Trading Gallagher is painful, he is the heart and sole of the Canadiens. That being said, he plays a hard game and when he falls off he will fall sharply IMO. Boeser has had injury problmes and his durablity is somewhat in question. Gallagher is the better player in this trade but is 5 years older. He still has some good years ahead of him but his style of play will catch up to him. Hoglander is a better prospect than Rhett. Montreal adds a late 2020 second round pick to balance the trade, mainly due to Gallaghers age.

Although I don't see Buffalo ever move Eichel, to see buffalo move him within the division would require a huge overpay. I see this as exactly that an overpayment. But to get the actual super start first line center that we have needed for what seems like forever.
