Description
Elaborating a little more on a previous ACGM

Trade Explanations

1) I fully admit I don't watch enough of the Blackhawks to properly assess Nylander's value. The sense I get is that most fans seem to despise him but that might just be because of the cost to acquire him (Jokiharju) was so steep. I do know he was once a highly-touted prospect so curious if he can turn it around and if he would have any chemistry with his older brother. At worst, this trade only provides Toronto with cap relief. If Nylander is as despised as fans seem to suggest a middle 6 winger of comparable age (3 years older) should be enough.

2) Ottawa acquires young player in Kapanen who's cap hit is higher than amount of cash owed. Would also be fun to see Kapanen and Formenton on a line one day. Toronto receives a high 2nd round pick (similar value to a late 1st rounder), a 3rd and a little cap relief. I added Gauthier for Paul because I don't think either team has long term plans for them aside from injury call ups and Gauthier's QO is less than Paul's which would likely interest the Sens.

3) Winnipeg would likely be interested in adding some young defensive depth and I don't see much of a future left in Toronto for Dermott now that Muzzin is signed long term and Sandin looking so promising. I think Copp would be more the 3C type Toronto needs so they package Kerfoot with Dermott to acquire him. Worth noting Kerfoot's contract is also front loaded so his cap hit is higher than the cash owed which may interest the Jets. Bracco is included because as per Toronto ACGM tradition he needs to be included in a trade.

Signings

1) Realistically Pietrangelo isn't coming unless Dubas pulls off some legitimate wizardry or breaks up the big 4 which I don't think he'll do this offseason. I think Toronto would be interested in both Gudas (grit!) and Demelo (competent). It doesn't fix their blueline, the right side is still a disaster but it would likely be better than anything the Leafs have seen in years.

2) Spezza returns because somebody has to fight. Jason "chuckles while chuckin' knuckles" Spezza is going to be taking names this upcoming season.

Notable transaction omissions

1 ) Decided to keep Andersen because moving him now would be selling when his value is at its absolute lowest. Would likely be better just keep Andersen for the season.

2) Justin Holl is still with the team because he looked adequate when paired with Muzzin and I don't think there's many teams who would want Holl at this point anyways. I have him with Muzzin to start the season but could see Lehtonen (left handed but plays the right side) force him out of the lineup.

No way, not a chance the Hawks give up a ELC player with good upside for an overpaid injured player

Ottawa counter offers the CBJ 2nd and the SJS 2020 6th for Kapanen. No other picks or players involved.

I think Gauthier has shown he’s not gonna be more than an extra forward. Paul has shown he can be a decent bottom six forward, I’d rather keep him (he had more points in less games and hits at nearly double the rate of Gauthier as well). The rest is an overpay for Kapanen.

Edit: I like TCMonkey’s counteroffer
