(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
How do all these parts fit on Vegas is my question. Is Hertl just playing LW the rest of the year? Karlsson is already playing 3C is he getting moved? Or they keep him and let Stephenson walk I guess. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess, like it or not they've put on a masterclass at the deadline every year they've existed. What's a trade they have lost? Tatar and that's it?
Worst part about the retention is that the Sharks now have all 3 spots taken until Burns' deal expires NEXT offseason. They're gonna be all time bad next year and won't be able to increase their return on rentals and for some teams they flat out won't be able to deal with because of the cap. But Hertl doesn't fit the rebuild timeline and his deal was likely made by the old regime to try to keep some of the fanbase interested in the team. Lots of very important draft selections coming up for the Sharks very soon...

(CBJ/BOS) - Peeke for Zboril, 2027 3rd (BOS)
Added 3rd sways this in the Jackets favor... picking him up for nothing even with his salary I was fine with, even after poor years I have faith in the Bruins coaching to turn him around. Does make the offseason more interesting though, wonder if the B's consider him a replacement so they can trade Carlo, who is more than fine but a concussion away from never playing again.

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>It would have been a 20 goal 55 point season with a normal shooting %, and that’s with poor defensive metrics and PP1 time. Wouldn’t pay him anything 5.5 million at all.
If Calgary flips him next deadline 50% retained for a 2nd, they’ll be eating about 7 million dollars for a 2nd round pick. That’s called a cap dump</div></div>
They're not eating 7 million dollars lmao they're not retaining on Lindholm and this year's money is basically net neutral. Calling getting back a guy in Kuzmenko, who will be a positive middle 6 impact on their team, a cap dump is about as accurate as calling Lindholm a cap dump. I'm not going to nit pick about 5 points, and not playing PK does not equal poor defensive metrics, he's worse this year but was above average defensively 5v5 last year probably evidenced by his 30 even strength assists. You've made about 15 comments swearing that Kuzmenko is a cap dump already, but whatever, I'm not going to change your mind. Bottom line is Vancouver paid a premium price in draft picks, prospects, and selling rock bottom low on a quality player for a center who played like a 3C for the last 2 years since Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk left.

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Will Kuzmenko bounce back? His metrics are identical to last years. The only difference is he’s not shooting 27% again. I don’t see him ever getting anything close to that ever again</div></div>
You keep bringing up the 27%, but he had a great season last year even without an inflated shooting percentage. Half his goals from last year and give him a normal shooting percentage of 13.5% and he still has 60 points and 30 even strength assists. This a good 27 year old player who has just run his course in whatever system he's in, he'll have positive trade value by next year's deadline if Calgary wants to flip him.

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Lindholm was the best available center on the trade market. But hes not an above average number 1 center. Hes a good 2nd line center.
I would call it a CGY win, as he was expiring and not re-signing, BUT they got a 1st, high midlevel prospect in Brzu (who if available would get a 2nd round pick in a second), a meh prospect in Joni and Kuzmenko.
Kuz isnt my type of player, and while probably making 1.5-2mil too much, hes a top 6/9 scorer, and still young (27, just 2 yrs in NA) and quality who is closer to a 50 pt guy in the top 6 than a 30 pt guy on the third line. Is he the 70 pt guy of last year or the 40 pt guy of this year, probably in the middle, and just not a fit on a team who seems to have its chemistry just right in 23-24. I think hes a 50 pt guy
Kuz, even with his contract and faults is probably worth a 2nd/3rd rounder in trade, (if he was cheaper NYR could use a top 6 RW), so to me its a 1st, 2 2nds/a 3rd and a bit more for a good 2nd line center</div></div>
Good 2C is generous to Lindholm. The guy fell apart after Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk left he can't drive a line. Guy is in the Pavel Zacha/Coyle/Kyrou/Danault/either Strome brother tier of centers. I have no idea why teams are valuing him from 2 years ago when both his wings were top 5 positionally in the league.

I don't understand this trade for the Canucks. You're trading for an expiring Lindholm who has played like a 3C for 2 years now... this would be a fair price during last year's deadline where you could plausibly say that he's just having a little bit of a down year and he has an extra year of control but this price is bananas. If they extend him (and they kinda have to for this price) it's going to be one of the worst deals in the league.
Also idc how Kuzmenko has played this year or how his coach hates him apparently, he shouldn't be a negative asset. The guy had 74 points last year! That's with him shooting 27%, take away half his goals and that's still 65 point pace. He's going to end up being like Granlund in the Karlsson trade, rebuilding his trade value in a better system. I bet he could be flipped for a 2nd by next year's deadline. Then you add a 4th and 2 prospects and least 1 of them who has real value on top of that just for the hell of it. Absolutely brain dead move for Vancouver

(CGY/NJD) - Toffoli for Sharangovich, 2023 3rd (CGY)
You're better off trading him at the deadline with that return... just retain half and get a 1st at the deadline... what's next Hanifin for a 2nd??
Huge W for the Devils even if Toffoli is a strict rental... trading a playoff healthy scratch and a pick they got just for being able to sign a guy to an 8 year contract.

(BOS/WSH) - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Smith for Hathaway, Orlov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>If you think defense is more useful to the leafs you clearly know nothing about them lol. A top 6 forward was their biggest need.</div></div>
Prior to the ROR acquisition the Leafs top 5 of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares and Bunting make a combined 41 million, and that's with Bunting making less than a million. The Bruins top 6 is being paid less than 24 million combined. So adding another 7.5 million player to the top 6 surely will solve all their problems right?? Definitely don't look at the fact that the Leafs are dressing kids under 25 and someone who should be a healthy scratch in Holl in their bottom 4, definitely don't address that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Bruins got the more useful players lol. I guarentee if Toronto had Orlov and Boston ROR you'd be saying it the other way around.</div></div>
I mean the Bruins just found their partner for McAvoy in the playoffs when they can't consistently play 5'9 Gryz and ROR just moves Tavares to LW... Not sure how you can say that ROR is the more useful player in terms of team situation and building. The Top 6 wasn't an issue for Toronto, ROR may be the bigger name, but even Orlov would be more impactful on the Leafs when they're still rolling Holl, Timmons and some combo of Sandin/Liljegren with a combined 7 games playoff experience.

Bruins sent out an underwater 3.1 million contract unretained and Orlov would play on the first pair in Toronto. Bruins got the more useful players and paid less, as their picks will be worse and gave up a 5th not a 4th for retention.
