I am not convinced Montreal is trying to improve their team. They host 2020 draft and may want a shot at Alexis Lafreniere. Aho offersheet looks like a smokescreen. Carolina got Aho at the AAV they wanted.</div></div>
it's a 2021 first round pick for that reason bud ;)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Leddy probably brings back more than just a 1st, especially if MTL misses out on Gardiner. The OTT and EDM trades are pretty fair, though could possibly squeeze a pick out of EDM given the bounce back season Boychuk had last year. The Vegas trade is unnecessary if you're signing Laine to an OS, gotta leave room for some of the young guys to step in... Beau, Ho-Sang, Bellows are all NHL ready, with Wahlstrom not far behind.
You put Lee and Bailey in the 1 and 2 LW slots, with Beau in 3 LW, Casey in 3C and Ho-Sang in 3 RW and Komarov takes the Clutters spot as the 4 RW.</div></div>
I like the risk/reward on Gusev, he could be beast, or could flop, but for a second and a third and a two year deal I'm willing to roll the dice for him. If he's as good as he could be, barzal between him and laine could be nuts.
I don't think Ho-Sang is ever going to make it. Beau, yeah, probably move him to third line and komorov to reaves spot like you said and scratch reaves if need be. Wahlstrom is probably a year or two away, he provides depth if gusev stinks / doesn't want to stay after the two year deal. Laine is also streaky, so I think having a guy like gusev helps minimize that.
I also agree that maybe you can squeeze a little more out of some of those trades, but I tried to keep it as realistic and built on deals that I think would get done.

15mil projected next year and they're RFAs, even if it goes up a mil there's 16 to split between three that need it. At that point you probably end up trying to move Bailey and a pick for cap relief, that's the issue with being near the cap as toronto is finding out.

It is crazy to me that people use armchair -gm and think that GM's are looking at this, or that anyone makes one thinking it's what is going to happen.
It's for fun guy. It's just to see what could happen with a budget. It doesn't mean I expect this to happen, that I think lou is going to do it, or that I even want it to happen. It just is a scenario that could make it work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laudan</b></div><div>The problem i see ( i will go seriously and with logic here, cause like most of those butthurters from your fan base you are dealing with this reasonable ) is Marner was "recruited" for the cause of landing Tavares, then watching how he was hillbillied on Feb and from that reason i think other Teams offer-sheets ( tho i doubt there will be any, if those 1sts would be such a liability to throw around, there would be 7 Offer-sheets each year but they arent, two in last 15 years i think ) would be accepted from him before NYI one....</div></div>
I mean he was just at Matt Martin's bachelor party in Vegas for a week and Matt loves the island. He also gets to come to a team that can very well be his team with Barzal going forward, and it's a team that has very passionate fans, more so than a lot of places. Toronto will never be Marners team, especially now. If he does get an 11.5 - 12 year deal in Toronto, he's going to be ridiculed and whenever he doesn't perform, he'll be ostracized.
We'll see what happens. It's all in fun :)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TyFrench17</b></div><div>Anything over 10.59 is 4 firsts. So if he is signing for less then that why wouldn’t the Leafs match?</div></div>
Because if the cap is really 81.5, they have 7 mil in space and need to move quite a few players to keep others around. this is a way for them to clear space, and get a pretty good return for something that could happen for a comparable amount.
very few teams will want kadri
few will want zaitsev
Marleau very well could not waive his deal
Matching 10.5 assumes you know for sure you can clear space for it, and for Kap, and to still field a team as good without Gard on D, Kadri, maybe even Kap if they lose him.

The problem with this idea is that just because he doesn't sign with Toronto doesn't mean he doesn't take an offer sheet at a value lower than four firsts if he thinks it'll be a better option for him long term. It's quiet possible he wants a short term 10-11 deal and won't commit 8 years anywhere. If he takes 2/10 offer sheet it's two firsts, a second, and a third. So the idea is if it comes down to that, would you just take that for him, or would Dubas rather dump some salary too?

I was in the realm of a three, I think maybe a three gets it done considering the really bland defense FA's this year. Especially if Karlsson re-ups in SJ. It's a feeler deal, start at 4, they probably want a two like you said, maybe both agree on a three. Maybe get them to cover 500k of his salary with a second to make the salaries offset. At the end of the day I'd do it for a second too though.

I just don't think we can have wahlstrom sit on fourth line minutes, it's better to have him in the AHL until he's ready to be a top 6 line. I moved AHO and scratched hickey now too. I'd be really happy if this was the team next year, lol. Could even send hickey somewhere for a third rounder and I'd be fine with it. Get anything for him and dump a little salary.

Yeah, I get it. I swapped the trade and i'm still pretty happy with it. Get MDC around Zeeker, maybe just buyout leo and use martin as a scratch and get bellows or otto or someone else around zeeker too. It's really unfair to keep zeeker on that fourth line with cal and martin and the fact that he still put up 20 goals. Maybe just send Leddy for zucker or Saad even for a winger so casey can get third line time.

It's pretty impressive how much he keeps the media quiet too. I always knew that, but with him as GM now it's weird.
The two isles beat writes had Nelson details just minutes before the official announcement. No rumors, then done deal. However, a few people seemed to have known before hand, so they had details, and didn't leak. Pretty impressive. It's a love/hate thing too. I hate not hearing a peep, but I love how much that probably helps with negotiations and that he runs it so oldschool.

There is no, "why trade when you can os"
Lou has worked 32 years in the NHL and has never once made an os.</div></div>
I don't think the 23rd overall is a big loss. It's entirely possible we lose Lehner and struggle with goals and end up with a higher pick in 2020. I'm 30 years old, and I've never seen the islanders go further than they did this year, it's an outlier. I'd rather lose the 23rd pick for a guy who put up 50 points at 22 and maybe get a higher pick (if we get lower than the trade was worth it.)
The offersheet money amount he'll probably get is a first and a third, and I think you probably have to beat that to get him from TOR. MAYBE a second and a prospect? But I think Tor takes this, and it benefits both teams. I wouldn't be upset. Maybe it turns into a mistake later, but time would have to tell.
