<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>Sorry but you have to pay to get rid of that contract, Montreal has guys like Newhook putting up better numbers at half the price so even if the retention was 50% it wouldn't happen. Montreal is trying to build a culture as well as a team that can compete, bringing in PLD is the last thing they'd do.</div></div>
I'll disagree with that I think Martin St. Louis can fix him.

DRAFT IGINLA WITH TRADE UP FOR EISERMAN PLUS TSYPLAKOV SIGNING AND DUBOIS TRADE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>We aren't pumped on him, it's clear they aren't buying him out and Blake can't take a loss on the contract as his job hinges on it. The Kings can't afford to retain $2M a year for 7 years AND take on bad contracts while Kopitar still is on this team. This is just being realistic, if Blake made the above trade at even $1M retained, he would be fired immediately.
I watched every game PLD played in, I'm not that surprised he didn't thrive. He was placed in a defensive system, given probably the worst linemates of his career, and tried too much to play like Kopitar and Danault, which he is not like. His most common linemate was Laffy, who up until last season had played 4 AHL games and no NHL experience. He went through a gauntlet of NHL tweeners like Kaliyev and JAD. His line with FIala could score, but was defensively vulnerable, when he had Lewis and Laffy he was defensively sound but those two couldn't score. It was only when Kopitar or Danault sat, that it was clear that PLD could easily take over a top-6 role, they just didn't have the players to play with him as he wasn't defensively as strong as Danaut and Kopitar. The long-term injury to Arvidsson pushed Fiala up to Danault's line, and basically, PLD hit rock bottom until mid-season. After the coaching change PLD started to hit his stride, he still had weak linemates but played more of his game.
It's not that LA is super excited for PLD, it's that they feel more confident they can salvage a 25 year old who has shown he can bounce back, than throw in the towel and retain as well as take on bad contracts. If next season PLD is still a 45 point winger, Blake will already be fired and the Kings will be on the hook for one of the worst contracts in the league. But the likelihood is, he is paired with Byfield (who he has statistically thrived with) and he becomes a 60-70 point player. PLD has done this before, look at his first season with Winnipeg, he's been bad, but he was not the primary reason LA fired their coach, he was not why LA lost in the playoffs.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Sound good, LA is committed to making it work. Hope Anderson and Dvorak work out for y'all.</div></div>
Why are Kings fans so pumped about Dubois? HIs NMC window kicks in this off-season. What are you expecting for a trade return for Dubois (assume Kings retain 2mill/year)? Considering that Kings have little leverage in a trade for a player like Dubois who's signed for 7 more years and played 14 mins a night on the 3rd line in the playoffs.

Yeah probably. Maple Leafs don't have much leverage in a Marner trade considering they're giving Marner the boot. Plus, the Leafs have cap trouble to make Marner's contract work next season and other teams know this. Don't see the Leafs getting too much in a Marner trade

Maple Leafs don't have much leverage in a Marner trade considering they're giving Marner the boot. Solid goalie and a top-six forward is a fine return. Plus, the Leafs have impossible Cap gymnastics to make Marner's contract work next season.

Seems to be a high-floor player with a very solid ceiling. IMO, he can definitely be a 40-goal, 85 pt guy, and likely becomes at minimum 60 pt, solid 2nd-line guy. What I love about him is his play driving and he is multi-dimensional as well.</div></div>

Likely we would draft a LW, and the future lineup would look like this:
2024 1st - Suzuki - Slaf
Caufield - Dach -Roy/Newhook
If we were to do that trade though, I think Dach (Maybe Newhook) would be the center. I don't see Z as a center</div></div>

Keep the assets, sign Zegras when he becomes a UFA or when he eventually goes the PLD route and is trade for cheap at 50% retained.
We are 3-4 years out before competing (aka times it takes for guys like Slaf, Hutson, Reinbacher to mature and simultaneously with the downfall of Toronto and Boston). We have time to develop a winning team.</div></div>
I'm willing to overpay for Zegras he's a fine fit as 2nd line centre and the PP will improve.
