Thinking Ahead
-I don't think teams are going to be lining up to take Foegele's deal, but i also don't think you need to sacrifice Puljujarvi *and* trade out of the 2024 1st rounder to get him off your cap. At the very least, you can do next summer what Minnesota did to shed Dmitry Kulikov this summer, and get a team with space to just take him for nothing.
-Vegas, hilariously, is literally already over the cap for 2023-24 with their current contract situation. I would be very surprised if they traded McNabb ($2.875M) for Barrie ($4.5M) without more cap going out. I think the package is acceptable, sure, but logistically I can't see the Knights having the room to do this as of now.
-Minnesota runs away with this deal before you can change your mind. Foligno is a fine player, and I know you're looking for more sandpaper with these deals, but he's literally a 35-40 point guy. His offensive spike the past two seasons is built on the back of an insane 24.6% shooting percentage that is, obviously, due for some regression. Giving up a 1st by itself is a lot, and throwing in one of your better prospects is just overkill. The Wild thank you for your service.
-There are probably a dozen AHL-level guys like O'Brien that you can sign for free and keep the pick if you want a face-puncher. Cody McLeod, Rich Clune, and Zac Rinaldo are all guys with NHL experience you could get for nothing. Bad type of player to spend a pick on, IMO.

Who is getting traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>uphere</b></div><div>If and who are dependent on the trade market, and it favors buyers at the moment. Agreed. Would rather move Foegele, they have plenty of depth as far as left shot guys go & if they are supposedly a cup contending team for the next 3-5 yrs then mid rnd picks should be very much expendable for them if the exchange is cap space.

Finalizing the 2022 roster
Makes no sense for Edmonton to move the most experienced d on the roster for a forward truly have zero need for replacing the full cap hit so not even saving anything to help fill the hole created. I don't see any way this can make sense for Edmonton.

Finalizing the 2022 roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>The money and term is equivalent with Hoffman. Both players struggle to play defence. I think the trade is fair.</div></div>
Hoffman "struggles" in the sense that he simply doesn't; Barrie certainly has his deficiencies in the D-zone, but it's not like we're talking about Keith Yandle. The only reason for EDM to move Barrie right now is to cut cap so, if a deal doesn't achieve that, it's not a viable trade proposal.

one trade
Edmonton isn't paying to give away two good players for no reason. They don't need to clear $7.25M in cap to get compliant, so this is major overkill.

Yeah. The additional 1st definitely helps smooth the rough edges. CHI might consider this. But I think there will be more desirable offers on the table and I'm not sure Kaner would waive for EDM anyway.

Someone will pay more then that, I imagine the 2023 first is the starting point for any of these deals. Either way you gotta be looking at your D core not your forwards imo.

time to finesse cap space
I think either could work in a normal off season but there seems to be a hold up with these cap dump trades. Seems like the Isles, Avs plus other teams looking to get space and no one is moving right now. Is the price to high?

you can only have salary retention on 3 contracts at one time and AZI already have 1/3 used on OEL till 26-27 and they wouldn't use the last 2 remaining spots for edmonton

Crouse is a nice player with size, but the Oilers already have too many left shot wingers, if they were going to do this Holland shouldnt have signed Janmark and Holloway would be spending the majority of the season in the A because playing Crouse on the 4th line is a waste.

Start of season v2
I like Crouse, but i dont think Arizona would accept this, and i dont think Crouse would even be on the Oilers radar... They are pretty flush with left shot wingers- Kane, Nuge, Foegele, Janmark, Shore. Not to mention Drai, & McL who also move to the wing from time to time. Also down in the A- Holloway(who is arguably ready to be with the team full time), Malone(who will probably be called up because of injuries), Savoie, Petrov, Schaefer, Benson.
I think they really need to be concentrating on bringing in Right shot forwards AND Right shot defence. Even getting Janmark I think was a waste.

Oilers 2022-23 w Hoffman wo Barrie Foegele Puljujarvi
Puljujarvi for a mediocre pick is not something the oilers should be entertaining at all. I’m assuming it was a cap move, but moving JP for a pick just to move Ryan to the 3rd line is a major major downgrade. Worst case with Puljujarvi is he is a 30-45 pt 3rd liner. That at $3M is nothing crazy.
Hoffman for Foegele is tough. I used to be a fan of Hoffman and thought his shoot first mentality would be a cheap option for 97’s wing, but Kane has run away with that title. Problem with this swap is Foegele has the ability to be physical so can fit in in the bottom 6. If Hoffman doesn’t fit in the top 6, he is as good as useless IMO

But then why Bear. He is less proven and shown to be very similar in that his defensive capability is sometimes lacking.

Perfect Offseason with Kane
I think in the end Kane is not going to get that big of a deal. I think he gets $6mill x 4. Not alot of teams in the league are going to be eager to sign a guy with his track record to 7 yrs. Also, i would think most GM's are smart enough to realize his numbers were majorly inflate playing along side McDavid.
Also your 4th line is :grimace They need to improve the bottom 6 not essentially keep it the same, and actually moving Foegele made it worse.
If they end up keeping Barrie no way he can be paired with Broberg.

After The Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>uphere</b></div><div>I think Kuemper will cost more money and term.
While Minnesota, Detroit, and quite likely Chicago are no longer in the market for goaltenders, there are still a few teams on the hunt. With Fleury and Husso no longer available, Kuemper and Campbell are the last legitimate starters left among the UFAs. Dubas cleared cap space yesterday and he still has a few days to negotiate with Campbell before July 13 and the opening of free agency. I think $6M x 6 might be closer to reality, but I would not be surprised if it gets worse than that.</div></div>
Yeah I agree, I truly hope it doesn't get that bad, but jeez... A goalie with 57 NHL games gets $4.75M... That's crazy, inflation is high right now for goalies

If YOU think that 4 years of 25-year-old Oliver Kylington are worth $4.4 million, why would Calgary exchange him for 2 years of 33-year-old Jake Muzzin at $5.625 million? Do you not see the internal inconsistency there?

No, doesn’t need or want Dvorak especially at a hyper inflated rate. Just because MTL overpaid to get him doesn’t mean somebody else will.
