Description
It's a bit of a roll of the dice giving up Kapanen for Fox but just trying to find a way to lose enough salary while improving the D (or at least the pipeline of D prospects).

I feel we might need to add to that Edmonton trade but I guess it depends on how low they value Pulujarvi and how high they regard Brown.

I pinched Johnsson's contract to fit under $83m but maybe there's 200k you can take off of Marner on a 1-3 year deal and give to AJ

I think the leafs need to add either 2 1sts or a 1st and 2nd to that edm trade.

I think it's fair to say that Connor Brown is worth a late 2nd or 3rd round pick. Seems to be the consensus around here, so let's roll with that.

Nic Baptiste is essentially just a body moving in this trade. No real value, so let's say he's a 7th rounder or something along those lines.

Bear is on an ELC, is 21 years old, and looks to be one of the top D prospects in the Oilers system. He was ranked 6th amongst Oilers prospects pre-season.

Puljujarvi is 20 years old. He was the 4th overall pick in 2016.

Looking at that, would you accept a 3rd round pick+7th round pick for your 6th best prospect and a 20 year old former 4th overall pick that hasn't really hit his stride yet? Granted, Edmonton's prospect pool isn't as high profile as the Leafs, but still, for the sake of this argument, how about Durzi+Bracco (not a first round pick, but similar-ish AHL numbers to Puljujarvi) for Edmonton's 3rd+7th?

Didn't think so.

Appreciate the comments. Again, in the trade and my description I note that leafs need to add just wasn’t sure to what extent. Id just as soon leave pulujarvi and Baptiste out all together...but 4th overall status doesn’t mean much at this point for a guy that hasn’t produced at the pro level, is coming off double hip surgery and is asking to get traded.

As for Bear...would i give up my 6th best prospect for a guy on a cheap contract I intend on plugging into my top 6? Yes. Every day. I’m ok if there needs to be some draft pick balancing but if it’s to the tune of 1st round picks that’s overboard

I would rather flip kapanen to Carolina for Fox, tbh and just trade brown for a 2nd or 3rd

Or if we flip the second you give us to get his rights and the overall result is the same...sure
