Description
Yea, I know Dermot and Hyman are on LTIR to start the season but doing this more for cap reasons. Still not sure the path Marner wants to take for term. But very the comparable Aho best offer was 8.45m X 5. No reason Marner should get more than 9m on a short term deal. Though any logic on UFA/RFA signings really can't be analyzed

As usual, bang on. It looks like the Dubas plan is working. I wonder if he uses Hyman's temporary cap relief for another move . . .

Thanks Bud. Dubas earned his salary in the past two weeks. Yea Marleau was a little pricey to get rid of...but what can you do. Even though I like Zaitsev getting rid of his long term deal....great. And Leafs get back a competent Dman in Ceci. Then Leafs traded Brown for Harpur and and third.....that's good too,.
And that Colorado trade. Gee Kerfoot and Kadri are equal in value and term. So the Leafs got one year of a retained Barrie for Rosen and a third...alright.
Yea the Leafs might be not be better than last year, but they may not be much worse and considering what the cap problems were two weeks ago....couldn't be better.
Plus the Leafs signed some cost efficient veteran NHLer creating some competition at the bottom end roles. Even if these guys are waived, cleared and demoted, doesn't affect the cap.
The added bonus was the Aho contract offer. Last two years you could say Aho and Marner were identical. So it's going to be difficult for any team to offer sheet Marner at 10.6,,,,2m more than Aho. And suddenly Marner (and Point and Rantanen( might have less leverage.

Right on all points, particularly the Aho offer sheet and its effects. Does this lock Carolina into merely matching these terms, or can they offer him say $9M for 6 years?

As for additional signings, Joe Morrow is still out there, but he's a lefty . . . no right-handed free agents still on the market appeal to me.

No, the contract and all its term are a lock...for either Montreal or Carolina. Gee there are some guys who might have expected big money/term and now there just might not be the teams able to sign them. I'm thinking Gardiner, Dzinkel, Ferland, Johansson. And now the good class RFAs....Marner, Point, Ranatanen, Tzachuk, Laine, Connor, McAvoy.
