Not only do they not have that appetite, they don't have the appetite to pay him 11M just for next season.

Trading Marner And JT In The Same Deal Half Retained
Unless I'm missing something, this trade is not saving you 11.5M. You'd be taking back slightly more cap, dude. And that's if Lucius and Heinola don't come up.

The Blues are just fine, thanks. They had a winning record in retool season one and have a top 10 prospect pool already coming through. Not everyone has to flail about needlessly for one series win in 20 seasons.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmljk22</b></div><div>In all honesty, I've never expected Parayko to come to the Leafs. Despite your clear hatred of the Leafs which is clear in your posts, Marner is the more valuable asset in a 1 for 1 deal, simple as that, especially so with an extension in place. I get you love your #1 DMan and I would too but this is completely besides the point. Marner would instantly become the best player on the team and value wise thats an easy yes for St. Louis to except. If you want to say his contract brings negative value, sure, he is overpaid but its not like Parayko's contract will be a steal for its entire duration.
Obviously, there will be no changing your mind but I would like for you for just a second to try and comprehend that I'm making a completely rational arguement with the counter point of "well I don't think they should do it and my team is better run than yours"</div></div>
Oh sweet Moses, are you really going to run straight to the "Leafs hater" fake persecution act? This is pathetic. I barely spend any time at all thinking about the Leafs when I'm not trying to talk sense into the ever-frazzled Leafs fans here.
Your argument has less than zero rationality to it for the Blues. Which has been repeatedly explained in large detail. And you want to pretend I'm the one ignoring reality? You guys just refuse to listen to anyone.
Marner is NOT a target for the Blues in any sense, in any timeline. This is not even remotely difficult. But sure, imagine it's everyone else missing the point while you all desperately try to dump Marner.
And also, Marner would NOT be the Blues best player. Even if he would be, that's not how the Blues team build. That's how teams who win one round in 20 years team build.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmljk22</b></div><div>Okay, let's put it this way, what is the real sticking point for St. Louis here? It's not their timeline because they aren't contending anytime soon? Because their defense might suck next year? What's the issue with that, because realistically you could just retool?</div></div>
The Blues are not retooling. We've been over this and over this. The Blues do not tank, they probably cannot afford it as a franchise, it's worlds away from being a sure benefit and there's no frigging way they'd squander the primes of Thomas and Kyrou to do it. It is NOT happening. And it is NOT necessary. At all.
As for "contending any time soon" I'm gonna go out on a fairly sturdy limb and suggest the Blues will do so before the Leafs do.
Everything here is the sticking point. EVERYTHING. He's not being traded to the Blues. And Parayko is NOT coming to Toronto.

Like I said, the prospect pool is getting sad. If they can't get the one they want to drop, trading back helps them. The locals are all saying this, so I'm choosing to listen to them. It's possible to have two objectives at the same time.

Huh? Their prospect pool is starting to get real shallow, man. There's literally like five Devils fans on here eagerly running multiple trade down ideas with the Blues. I've even seen some local Devils writers talking about trading down.
Edit: While I was typing this, yet another Devils fan AGM went up with a Blues trade down. There has been like 6-7 of these already just this morning. And it's been like that for a couple weeks.

Okaaay, and the value is frigging horrific for the Blues. They're not going to make boldly stupid moves like the Leafs. Good organizations do things a better way.

Offseason predictions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesReport18</b></div><div>I know you're not a fan of Kessel at all but I personally see a lot in his game that I like. He has been one of the only defenders that when paired with Krug still performed well. I think he has more offense to his game than what he showed last year. At the least it doesn't hurt to give him a run in the top 4 next year like I said they shouldn't be worried about winning. If he sucks in the top 4 role then you look for someone to replace him.</div></div>
He had next to no offense this season. And technically more like negative offense since he constantly costs us zone possession with hideous mistakes. And saying he performed well with Krug is extremely generous.
Also, where is this bizatre concept of winning not mattering come from? Winning absolutely matters and there's no reason this team cannot be a playoff team next season with a few specific alterations. Knowing it's not time to contend yet does not = winning doesn't matter.
It can definitely hurt to play Kessel top 4 next season.

How is it possible that you managed to make this like twice as delusional as the other painfully delusional Blues trades this morning?
The Blues would not give any single one of those pieces straight up for Marner. The Blues do not want Marner at all. They cannot afford him, won't re-sign him and he's exactly the opposite of what they need even before giving up three cornerstone players.
Get a grip, folks. Please.

If we got rid of Faulk, I'd probably offer at most a 2nd for Lily. That's it.</div></div>
He's #4/5 Dman who gets benched in the playoffs EVERY season because his most prominent characteristic is horrific mistakes. You're right, he might be vaguely interesting if Faulk leaves and the price is nice. MAYBE.

What are you on about? This trade only harms the Blues. They give up two of their three most indispensable players (both locked down, mind you) for one year of a regular season perimeter winger whose AAV means they can't even replace the departed 1G and 1RD.

Ya know, I actually feel for someone in the mindset to post such a shrieking cry for help. FYI, your entire offer does not even get you a whiff of Thomas. Or Parayko by himself, for that matter. And then you also want your prospect pool rebuilt from ashes. I really hope you guys pull it together soon. This stuff is just embarrassing.

Not gonna lie, I am genuinely baffled at how so many in the Blues bubble imagine Kessel is close to being a legit top 4 guy. I'd much sooner bet on Faulk resuming normal service given the summer to fully heal than I would on Kessel being anything more than a 6th/7th D caliber player next season. He's an absolute horror show when the puck is on his stick.
Blues hockey is about reducing silly mistakes and controlling the puck. Kessel keeps us defending defending defending.

So you just block out all reality and plow through... got it.
Woll's quality start pct this season was 48%. Binnington's was 60%. He stole games for the Blues the entire season long. He will likely get a decent amount of Vezina votes when the totals are released. Everybody and their mother knows Binnington was nigh miraculous this season... apparently Toronto doesnt get much hockey coverage. :tearsofjoy
Also, umm, where is Woll's Cup win as a rookie?
