I'm not in favour of the Sens trading DeBrincat but if they can get Bouchard+, they'd really just have to take the shot imo

Ottawa accepts if you take out Puljujarvi and eliminate the retention on DeBrincat.

Edmonton offered Puljujarvi and a pick to Ottawa when we were trying to trade Connor Brown.

We declined and traded Brown to Washington instead.

So, we decline this trade involving Puljujarvi as well.

there's no real reason for the Sens not to be willing to retain on DeBrincat

Plus if you take out Puljujarvi and the retention on Debrincat, Edmonton will be about 3 millions over the cap.

Also, saying Puljujarvi is the dealbreaker would be delusionnal when the others players involved are Debrincat and Bouchard.

If we become sellers at the deadline, we would have only 1 salary retention slot instead of 2.

Given that we are currently retaining on Matt Murray as well.

Ok and who do you want to retain on after Debrincat?

I'm not a fan of Puljujarvi's 3M QO but honestly the Sens can just not qualify him and then let him walk if he doesn't want to take less

so? who are we gonna retain on? Motte? Holden? Gambrell? retention would hardly make a difference with any of our pending UFAs

He is only in the deal to make the cap work. He COULD be a useful piece for the Sens, but the main pieces are Bouchard and the 1st.

Talbot + Hamonic + Matt Murray.

There's the 3 for this season.

Just think. Who would it be more useful to retain on (think of the possible return for each player)? Debrincat (40 goal scorer), Talbot (35 yrs old washed goalie) or Hamonic (spoiler he ain't getting traded).

Talbot, sure. might be able to get a 2nd from a team for that. But the value of a retention slot is better spent in a bigger trade with a bigger return than a travis hamonic trade. it'd MAYBE be the difference of like, a 4th to a 3rd, at the very most

yeah I mean ultimately
I want to see DeBrincat stick around. but if the deadline comes around and it seems clear that he's just gonna take his QO and walk the year after, then you've gotta trade him at the deadline while he's an RFA, retention makes him cost a measly 3.2, and teams are more desperate. In that scenario, a strong, young, RD, like the Sens have desperately needed, a 1st round pick, and a young forward that you can try out in the lineup and then handle in the summer is pretty much as good of an offer as the Sens can ask for.

I'd rather just keep DeBrincat and sign him long term.

And find somebody that is better at coaching him than Mike Babcock disciple DJ Smith.

And how would you know Hamonic is not getting traded?

He's a pending UFA on a team that is missing the playoffs.

I mean this is all in the scenario that DeBrincat doesn't want to sign long-term for 9 or less.

Good luck signing Debrincat long term.

Who wants Hamonic? I haven't heard anything on him since the begining of the season.

I'll compromise and accept either Puljujarvi or the retention on DeBrincat.

But not both.

DeBrincat at 3.2 million is an absolute steal.
