My dream 3C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>By some Flames fans you mean KingofRnR... For some unkown reason he really likes Graves and has wanted the Flames to acquire him for years.
Myself I'd be perfectly happy with a 3rd for Graves without retention if his contract only had 2 or even 3 years left instead of 5 years left. 5 years at 4.5 mil per doesn't fit the flames future but 5 years at 3.5 mil per would be fine.</div></div>
Yup Graves is a guy I like a lot. Big Canadian 2-Way Defensemen who handles a tremendous work load like Tanev did for us, yet can contribute offense
He’d be a complimentary D-Partner for Andersson or Miromanov and maybe eventually Brustewicz. He’s Young and his Cap Hit is fair. Besides, expecting a Team to retain for 5 seasons is simply unrealistic
I mean his CapFriendly Bio sums him up pretty well: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/scouting-reports/players/ryan-graves">Ryan Graves CF Profile</a>
He’s just a guy I think would fit the Flames and I’d be willing to pay up to a mid-3rd for him, but if we can get him for less, even better!

1RD’s aren’t cheap to acquire dude and we’re not looking to Trade Andersson, so it’d have to be an offer we absolutely couldn’t refuse
Byram’s decent, but he’s had injury issues and had a down year. There’s no guarantees that 11th OA Pick generates anything and neither Krebs or Kulich are that great either

It’s not a bad offer for Andersson, but we’d be looking for a bit more I think. Rousek doesn’t do anything for us, but Krebs or Kulich might

lol, Robertson isn’t comparable to those guys of which Marner & Kane are not what I would consider tiny
We already have Jakob Pelletier, a former 1st Rounder, as our tiny skilled winger, so again, we don’t need or want another

Utilizing FA and big changes on D
I personally like Graves and would have no problem with the Flames paying a 2026-3rd Round Pick to acquire him. It’s less than we received for Zadorov and Graves comes with term that expires when he’s 33/34, which isn’t that old, so I like that Trade
This said, if we can get him for even less, I’d be ecstatic about having him as a Flame

Markstrom and CGY heading to Splitsville
Many Flames Fans are ready to move on from Markstrom and hand the reigns to Wolf and a healthy Vladar, so I for one am definitely hoping to see him Traded at the deadline for ideally another or a much better 1st Round Pick. I do believe we will need to retain at least $2mil to get a quality return though
The only way I see CGY having an interest in Holtz is if they plan to flip him or Coronato for their actual need, which is a True Centre. Otherwise, they’ll likely want a quality Pick to Draft and Develop One of their own
I do believe it takes more than Holtz alone to get Marky though, especially if he’s being retained on though

Graves will only be 33 going on 34 when his contract expires. His Term is a non issue and he’s a Tradeable Asset AFAIC. He’s a Good Big Rugged Defensemen, something we need

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Why do you have Pittsburgh getting assets for dumping a contract? With all that term left on his contract Calgary would want retention on Graves to take him even just for future considerations.
I'd rather keep Sharky. Make it Markstrom + Mangi with retention on Mangi. Probably need to remove Pinelli too for LA to consider it.</div></div>
Meh, I think Graves is worth what Zadorov fetched, especially given he has term, but I’d be happy to pay less for sure
Yeah that works too. I just started with Markstrom and added another decent piece to entice LAK, but then figured we needed a prospect back if we were parting with Sharky. I guess I was thinking if we couldn’t get a favourable extension done with Sharangovich, we’d move him in a Trade for a Big & Skilled Physical Centre

Weaponize the Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Not upset, just pointing out that it's not very realistic.
At $1M, Vladar is a solid option because you can bury him in the AHL if necessary.
At $2.2M, he's a liability. More likely he goes on waivers and Calgary has to eat the $1M in dead cap space while he plays for the Wranglers.</div></div>
Hopefully he just gets healthy, rebounds and increases his value, otherwise your scenario could certainly come true. Fortunately the Flames should have no issue affording it

Right, I don’t particularly care for his laziness and entitlement either, but a Big Skilled Physical Centre like Huberdeau had in Barkov and Bennett with a Speedy Winger like Duclair would probably do him wonders. I’d love to see Pospisil on a line with Huberdeau, but don’t think he brings enough finishing skill

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bast</b></div><div>I think it's a little light for Andersson.
If it was the last year of his contract, then I could see a package similar to Hanifin.
We also have no use for Jarnkrok, because we already have 13 forwards signed for next year, and we need to make spots for Coronato, and Pelletier. With Schwindt, and Klapka fighting for 4th line duty.</div></div>
It’s a lot light. Andersson is worth more than double that return, especially with 2 yrs remaining at his Cap Hit. 1RD’s rarely come available and cost a premium when they do. VAN lucked out huge on the Hronek Trade
I’d be interested in seeing Jarnkrok Centre an offensive 4th line with Pelletier & Coronato or when Size & Grit is needed with Greer & either Hunt/Klapka/Schwindt.
Jarnkrok’s a much better option than Rooney and can help Kill Penalties as well, not to mention he brings a Right Shot and Veteran Leadership/Mentorship for the Young Guns. Not sure he wants to return to Calgary or be used in that role though.

One big trade
We need Players like Coleman and Weegar far more than an okay Prospect like Kulich
Kulich has proven he’s a stud Junior Player, but hasn’t exactly torn it up at the Professional level. Flames have had lots of PPG AHL Players not make it to the NHL, most recently Adam Ruzicka, so not saying Kulich can’t and won’t become a Good NHL Player, just that he’s not interesting enough to consider parting with Weegar or Coleman to acquire

How bout Okhotiuk, Hanley or Duehr for Bean instead. Bean would have to be agreeable to a huge pay cut though
Bean probably won’t be Qualified and Signs for League Minimum anyways, so he’s worth closer to “Future Considerations” than a Late Pick. Just would like to see Bean at Training Camp to see if he can turn things around and crack the lineup
