Blues aren't retaining on an 8 year contract. That stated a lot of Blues fans overvalue him for some reason. Joki would likely have to be in the trade. However, there won't be a first and 3rd involved.
Not to mention the giant elephant which is his full NTC and I don't see him approving a move to Buffalo

Ouf. That'd be a pretty big discount considering what they paid for him. Not saying it'd be a Meier-type return, but I can't see it being that much less than they gave up 6 months ago. Still getting him for 2 playoff runs.

Or maybe this is all bogus. One look at the d group with gavrikov and it really doesnt’ make any sense.

Also, if EDM waives Puljujarvi it would give them some relief.</div></div>
Edmonton wants value for Puljujarvi, and teams probably want Boston to pay to take on Smith's cap.

1-Barbashev extended would take Lysell's spot.
2-They need more value since they are dumping Reilly but they don't have a second rounder</div></div>
I'd assumed the 3rd was the more value for dumping him.
Unfortunately Barbashev just isn't the type of player you move a 1st and your top prospect for. Seems most teams wont move their top prospects at all. (NYI seems to be an exception seeing Horvat as a long term fit). I'd say Bostons first is rational for Barbashev, given their lack of 2nds.

No thanks. I’d rather have Lauko than Kuraly especially with their cap hits. Was pretty sick of watching Kuraly play 1 on 5 and never passing. He served his purpose they moved on, rightfully so.

It’s funny & scary to see Larkin on the 3rd line.
I personally like the trade, I’d try and squeeze another player out of the deal but I’d be perfectly fine with it for the Wings.
I’d bet Larkin remains with the Wings though and is extended over 8 years at $9.15m.

Don't see how they could sign both Larkin and Pasta in the summer without also giving up a big package to move off of Coyle and Forbort. Even if it was just as a rental though would 1000% be worth it for Boston though

There's a reason Lou traded for him in January and not March.
If the Islanders don't turn it around, and there's no shot at extending him, you can expect to see him on the block again.

Yes, but you still have the rights to him as a RFA. So they can trade him to Buffalo who has the money to match the QO if they can't agree on an extension at a lower AAV. Regardless, this is an awful return even if he went straight to UFA. Boston just doesn't have the assets to make it work so they're not even in the conversation

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pbesner30</b></div><div>Just think. Who would it be more useful to retain on (think of the possible return for each player)? Debrincat (40 goal scorer), Talbot (35 yrs old washed goalie) or Hamonic (spoiler he ain't getting traded).</div></div>
yeah I mean ultimately
I want to see DeBrincat stick around. but if the deadline comes around and it seems clear that he's just gonna take his QO and walk the year after, then you've gotta trade him at the deadline while he's an RFA, retention makes him cost a measly 3.2, and teams are more desperate. In that scenario, a strong, young, RD, like the Sens have desperately needed, a 1st round pick, and a young forward that you can try out in the lineup and then handle in the summer is pretty much as good of an offer as the Sens can ask for.

Talbot, sure. might be able to get a 2nd from a team for that. But the value of a retention slot is better spent in a bigger trade with a bigger return than a travis hamonic trade. it'd MAYBE be the difference of like, a 4th to a 3rd, at the very most

so? who are we gonna retain on? Motte? Holden? Gambrell? retention would hardly make a difference with any of our pending UFAs

I'm not a fan of Puljujarvi's 3M QO but honestly the Sens can just not qualify him and then let him walk if he doesn't want to take less

I think that's a bit much for Bonino and I would rather go for someone like Bjugstad who could either be 3rd or 4th line.
