What Are Kings Needs

A rebuild.

Aside from the guys with clauses, I think the only untouchable is Kempe. Blake also might be reluctant to trade any of the young defensemen before finding out how good they are, plus one guy who doesn't show up on your roster -- Matt Luff. We have two guys who both might turn into NHL goalies, like Martin Jones -- Jack Campbell and Cal Petersen -- but I don't think you're in the market for one of them.

Oops -- I left out Rasmus Kupari and Jared Anderson-Dolan from the untouchable list.

As a Kings fan we need some more talent and speed. Plain and Simple. The talent will eventually come with guys like Gabe Vilardi, Akil Thomas, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Rasmus Kupari and Carl Grundstrom. Defensively our prospects don't really look like they'll project to be anything greater than second pair d-men at best. Kale Clague and Mikey Anderson have the best potential for us, with guys like Daniel Brickley, Oscar Fantenberg and Sean Walker looking like alright 3rd pair options.

From the Caps I would love if the Kings could acquire Siegenthaler and/or Burakovsky from the Caps. And from our team I'm ready to give up everyone not named Doughty, Peterson, Brown, Iaffalo, Kopitar and Kempe up. Literally everyone else is for sale I could see Alec Martinez and/or Tyler Toffoli being good fits for Washington. While Campbell could be someone they also go after just cuz he's a much better backup than Phoenix Copley.

This really. And time. The Kings sacrificed a lot of assets to take their two cups and compete with the Blackhawks. There's no shame in where they are today, it's just the other side of the coin.

Right now the Kings are an old, slow team. Moving any assets they can of value (Quick, Toffoli, Martinez) sooner than later does this team wonders. They need to bide their time with bad deals, specifically Phaneuf's, maybe Carter's depending on how he goes next season. It's just a matter of bringing in younger pieces, be it picks or NCAA/CHL free agents. The Ontario Reign are a dumpster fire right now. Focus on fixing that with moves that can be made at the NHL level.

And pray for Gabe Vilardi. That's a huge loss to hockey if that young man isn't able to have an NHL career.
