Cup Favourites
Could you show some modesty please.
TML haven't won a round in 17 years, just choked 5 years in a row and the "goal scorer of a generation" you identify with had 1 goal in 7 games.
TML and "contender/cup favorites" dont go in the same sentence until they show proofs of beeing able to win ONE elimination game.
Simmer down, thank you and have a great day.

Vegas Golden Knights signed Alex Pietrangelo (7 Years / $8,800,000 AAV)
Team has no choice but to shed cap now. More than Just MAF. Which is going to cost an arm and a leg.
My guess is Reaves to TOR.

Playoffs - Can it beat the Jackets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>I think that there are a few things that will give the Leafs the edge in this series.
1. It won't be typical playoff hockey, the refs aren't going to let the things go that are normally allowed come playoffs due to everyone coming back after a long break.
2. While both teams will be healthy the Leafs d-corp will be back at full health which it was really only there during their December in which they had a great run.
3. It's easier to come out guns blazing after a long break than get back to stingy defense. Teams score more goals early in the season.
4. Game breakers and an experienced goalie. The Blue Jackets are a good team with good players (I recognize Jones and Werenski are more then good but...) The leafs have more guys that are able to take over a game and in a short series that could essential.
But of course this is all speculation</div></div>
All valid points here. Well said.
There really isn't any point in pulling it all apart at this time anyways.
Like I said... That is why they play the games. We will find out in time what they are made of.

I think this is realistic Dont know please tell me
I think this is pretty darn good for an early effort. Yeah, you're low on all of the UFA's but you've gone after the right players and the resulting team is a definite improvement on the current squad, which was a playoff contender and an offensive moose. And contrary to the earlier comment, the Ducks would be seriously interested in that return for taking on Eriksson, as he is owed only $5 million after payment of his bonus on July 1st and that dovetails nicely with Anaheim's internal salary cap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>True but even then with those names you mentioned Detroit isn't a contender. But I take your point. What do you think of the new contracts?</div></div>
Much better more realistic? I know Detroit's not a contender Even by a miracle we could get those players which all would be major pipe dreams. Doubt we get the #1 pick Krug stays in Boston. Doubt Hall or Hoffman have any interest in Detroit. Holtby might come to Detroit especially seeing that he has a great rapport with Yzerman doubt Markstrom or Lehner would possibly either to Carolina. Just saying that with the right personal anything is possible.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>With the cap not moving up a lot of guys aren't going to get as much money as might seem fair. They will either have to go to a non-contending team for more money or accept less money from a contending team. I've seen a lot of Demelo contracts at that money, I agree I don't know if Hoffman could come that cheap please give me a more fair value.
And would the trade work with a second instead of a third, or would I have to accept draft pick back instead of Heinen?</div></div>
Teams like Carolina have the cap space to sign ufas like Hoffman markstrom. Demelo is probably staying in Winnipeg.
If your trading a first to get rid of Erikssons contract, all your getting is a 6th back. The leafs paid a first to Carolina to takes marleaus contract for 1 year

Byfuglien unrealistic but itd be cool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>Robertson needs more development time.
I honestly think that the Byfuglien contract could be around that money. I don't think he's interested in money as much anymore or he would have been willing to play out the contract he had with Winnipeg, he's also been injured for the season which will detract from the offers he gets. At the end of the day I think that he wants to win a cup and will accept a deal that might get him that and other than that bottom d-pair which looked bad this year this team might be able to do it.</div></div>
I doubt Byfuglien is chasing a cup, he already won one with Chicago in 2010, and adding one more to his resume isn't going to push him into the Hall.. He probably wants to get healthy and play where makes him happy, granted, winning is a good way to make any competitor happy.

