the Jets had but was still hoping for a new face in this D core besides the young guys.
Lots of offseason left, maybe there's another face coming in but considering Chevy's track record I think this is it.
Just keep coming back to the same question, are they trying to win a cup now or is this another transition year to see what they have in some of their young guys, as of now it definitely looks like the latter to me, above all else though I'm glad Laine is still a Jet, would be a major setback to trade him.
