<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wagsnags</b></div><div>Thank you for taking the time to post the team. I am a avid fan of the Sabres for the 50 years that they have been in existence (season ticket holder since 1989 I do not miss a game). That being said I am no expert in any aspect of the team or the game of hockey. My points are based on what I see and read...... here goes:

1. The biggest mistake that GMBots made last year was compounding the Berglund quitting by putting Casey in the #2C position. He was not ready physically or mentally. IMO mentally was the bigger issue and will be the albatross both Casey, management and fans will need to be patient waiting for him to develop that aspect of the game. New coach new system you can not put that on the KID again and allow him to fail. Casey NEEDS to be the #3C for the 19/20 season. Let others play that #2C position.... if you do what is right by the KID now the kid and the team will be rewarded handsomely;

2. If GMBots does not make any more deals I would see him keeping Hunwick on the team or in Rochester. Veteran presence is lacking;

3. If Risto is moved and to me that is a BIG if.... then GMBots will be need to get a top 6 forward in return..... it could be a LW though he is overloaded at the present time..... he would prefer a C or RW. I think Edmonton or Winnipeg are the best fits for a trading of Risto;

4. Olofsson should make the opening day roster unless there is an injury during camp. I actually think that GMBots will deal Girgensons or Larsson before the beginning of the season;

5. Sobotka will not be with the Sabres in 19/20. GMBots will either find a dance partner with other assets (Ottawa) to move him or he will be put on waivers and buried in Rochester. The only way Sobotka breaks camp on the roster is if Ralphie sees something that is salvageable;

6. Okposo can not be the teams #2RW if he is this will be a really long season. He is a 4th Line RW at this point and PP specialist;

7. I think Ralphie &amp; GMBots will be forced to play Johansson at #2C because they lack one on their roster. If not he will be your #2RW;

8. Pilut will be on this team when healthy;

9. I think GMBots will also find a home for Scandella if he needs to shed the salary;

10. McCabe is a solid Dman but no way will GMBots pay him $3.25 per year for 4 years. I think you will see his contract be 2 years for $2,000,000 a year. He has been injured the last 2 seasons and he has virtually no leverage on that left side. I would not be shocked to see him in the deal with Risto;</div></div>

Thanks so much for helping me learn about your team. You may think that you're not an expert on your own team but I must tell you that I have seen the same opinions offered by informed people on almost all of the points you listed. I was aware that Pilut is currently injured, which is why I didn't show him on this roster. I agree with you that Botterill's primary job this year will be to remove the dead wood and/or find replacements to step up to replace those players moving down in the lineup (i.e., Okposo, Sheary, etc.). My primary conclusion about the Sabres is that you have an excellent first line but with the exception of Johansson (wherever he plays), you have only third- and fourth-line forwards otherwise. In short, unless Botterill does something with Ristolainen, it is hard to see how you can develop a viable second line with the current team. Again, thanks for the discussion!!
