Now that's a team that has an actual shot at doing something! You could also reverse the Duchene trade to get Turris, Bown and Bowers, but I did like Duchene, just not for the rebuild.

Problem is you are probably not on the board to draft Tkachuk and Chabot if those trade weren't made.

This is me being optimistic because as a sens fan, I am dead on the inside:

I don't hate the Condon trade. Yes, it's embarrassing always trading to save money but I would prefer Callahan on the LTIR for a year than have Condon make 2.4mil either in the press box or stealing ice time from our young goalies. For people saying we could've gotten a first like Carolina for Patrick Marleau, that's not true. You can't put Marleau on LTIR (or Condon for that matter). Callahan has no affect on the cap.

The Stone trade hurt. A lot. But at least we got an A level elite prospect out of it instead of losing him for nothing (Tavares).

I feel like we could have gotten more for Duchene considering what rentals have gone for in the past. We basically got the same return for him as we did for Brassard last year. The conditional 1st if he re-signed would've been nice to have but I'm happy he's in Nashville. Lassi Thomson looked really good in Dev camp.

The Karlsson trade wasn't a complete failure considering he only had 1 year left. Yes, it would have been nice if the conditional pick was a 1st instead of a 2nd if he re-signed. Yes, it would have been nice to get one great asset (Meier) instead of plenty good assets. But Tierney and DeMelo have fit in greatly, and we now have Balcers, Norris, a 1st, and a 2nd added to the prospect pool which is amazing! I like the trade.

Hoffman for Boedker was just brutal. There is no other way to put it. I know Dorion had his hands tied with this but c'mon man how did you not get anything more for Hoffman. He is a 30+ goal scorer and 70+ point scorer and we got the cap dump of Mikkel Boedker who was a healthy scratch by the end of the season, and won't even make the opening night this season. And we gave up a pick on top of that.... I'm not even going to mention the trade from San Jose to Florida.

Okay Zibanejad is a legitimate #1 centre in the league now yes. But Brassard helped us get to the ECF and at the same was better than Zbad. He wasn't a bust until after we traded him and we still got a 1st (Jacob Bernard-Docker) and Filip Gustavsson for the return. It would be nice to have Zibanejad right now for sure but there is a bright side to this deal. It was stupid how we gave up a 2nd so NYR would pay Zbad's signing bonus though.

The Bobby Ryan trade wasn't awful. He was coming off 4 straight 30 goal seasons to be fair. It is Ryan's contract that was signed a year after this trade that made it look bad. Silverberg is a solid middle 6 winger (so is Ryan now), but besides that, they didn't really get anything special out of this deal. Ritchie hasn't amounted to much and Noesen is not with them anymore. We needed to replace Alfie and man was that MaCarthur - Turris - Ryan line good his first year.

The Condon trade was small potatoes, but it was a complete slam dunk for Ottawa.

The only trade that was made before Chabot's draft was the Ryan trade. Chabot was 18th overall so we likely still would've been around that area and even if we weren't, every team got a stud in the first round of that draft unless you are Boston.

        Debrusk is pretty darn good.
Not everyone got a stud in rd 1. Not even close.
If this was the Sens team you would not had the 4th overall pick.

Around that area could easily change your pick to Eriksson EK or Juulsen.

I was obviously using hyperbole don't take it literally. I was saying the 2015 draft is one of the strongest drafts of all time so the odds of getting a good player out of it in the first round is pretty high. And then I was making a joke saying except Boston because they picked 2 guys who have barely played in the NHL when the next 3 guys picked were Barzal, Connor, and Chabot. And I wasn't talking about Tkachuk, I was talking about Chabot.
