Description
Idea 3: Marner, Kerfoot, Dermott and prospects to carolina for Hamilton (seeing him in a toronto jersey should bring back memories) and Teravinen. With Hamilton only having a year left trading him and getting marner who can play with Aho will be cool. Teravinen will replace marner and with all the defense carolina has including prospects ready to come up hamilton could be expendable.

As for Thorton he fills in on the third line till one of our prospects like brooks can hopefully be Nhl ready in the 2021 season or when the cap increases and we can sign someone else.
Plus Weager for a potential 40 point winger and 2 good defensive prospects who can fill in the florida gaps is good especially for a team needing to shed cap.

Will listen to suggestions or other ideas cause this roster is by no means done

Carolina doesnt consider this. Sure Marner is a decent upgrade on TT but not at the coat of looaing their Norris caliber defenseman in Dougie. Everything else is just extras in the trade

lets face it dougie has 1 more year left carolina is stacked with dman and would not miss him. Trading him before he becomes a ufa is their safest bet. In this scenerio they get someone who can play with aho a good top lw or steady 3rd center, a defenseman they can develop, a power play specialist rookie, a 2nd tier prospect, and a star in marner, if they rejected that other teams would call them crazy. Especially if hamilton walks as a ufa and they got nothing for him. Plus they got so many nhl ready dman in their ahl affiliate that losing him would not hurt that much.

They would 1000% miss him lmao, that's like saying TOR should have just let Matthews walk last summer... He's their best player, but they have enough forward talent (even though at C, after the Kadri trade they were relatively weak... Lol CAR, they really only have Pesce as a legit top 4 option) also you seriously underrate turbo, he's a legit top line winger, maybe not quite Marner's level, but with the contract difference I don't think their values are that far off... And Dougie will get resigned, CAR has PLENTY of cap space and their owner is NOT afraid to spend money... Plus they have Tulsky, he's not an idiot, he knows Dougie should have won the Norris this year had he played the whole season... Teams would be laughing at CAR if they took this trade

Never be sure a player will resign with a team. the ufa market can pull almost anyone in. carolina is in a tough division and if other teams get their act together no playoffs for them. they only recently got good and who knows how long that will last. Hamilton may just be having a good year who knows if teams like calgary and boston traded him carolina may do the same, especially if there is a risk he walks which he may do. As for missing him no they traded to fill in the gap and the team has been playing well without so i dont think they would miss him.

CAR has the funds (cap space and actual $ wise) to offer him 12/yr...
(No playoffs) ok and... They have a young core etc
"Good year"... That's the understatement of the century
Iirc BOS got at least one top 10 pick back, I could be misremembering tho, and CGY got a recent top 10 pick AND a (lower end) top line winger... And all they had to give up was a middle 6 at best rental... This trade provides 1 of those things (a top line winger)+a bunch of meh for Dougie and a top line winger himself in Turbo
