Description
Anaheim gets a good young 2nd pairing RHD who is decent defensively and also has a hint of offense along with a guy projected to be a good middle 6 player with 39 points in 48 games in the AHL this year for a young and gritty future top 9 forward and a young LHD stuck behind the stacked left side of Anaheim's defense. This trade is a huge help in terms of positional need for both teams. Anaheim has a ton of young left wingers in the system in Rakell, Comtois, Tracey, Ritchie, and Lundestrom which makes Jones expendable. However on right wing, they only have Silfverberg, Kase, and Terry with only Sherwood on Sprong coming up so they need some help there and Kole Lind fits the bill. Vancouver has some nice depth coming in on the right side but other than Joulevi there is no one else on the left side that they have coming up soon so Guhle helps there, while Anaheim has a plethora of LHD but they need a young RHD playing in the NHL already and that's where Stecher comes in. Overall I believe it's a positional swap that is beneficial for both teams involved. Fair?

I think I would say yes. Anaheim virtually HAS to trade one of Guhle, Larsson or Mahura for an equivalent RhD, and Stecher is a little more.

Back in the summer I asked Canuck fans what Stecher was worth and was told a fourth or fifth. I wish we had listened then.

Thanks man! Also can you fill me in on Jones a little bit? Does he seem to be a mainstay for the ducks future or will Murray perhaps move him as early as this deadline for a return like this?

I think it’s a decent offer. My only concern is whether Stecher could be had for cheaper. He’s a 3rd pairing RD that can play top 4, but isn’t an outright top 4D imo. I wouldn’t feel bad about this trade, so I guess it’s ok from an ANA perspective.

Well done.

Meh, the value is probably fine, but the Ducks might as well wait until the offseason and grab a similar UFA at that point.

So far Jones looks to me to be a slightly more skilled Nick Ritchie. Right now I think his ceiling is #3LW. I think Max Comtois is a superior prospect for the long term. Training camp will be interesting, as will the Calder Cup playoffs (if San Diego makes them).
