Was it an abysmal performance from the Habs vs CHI? yes, 100%. was it all the players fault? no, absolutely not!
Talking about setting yourself up to fail... Julien's decision's this game were horrendous. His explanations post game were even worse.
The decision to start Lindgren was idiotic. Of all the back-to-backs they play, this was the one they should of rolled with Price on both. He was coming off a shutout + 2 game win streak, and they have 10 days off coming up for him to recuperate! Every point matters right now for the Habs, and every time I see Julien throwing Lindgren in net, I feel like he's saying "well, this game doesn't matter as much as the rest"... pathetic
Second was benching Domi for as long as he did, specifically removing him from the PP when they needed it most at the end of the 2nd down 3-1.... Not only that, instead using his brain on this one. he puts Weal, Cousins, and Lehkonen on his 1st PP unit...is this a joke?! After the game Julien gets asked why remove Domi from the PP when he had already been benched for awhile, the guy only responds "I don't need to justify anything to you guys", gets asked the same question, responds "Look Domi isn't the guy who is going to score goals for us all the time."............................ you've got to be F- **ng kidding me!!! and Weal, Cousins, and Lehkonen are going to be those guys who score goals Claude!!?!?! you got Danault, Tatar, Suzuki, Kotkaniemi ALL better options waiting on the bench, if you want to prove a point to Domi, fine, use you best players in his stead, don't facking punish the team with your useless nonsense.
This was a garbage game from MTL, but the coach had a far worse performance tonight than any player did.
Yeah I think he knows it too. Julien is most likely going to be the first scapegoat.
But I'm going to be the first to say, I actually don't want Gallant as coach. Aside from the obvious, he doesn't speak french, I don't think Gallant would be much different overall mentality wise than Julien. I personally would like to see a younger more modern thinking guy like Joel Bouchard. Someone forward thinking and creative with new ideas that isn't just a copy paste from every bygone era that has passed. Not just the same old same old. Julien, Vignault, Therrien, rinse and repeat...... I don't think that is the avenue Habs should be going down again.
We need some fresh blood in the French speaking coaching world.
