Leafs lose the best 2 players in the trade. Why would they make this trade?

Murphy > Kapanen

Leafs are gearing up for another first round exit and Nylander has proven a liability in the series. Saad is a proven playoff type player and Murphy stabilizes the defense.

Leafs also get two NHL caliber players for their depth scoring.

Ive seen most of the Boston vs Toronto series and Toronto's defence hasn't looked bad. They potentially lose Hainsey and Gardiner, but Murphy probably isn't the right guy to replace those two. I guess you could make the argument that Murphy is a younger version of Hainsey.. doesn't skate the best, reliable in their own end but provides very little offence. Babcock loves Hainsey, he is probably staying in Toronto on a 1 year deal.

I dont see the leafs moving both guys in the same trade, If they are trading both guys chances are they are in separate moves.

Murphy is actually bad. He wouldn't improve the Leafs defense. Also, you can't compare forwards to defensemen, but for the sake of this, Kapanen holds more value than Murphy and there's no way you can debate that

Perlini and Sikura wouldn't get any ice time on the Leafs, the last thing they need is forward depth, they have plenty of those players on the Marlies.

Nylander hasn't been a liability at all. It's not his fault he's playing with 2 offensive black holes.

Reading “Murphy is actually bad” is all I needed to invalidate your opinion.

A top 4 RHD is worth more than a third line forward go ahead and change my mind.