We have no cap space More Leafs fan stupid to rip apart right here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HattrickKane88</b></div><div>He’s the most vastly overpaid player in the game. Honestly, he’s just not built for the NHL. He’s small, weak & soft. He always gets knocked over & refuses to hit & fight. He doesn’t have the talent to make up for his poor physique. In a few seasons he’ll be out of the league. He gets carried by Auston Matthews & is only good at generating secondary assists, which is a worthless stat. The Leafs were better off giving that roster spot to Jeremy Bracco or Nick Robertson, could’ve saved them 11 million too.</div></div>
Patty Kane is a small guy who racks up assists and has played with great players like toews and panarin, does that make him bad? Absolutely not. 94 point 22 year olds don't grow on trees. Its not a coincidence that every single player he plays with puts up career numbers (or close to it), especially in goals, every single year. For when u say that's not true:
Rookie Year:
Bozak: 55 pts. High: 49 pts
JVR: 29g/62pts. High: came w Marner the next year but we'll get there
Sophomore:
JVR:36g/54 pts
Kadri: 32g (tied for career high), 55 pts (2nd highest. also missed 2 games)
Y3:
Hyman: 21g (tied with again Marner next year), 41 pts (career high)
Tavares: 47g (>prev. high by 10g), 88pts (career high)
Y4:
Hyman 21g (tied from last year w Marner, highest g/pg by a lot), 37pts (highest p/pg by a lot)
Matthews: 47g(career high and on pace for many more), 80pts (high and on pace for many more)
has played with some pretty good lines, and some pretty average lines, but clear that he drives play and makes his teammates much better.
Marner himself:
61 pts
69pts
94pts
67pts (on pace for 93 in an 82 game season)
Defensive game has also been improving. Now a valuable penalty killer.

offer sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>I don't understand why people think Barzal is worth that much cap space. At that money his cap comparables would be Artemi Panarin, Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Patrick Kane, and Mitch Marner, and he's not even a Point per Game player this and is putting up points at the pace of David Perron, Ryan Strome, and Willie Nylander, all of whom are making about half of that contract. Sure he's young and will probably grow into that contract but that's not for certain and if he doesn't your going to be looking at that in five years and cursing the useless cap space. But if he does continue to grow that would be his number but he's not there yet.</div></div>
Why are you comparing $M9.6 to guys who have $M11+ ?

Now, I know you mentioned extension, but it usually doesn't happen that way where an extension is agreed to as part of a mid-season trade, especially in the case of Taylor Hall looking for a bounce back year after an injury filled 2018-19.</div></div>
Mark Stone last year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpatrick</b></div><div>New Jersey would say no unless they knew for sure that Hall wasn't staying in New Jersey.
Hall seems to like New Jersey.. They are a much better team and I don't see him leaving.
Therefore I don't think New Jersey makes that deal.
Though with Shane Bowers in the mix and a first it is slightly possible. I still however do not see either side really wanting to get this deal done.</div></div>
NJD would pass because the players don’t fit what the needs. Devils have centers: Hischier, Hughes, Zacha, Coleman, Hayden, McLeod. They need an NHL ready enforcer on back line, and scoring RW prospect.

Who Says No
Even if these players were exactly equal, which they are not (and which I will touch on in a second), chemistry needs to count for something. The dynamic Tavares and Marner established last season far outweighs any possible benefit of getting an equal player in return for Mitch Marner, unless it significantly helped the team in another area, which is does not. Now, Marner and Kane may have similar styles, but I would first argue age is a huge concern, and with that comes control. 4 more years of a 30 year old Patrick Kane at $10.5 million AAV minus the $2.5 million retained still does not equal a 22-year old Mitch Marner. Even if, as a worst case scenario, Marner didn't sign this season, this deal would still not be worth it for Toronto.

Legit, a fairly elite Top-6, Kappy and Kadri on the 3rd line is pretty solid. Rielly is a legit No. 1- No. 2 and Muzzin, Dermott and Miller would be a pretty solid supporting cast. Andersen is an above avg. Goalie. They got the right pieces in place. I think this line-up is better than last year's line-up we took to the playoffs!

Matthews is a top 10 player in the league. arguably the second best goal scorer in the league. Not. Even. Close.
