Description
Decided to try something that started from an idea against my general type of thinking.

The basis of this is that the Leafs are certain they can sign Demelo at around this price. If that's the case, I don't hate these moves.

The bottom six obviously takes a hit (I left one spot blank because there are a lot of things that can happen there - Clifford re-signing, Robertson making the team out of camp, Leafs taking a swing at a bargain bin FA) but I think it's still middle of the pack and the offence is remains very good.

The defense I think looks quite good. I know the right side still doesn't have some top tier player, but I think D overall is perfectly adequate (perhaps more than that if Lehtonen pans out).

If it were up to me, I'd probably trade down from Nashville's first to try and get 2 2nd's depending on who's falling, but I just left it as is for now.

if i need to move a player for only picks, im not having it be kapanen. id prefer to move kerfoot instead and shop the market for a 3C that may be cheaper than him (zacha, rodrigues, laughton). hopefully we can get deep enough into the playoffs so that johnsson plays and can up his value for the offseason. i think he could get a 3rd if he gets hot in the playoffs or just puts up okay points, but right now it would be a struggle to get that. EDM would probably go with a cheaper forward from another team instead of taking on the 3.4 million. EDM would probably prefer kapanen at the cap hit if they so choose to take on a 3M contract

I mean, yeah, you can move Kerfoot, but that's a completely different scenario. Under the situation laid out here, all of the options you suggested to replace Kerfoot (assuming ER makes at least what he made this year) would put us over the cap.

As mentioned above, Johnsson doesn't have to go to EDM - the deal could be anywhere.

Add Goat and Brooks and remove Rosen and you'll got your 22 man roster and still be under cap.

People's memory on here is so short. Johnsson has an injury and now everyone forgets he is a legit middle six player with speed who can put up 40 points a season. Those aren't as common as people think. He has value, I'd say if Edmonton thinks they can get a second for Pulli, TO can do the same with Johnsson. He is afterall a far more accomplished player in the bigs and minors (Calder Cup mvp)

johnny and pulli both coming off serious surgeries but pulli has already played and has shown to be pretty good post surgery in europe. its not so much a short memory thing as it is a serious injury and surgery. if it was the muzzin injury like a broken hand or a broken foot, the value really doesnt go down much, but following a surgery it definitely would make other gm's hesitant. not to mention other teams know the predicament the leafs are in and trading away a player with 3M+ salary will ultimately give the other team the upper hand in trade negotiations especially since hell be a cap casualty.
