As others have mentioned here, we don't really need a long term solution on LD as we're very happy with JMO, Samberg, Heinola long term, hopefully with one of them being able to switch over to the Right side at some point so Matheson isn't of interest.

With Savard being 1 year from UFA he doesn't represent a long term fix for our top pair RHD, and that's the only way we would move an Ehlers, Connor, Laine type player. 1 for 1. Not 1 for mamy pieces unless we landed a big UFA and suddenly needed the capspace.

That said, if you have the space going forward (and it certainly looks like you will), Savard could be a very good extension candidate at a reasonable hit. I think he'd go for even a modest raise over what he's currently getting, and he'd be a fantastic fit in the Winnipeg D corps.
