I actually disagree, it does both: this gives them 30 million in cash savings over 7 years, and pick their favourite Canucks d prospect (you know, the thing you use draft picks to get)

Fair! Would love to have Pettersson at 8x3 but the negative Nancy's around here always come out of the woodwork if you have him at that

Would love to but I think the bridge makes sense for team and player: he can bet on himself and get more per year on a later deal, and he would command more per year than the Canucks can afford on a longer deal I would think

fair, but i think isles would at least think twice about walking barzal to ufa for 8/year. not just because of the compensation 1,2,3 picks, but also because of the assets they would have to give up to dump ~4 million in salary to make room

fair but the whole idea of not spending to the cap is to use the space for the bonuses from this season, so they don't apply against next seasons cap

I think what he means is:
-hickey's cap hit is 2.5/year, but has only played half a season out of the last two years and has decidedly negative value. Probably would have to pay assets to dump him.
-fritz: minor leaguer. oleksiak: solid 2nd pair dman at a great price. you think a 3rd is the difference between the two??
-czarnik: minor leaguer, but the picks miiight make up the difference
Barzal could probably get more on a 6-year deal but probably shouldn't make more than 8 on a bridge, so I at least agree with your AAV there.

I think using pearson's very reasonable contract as a way to dump cap is an easy way for the Canucks to regress. Would rather give up a 2nd to dump beagle or Roussel who have multi year deals at a similar number

I think thats a massive overpay to move a useful and not overpaid player in killorn. Cernak alone is worth a 2nd and packaged with killorn is positive value (which we'll ignore for the sake of argument). Are you saying tampa would trade a 1st for glendenning and a 3rd?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ville__Koho</b></div><div>- Ferland (hopefully) won't be on LTIR forever, so you do need some cap space for him.
- That's an interesting bridge deal for Hughes, usually those are around the 5-6mill range, but to be fair Hughes is a franchise d-man so he might ask for 7
- Edler is worth more then 2 mill imo
- You would most likely lose Boeser, as he has an expiring deal next year, unless someone is moved out he will leave
- Although with Luongo off the books next year you might be able to pull a leafs and force some people to sign league min while re-signing Boeser.
Pretty much what all this means is that you are in cap hell lmfao</div></div>
24 million in cap space to sign a backup, boeser, virtanen, and 8 others. The other expiring deals will all be small, 1-1.5 million each. Boeser gets 8, virtanen gets 3, backup gets 3. 10 million to sign 8 players so 2 leftover if you wanna give elder that raise to 4 mill/year. I don't think it's cap hell until Horvat/Miller need new deals

Boeser is a talented player don't get me wrong, but he's not close to the level of Matt Tkachuk. Tkachuk is absolutely elite, Boeser is really good.</div></div>
I agree that Tkachuk is a better, more complete player, but I don't think Boeser is a passenger of pettersson: his stats before/after pettersson joined the team are essentially identical, if not better before pettersson joined.

Helping Tampa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>The second deal would obviously be in place before the 1st happens. It's essentially just a three-way trade. Also, Tampa can keep Paquette if they want doesn't really matter to me</div></div>
Let me put it this way:
Canucks side of the deal:
Cernak, Erik [RFA Rights]
Gourde, Yanni
Killorn, Alex
Paquette, Cédric
All positive value players, except mayyybe Gourde. Killorn might be a wash. The canucks could conceivable turn around and deal any one of these players without losing any assets.
Tampa side:
Eriksson, Loui
Beagle, Jay
Focht, Carson
2021 1st round pick (VAN)
2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
Eriksson's contract has tremendous negative value, i.e. it would cost something like 2 1sts to dump him straight up. Beagle is probably close to neutral. Focht is a 5th rounder and hasn't made too much noise so we'll treat him as a 5th. Could tampa dump Eriksson and Beagle for a 1st, 3rd, and Focht (5th)? Probably not. So this side of the deal has negative value, meaning tampa gave away cernak's rights and pacquette for less than nothing

Helping Tampa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>You're trading Cernak and a 2nd for 11mil in cap space</div></div>
but not really, because tampa still has to go and do the legwork to dump the bad contracts
what you have proposed is essentially canucks and tampa swapping large contracts (note that tampa's contracts that they're dumping are substantially less negative value than the canucks contracts). then tampa has to dump the bad canucks contracts. why wouldnt they spend less to dump their own, and not lose a player like paquette who's making <2 million?
