Playoffs or bust
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>I wouldn’t say it’s playoffs or bust. More like cup or bust
But those lines do look good, hopefully Laffy, Kakko and chytil take a big step forward</div></div>
It's not cup or bust. The window is realistically just opening, it was only "cup or bust" last year because we were able to get Kane and Tarasenko without giving up much but the only "bust" part was the embarrassment of the exit. We're still in fine condition because the rebuild is still going on.

Realistic Lineup
Think Othmann should start the season in Hartford unless he really crushes it in preseason

And if they do, advance to the rear and let it happen, Let some other GM do a Glen Sather. The Rangers can't match that, and if you have to choose between K'Andre and Laffy at this point, K'Andre win. This is what being fiscally irresponsible leads to, and I've been watching Ranger GM's be fiscally irresponsible for over 65 years. Here we ar, once again, confronting CAP space reality!!!

What is the endgame for Othmann here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sprak</b></div><div>Usually, wingers can play either side, Othmann might be exclusively an LW in juniors but look for that to change as he goes into pro play. The same happened to Lafreniere, who was drafted as an LW but now plays either side (even if it had mixed results).</div></div>
Yeah but the Lafreniere RW experiment has been nothing short of disastrous for his growth lol, and that was with him getting first line minutes to boost his new role. At least Othmann has *some* history of playing RW in juniors but for a prospect who took a step back in 2022-23, you don't want to convolute a trajectory that already needs a little bit of refocus.
I guess the most probable scenario here is maybe Othmann re-learns the right wing in Hartford?

NYR TOR Blockbuster
Why would Drury throw away Cuylee just to trade Goodrow when he could simply buy Goodrow out if he has to? The buyout is nearly painless and for the first 2 years costs nothing. The answer is, he wouldn't.

23-24 NYR 1 MIL CAP INCREASE - REAL BIG SHAKEUP
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpigeon2000</b></div><div>That's why I wrote in the description it doesn't necessarily have to be DET as a target for a Goodrow trade - I chose DET for this exercise due to similar past trades between the two orgs (Marc Staal), Yzerman knowing what he will be getting, etc.
Do you feel the amended trade proposal, in general, would be an acceptable one for a team to make.</div></div>
Depends how they feel about Goodrow. A team might be interested in a player like him but players like him are actually in abundance. Most teams have their own internal options or could sign some of the available options for better contacts than what he has. Honestly it's just the term on his deal that is the difficult part, trade clause doesn't help. If he had 2 years, or maybe even 3 left it might be better but Detroit in particular, really most teams able to take him on, are going to have high end players coming off ELCs before his contract is up. They will then be recalled l required to pay to dump an even older Goodrow at that time. There are other factors as well but I didn't feel like getting into it all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpigeon2000</b></div><div>I see the error in my ways - amended the Goodrow trade. That should be acceptable for DET (or any team). I used the Marc Staal trade as a base
I agree LAF probably needs to go for help on the right side. Never expected him to be a generational talent but if he blows up somewhere else then so be it. Branch Rickey philosophy - better to move on 1 year early than 1 year too late.</div></div>
42 is excellent

23-24 NYR 1 MIL CAP INCREASE - REAL BIG SHAKEUP
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpigeon2000</b></div><div>Please see the reply to MoreHitsSeider's post. To add an additional response to your post, if palhal states teams should hold "feet to the flames" to not help teams like the Rangers with their cap challenges, the opposite is true as well - why would cap challenged teams bend over backwards to give on the cusp teams sweetheart deals that could help that team get past them.</div></div>
Are you saying that New York would be bending over backwards to give Detroit a "sweetheart" deal here? My idea of a trade involving both to Detroit would be Trouba (2M retained) and Goodrow (641,667) retained for either Future Considerations or Mastrosimone signing rights. Trouba at 6M is a good deal for us and Goodrow at 3M is still an overpaid 4th line winger with 4 years of term. One of the biggest issues to get around is the trade clauses, Trouba with his full NMC and Goodrow with 15 team no trade list. Assuming they both accept a trade to Detroit in this scenario. Using retention instead of buyouts doesn't save them more next season, actually it's about 700K worse next season, it saves them 1.5M the following season and then like 2.7M the year after and so on. So the long term effects of buyouts would probably hurt the franchise more than the retention. Not to mention that you are gaining 9M in cap space which is the whole idea of this scenario. So is Detroit getting a sweetheart deal or is New York? Both teams benefit from this which is the idea of making trades.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpigeon2000</b></div><div>I am assuming your comment is based off of tonyhzs' comment - suggesting that a deal with DET should be Goodrow and Trouba (with retention) for just a mid round draft pick. I cannot see happening.
If the Rangers were going to move on from both (I still feel Goodrow will not be on the team next year - I like the intangibles and some of the other unmeasurable items he brings to a team but the offense & defense he brings can be handled by a more cost-effective player) it would be separate transactions with the most likely being Goodrow traded and Trouba bought out. I can see a scenario with both traded but separate deals - trouba deal probably bringing back a player with a big (but not as big as Trouba's) contract (a "we'll trade you our contract albatross that fits a need on your team for your albatross that fits a need on our team" kind of deal)</div></div>
I don't need both players. But Trouba would be more valuable to the Red Wings than Goodrow would be. Whether you want to admit it or not 2 years of Trouba at 8 mil AAV lowers his trade value. Not many teams can take that on. Detroit can.

I'm really hoping Kravs matured enough and plays at a level high enough to at least put aside "1st round bust" talks aside for a bit.</div></div>
I’d love to see how awkward it would be for PK to enter that room. Reavo with a stare down and it certainly costed Blais a mill or more so you know he wouldn’t be friendly. 😂
Kravs will pick back up where he left off, slow start to the season for line 2 is my guess but once they click it will be dangerous. Line 1 and 3 will do some damage!

I think they want to roll 3 legit line plus a great 4th. Blais looked good on L1 last year before the injury. Kravs had some chemistry with Bread the year before. Kid line is going to be even better this season.
