How do we acquire a 2c. I hope it can be chytil but i still think he is at least two years away from possibly filling that role. outside of chytil there is no other center prospect that has that upside. Neither of lias or howden have the offensive skill to do so. So what are the options.
1. You can sign strome to a long term extension. I am not a fan of this solution since he is questionable defensively and I am still not totally sure if he can play without panarin.
2. Trade up in this years draft and draft one. Since the rangers have most likely two middle to late first round picks and plenty of assets to trade around i think this is the best option. One of Byfield/Stutzle/Rossi/Lundell/Perfetti are all centers that are likely going in the top 10. Granted it would take a couple of years for them to make an impact it is still the best rout to go.
3. Free Agency. The only decent free agent center is granlund and he is going to demand too much and he has been having a rough time since he got to nashville.
4. Trade. the main issue i have with a trade is the age and salary of the player we are likely to get. while a guy like trocheck would be a nice fit at 26 and 4.75 per year is it really the right rout to go. Most of the core outside out mika and artemiy are 18-22. I guess the real question im asking is if the rangers are trying to win now/next year or 3/4 years down the road.
