retaining the core
* Rodrigues turns 30 this summer, is coming off his two best years as a pro and he will be looking to <em><strong>get paid!</strong></em> This will likely end up being the biggest payday of his career. I'm not saying he's going to break the bank, but both the money and (especially) the term here are way too team-friendly, IMHO. He'll be able to get more of both from someone else on the open market, I don't think the Avs will be able to afford to keep him.
* Dadonov... I think $3 million is a reasonable number, but he's good enough to get longer term from whoever he signs with, and at 34, he'll surely be looking to do so.

Is Rossi a bust
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>imo he needs a change of scenery</div></div>
He's 21. He's been nearly a point-per-game player in the AHL, and he's played a grand total of 21 NHL games so far. He was widely regarded as one of the hardest-working and most physically fit players among top prospects for the 2020 draft, before he lost an entire year of development to long-term complications from COVID. And he is the <em>exact</em> type of player the Wild will need during these next two seasons: one making close to the league minimum with a chance to (potentially, hopefully) perform well beyond his cap hit. Trading him now makes absolutely zero sense. I can't believe how many people are already giving up on him.

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Islesforthecup</b></div><div>I wasn’t talking about any of that. You said there’s a reason Parise is making league minimum, the reason is bc he’s willing to take less to play on LI. He could easily get 3.5 on the open market</div></div>
Someone else asked about the buyouts, I was merely piggybacking on your thoughts with my own answer. I said nothing about Parise's contract with the Isles, that was someone else.

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>Assuming the trade maybe changed from it's original?
If not, I wouldn't be turned off by Petrovsky based on draft position. Kid is solid and if you got offered him and a pick for Seeler, that's a snap accept all day. Wild wouldn't do that, but it's a no-brainer from PHI side.
I'd be shocked if you got a 3rd for Seeler, as much as I love him and am biased towards MN kids. Maybe at the deadline, but I don't see it for a 3rd pair/7th D tweener.</div></div>
You might be correct and maybe the Wild wouldn't go for this trade. You never know trading an 18-year-old prospect if you're going to end up regretting it, but given how flush the Wild pipeline is with more highly regarded prospects and Petrovsky's smallish stature (eliteprospects lists him as 5'9" and 170 lbs), it felt like a deal BG could make and live with the outcome. Petrovsky was a 6th rounder a year ago coming off a season nearly identical to his '22-23 campaign, so it's hard to imagine his stock has appreciated <em>that</em> much to price himself out of a deal like this. But maybe the swap of draft picks included in that deal makes it an overpayment for Minnesota.
I notice in a lot of these Armchair-GM simulations that people overvalue players on their favorite team and create trade scenarios that are completely unrealistic. I wanted to avoid doing that, so I tried to put myself in the shoes of the other team's GM (or more realistically, their fanbase lol) in any deal I tried to build. I feel good about the fact I've had at least one Flyers fan and one Wild fan saying they don't think their team would do that trade haha.

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Islesforthecup</b></div><div>Parise has been extremely effective with NYI and had 21 goals this year making league minimum. The reason is that he already got paid and just wants to play on LI</div></div>
The buyouts were mostly about cost certainty, based on everything I've read. Trading them without retaining salary was going to be difficult, given their declining performance and high price tags (and NMCs). And if one or both of them opted to retire before their contracts were completed, the Wild faced paying a recapture penalty. The buyouts <em>suck</em>, no doubt, but Guerin seemingly preferred to know exactly how much money he had to work with every year rather than making moves based on an assumption that he'd have more and then having the rug pulled out from under him.

Wild 1 year from Cap Relief
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Rossi does not look like the A+ prospect to garner a 1st round pick</div></div>
I'm amazed by how many of these Wild Armchair-GM simulations include the Wild trading away Rossi. I feel like the best (maybe only) scenario whereby the Wild are competitive in 2023-24 is if Rossi (and/or guys like Beckman, Walker, Giroux, etc) take a big step forward. They <em>need</em> those guys to be the cheap, young talent BG mentioned after the season ended. I still think there's a good chance that breakout is coming for Rossi, and Guerin would be selling super low if they got rid of him now.

Rebuild
None of Zuccarello, Hartman, Foligno or Gustavsson -- nor any combination thereof -- will fetch a 1st rounder in any trade, much less <em>additional</em> high- or mid-round picks on top of that. As a Wild fan, I'd love to be wrong about that, but...

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Samsoc22</b></div><div>Need a higher pick for Seeler for sure, has to be a third at least</div></div>
You might be right, I think a 3rd seems fair. I think a 2nd by itself is too steep. But the Wild have no 3rd or 4th in this draft <em>or next</em>, so they can't meet that ask. My original version of that trade, I had the Wild giving up their extra 2nd-round pick (from VGK) for the surplus 3rd Philly got from FLA, and it also included Goligoski going to the Flyers. You could make an argument that giving up roughly 30 draft spots for Seeler there could be worth it, and there's some symmetry to the teams swapping extra picks to move back into a round they won't otherwise be involved in this year. Talked myself out of it though and substituted Petrovsky, who at least has a little bit of juice as a prospect. (Also not sure how much use Philly has for Goligoski the more I thought about it.)
I like Seeler a lot, and obviously given the Wild's cap crunch, the fact he makes the league minimum next year is ideal. He potentially replaces some grit they'll lose letting Reaves walk, he's fairly responsible defensively. He's an excellent fit IMHO. But I personally think a 3rd rounder is about <em>the most</em> Flyers fans should expect to fetch in return for Seeler. He's still a third-pair Dman who averaged 14 and a half minutes a game and had 14 points, which was a career high as a pro. And he's only signed for one more year before the Wild would have to either give him a raise they probably can't afford or, more likely, let him walk. Maybe flip him for something at the deadline if the team sucks or if one or more of the kids in Iowa looks like they're ready to step in at some point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>This is CF where everyone is apparently an intern to the GM and knows definitively what a team would or wouldn't do.
It's a good offer. Highly doubt it's enough, but imagine it's exactly the kinda thing Briere would counter with some ridiculous ask just in case. Rossi + Addison (or Lambos) + multiple 1sts (or more!)
It's like when you get a job offer that you don't really want take, so you ask for something totally absurd. More often than not, they don't meet the demand, but occasionally you get surprised. It's a no-lose situation for Briere to at least entertain offers on the pick.</div></div>
As a Wild fan, I think this is already too rich for Michkov, even if he ends up being an exceptionally special player (someday). I still think Rossi can be a very special player for the Wild! That's not to say a package like this isn't about what it would take to tempt Philly into trading that pick in that situation, but Minnesota ain't the team that's going to make that deal.
Michkov is expected to be three years away from being able to help whichever team takes him, the Wild are going to NEED Rossi to finally step into the lineup and start contributing starting this upcoming season.

Minnesota Wild trades Goligoski to the Chicago Blackhawks
Golly will be 38 when next season begins. He was a healthy scratch down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Goligoski the player has value. I believe he's absolutely still good enough to play in the NHL -- and with a price tag of $2 million for only one more year, I think Guerin will be able to find a dance partner rather easily. But nobody is going to give up anything of value to acquire him. Low-level prospect or 7th rounder is my guess.
