Getting some depth for the playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>Obviously the trade would have to happen after he was healthy and would depend on remaining games. It counts for next season as well.
Fact is he's missed substantial time in 3 consecutive seasons. If that trend continues, it makes a difference in his value.</div></div>
Trade deadline is 26 days away. Will he be able to play by then? wrap him in some bubble tape.

You keep bringing up "why would any team give up anything" why would the bruins just give him away? theyre going to use him to get another piece for a playoff run or keep him as that piece if they cant get anything of value. hes still a decent goal scorer. hes playing 3rd line minutes and is 6th in goals on the team with 9. and has no pp time. Honestly i think Debrusk has done pretty decent this year, he doesnt have the assist totals but first 20ish games he played with haula and foligno who have a combined 6 goals now.</div></div>
why does the QO matter? Does that question even really deserve an answer.
But sure thing there, go ask Heinen why a QO matters.

Getting some depth for the playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>Zucker and a conditional 2nd next year for Drouin.
If Drouin is not available for at least 80% of the games or Zucker is not on Montreal's post TDL roster in 22/23, no pick is transferred.
Zucker is just a warm body for Montreal. If they can't raise his value and trade him for more than a 2nd at the deadline next year, they keep him and get a 2nd.
If they do trade Zucker (maybe he has a good year and they get a 2nd/3rd plus a prospect with retention), then Pittsburgh doesn't owe them a pick.
If Drouin can't stay healthy, Pittsburgh doesn't owe a pick.
So as long as the trade works out for both teams, it's considered an even swap. No reason for Montreal to consider it otherwise.</div></div>
I mean if those are the terms, why even bother attaching the pick, he's not going to reach them.
Hell would he even be available to help the pens in the playoffs....I'm guessing no. At which point, why bother with any of this.

That's why agents make contacts that pay out high at the end of the contract so it's pay or they walk.

and they definitely can sign for less than the qo aav wise if they want to because a qo is not a concrete contractual obligation. If you have an inflated qo relative to your actual value like debrusk signing for slightly less money for more term isint completely out of the question because it fronts you job security and pay security intead of taking the inflated qo on a 1 year deal and risking not getting paid as much past that. I dont really keep track of players' qualifying offers because i dont really care but its not completely insane what im saying here. Im not suggesting he signs for 2.7x3 but taking a bit less than is qo aav for longer is not out of the question</div></div>
highly doubt BOS QO him. Two years bad numbers, not equal to his QO.
Like I said, go ahead, list the players who signed less than their QO.
You didn't name one, I wonder why that is?

and because they can do the same thing even if they make a move for him, if he signs a qo its a 1 year deal and if he sucks again hes just tanked his market value, or he can sign for less money than his qo for longer term and have income security. its not uncommon</div></div>
did you read?
A, no guys are taking less than their QO. Go head start listing them if you think I'm wrong.
B. why would you pay him almost 5M on a QO? why? what reason does VAN have to do that. When they can just wait, watch him walk out of boston and sign him for less.
It's not like anyone is starting a bidding war on him pushing that UFA price to 5M. That isn't happening.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruins1054_gmb</b></div><div>Subjective. But the Pens are paying 5 D-men Top-4 money, and Pettersson is the worst one.</div></div>
just because you are paying 5 Dmen top 4 money doesn't mean you don't have 5 top 4 Dman.
MP is solid defenseman. Saying he's the "worst one" when the rest of the list is Letang, Marino, Dumo, Matthesson who's going gang busters, is no really saying much.
Zucker is the worst contract because he's always hurt and he could do better but he's not.
Other than that, they are still carrying Jack Johnson dead weight cap money. How the F he's still playing for COL I have no idea.

Honestly, a good two way selfish player is exactly what I would put on Malkin's wing.
He needs someone willing to just riffle the puck.
The problem people have playing with him is they start playing catch with him. Pens fans screaming...shoot the puck.
That's why Kessel worked so well for 2 years. Kessel was like F it, I'll shoot the puck.
Malkin knows he has to be more selfish but he's always looking for people who can help when teams clamp down on him.

it's almost 5mil, and why would he take a discount?
Pay him or he becomes a FA, that's how that works.
No one is going to get in that mess. If VAN wants him, they just wait till the off season and offer him a deal far less than the QO.

no one is trading for him, least of all a non playoff team. Not unless it's to clear cap space and they get something back.
