Chychrun for Buch
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>The Sens will not sign a 30 year old till he’s 37 and don’t want another expensive winger</div></div>
If they're looking for 200 foot players with playoff experience and been apart of winning cultures who exactly do you think that would include that is younger than 30 that will be available? I'm not saying I want this to happen or that the Blues would even do it, but Buch fits what Staios claims he's looking for.

The deal starts with Bolduc AND a 1st. Leddy is pretty much viewed as a cap dump</div></div>
Right, Leddy was thrown in to make the cap work for the Blues, he's essentially a dump. Bolduc was an elite scorer in JR for two years straight, sure he's struggled in his first AHL season this year, but I'm confident he'll figure it out it just might take a couple/3 years in the AHL and OTT doesn't appear to be in a hurry (or shouldn't be). If the only thing holding this deal from being "bad" to acceptable in your eyes is upgrading the 2nd to a 1st I'd accept that. As much as I'd like to see a trade like this go down though my gut says both sides say no. Not enough picks/young enough talent for OTT, too much in general for one player for STL for an unestablished young veteran. I was just trying to gauge how other fans felt about it. I think OTT could probably do better elsewhere but I certainly don't think its a bad deal for them by any means.

Whether they want him or not I can't say but not sure why they wouldn't need another defenseman right now. They only have four signed for next season and only one more RFA after that. If they could get Krug at 50% retained from PHI, I'd say that'd be pretty attractive for a lot of teams.

I mean I agree, but that doesn't mean he can't be moved to someone else afterwards from there. On the flip side though, if no other option comes to fruition before the draft will he change his mind? I wouldn't exactly want to play for a team that no longer wants me. I don't blame him if he doesn't waive but I'm mostly posting this to gauge general opinions on the situation.

Tarasenko for Lafreniere
Let's say the going rate for Lafreniere is probably what Kirby Dach went for over the summer (a 1st and a 3rd). Tarasenko is probably going to be worth a 1st at the deadline to a contending team. So this trade can't be far off if the Blues just throw in a third as well as I threw Blais in for cap reasons and Brown the other way to fill Blais' roll right away If necessary) and he also has some potential he hasn't tapped as also being a former 11 overall pick. Of course if the Rangers aren't looking to win now and want future(s) instead this obviously isn't the deal they'd want but if they're looking to win now this is far from a "fleece". Is it enough? Maybe not, but it can't be far off.

I can see why they wouldn't but if they're looking to compete more this year like their offseason moves seem to spell out this trade certainly makes them a better team now...that Krug contract won't likely age well, but they're essentially trading a 1st and a cap dump for a top 4 defenseman that's arguably one of the best PP QBs in the league, that in general doesn't sound like a terrible deal.

Sanderson is unproven in the NHL. If the Sens are looking to actually compete this year like their offseason moves appear to spell out then they may want a more proven veteran like Krug in their top 4. But sure, it is a hole in the reasoning here if the Sens think highly of Sanderson, I'm not an expert on the team which is why I made this so I could gauge the general thoughts on this. Its extremely unlikely to happen anyways.

The latest report at the time was that the Yotes wanted (2) 1st's, a high end prospect, and Zaitsev from the Sens. I agree Zaitsev is a cap dump but if the report is right that may mean they need to take salary cap back to meet the cap floor. I made the trades here to get the Yotes what they wanted just from two teams instead of one. Krug may not waive, that's certainly a pretty big if here, but it is closer to his native Detroit so I figured maybe.

He stayed in college an extra year trying to get a NC (and probably would've if not for COVID happening right before the playoffs that year) when he probably could've went to the AHL and won a Hobey Baker. He got a season ending injury early last season or he easily would've got some NHL at some point last year. He was red hot in the AHL this year (20 points in 12 games). Ironically, your statement is less of an insult for Perunovich as it is a compliment for Chychrun. Its precisely why all of that other **** was thrown in the proposal. I doesn't mean that Perunovich isn't good. He's been great. It just means he blossomed a little later and he's not Chychrun good (a vast vast majority of even good prospects aren't playing in the NHL at 18 years old), but 23 is not old like you imply in your comment here.

Kostin's entire career to date (KHL/AHL/NHL) has shown that he's likely a 3rd liner going forward at best. Perunovich is a offence-only dman, which, as fun as that is, is a pretty easy thing to acquire. Heck, I'm sure Edmonton would toss them Tyson Barrie for a bag of pucks.</div></div>
Perunovich being an offensive dman isn't necessarily a bad thing. That guy has won and succeeded at every level. He's also a year removed from being the Hobey Baker winner. He was leading the AHL with 20 points in 12 games this year before being called up. I'd like you to tell me how many offensive defenseman can score like that. He's a very good prospect. You can't find guys that good just anywhere. I am very confident he'll excel after getting a some more games under his belt in the NHL. I see your point with Kostin but who goes in his place that makes it more worth it? Bolduc? Neighbors? Brown? I picked Kostin because its a guy Bill drafted while with the Blues and he's still young with some potential upside although at this point I agree he looks like a bottom sixer.
Lastly,...."I understand how tanking works, but throwing darts at a board in the dark, and acquiring actual high-end prospects isn't the same thing." Are players in the draft not high end prospects lol? I also think Bill would like to have a word about drafting being throwing darts in the dark. His record says otherwise, which is exactly my point. But maybe you're right, maybe he would like to have players already drafted. If you're talking NHL proven young players and not prospects like Thomas/Kyrou though than the Blues simply aren't making this trade. If you're saying former first round picks from the Blues like Bulduc or Neighbors is better than the Blues first than those can easily be one-to-one swaps if that's how Bill sees it. My point is still had that this trade isn't far off.

Leaking something like that is used to hike up the value, but at the end of the day hey ain't getting that. Look at Eichel's leaked asking price and then now much he actually went for. The same will happen if/when Chychrun gets traded. This is a very fair deal for both sides IMO.

I can see your point here but Bill Armstrong became a GM in this league due to his amazing scouting/drafting skills with the Blues. He might value picks (or picks that he's made like Perunovich and Kostin btw) more than just other orgs players themselves. I could be wrong but I think he's clearly set a bar for valuing picks. This is how tanking works btw. You load up on picks knowing that most will fail but with more picks you have a high chance to succeed and get a few winners and build a team around them later.

Arizona would be really stupid to decline that trade. Personally I think its too much IF you're not including Scandella in it as a cap dump. No chance anyone gives the Blues anything for Scandella. Did you see the price Arizona was charging to get dumps over the summer? They were getting a dump plus (2) second rounders in exchange for literally nothing. Add Scandella to the Arizona trade and I think its still a little steep but its something I think could be worth it.

I'm not saying they are equal. I asked what are you seeing that I don't see on the stat sheet and you gave me a bunch of things that multiple Blues bottom sixers provide for a fraction of the price. Bailey is obviously better than Barbs and Sunny just like Tarasenko is more than like still significantly better than Bailey. What exactly will the Isles send back in a Tarasenko trade then that makes sense? I've already seen rumblings that a deal has been made, I'm just trying to make sense of it is all. They aren't likely to be able to even take on half of Tarasenko's salary even if the Blues do retain the max 50% (which the Blues GM has been adamant about retaining none). Money will have to go back the other way and small time money like Hickey isn't enough lead alone the argument of the Blues even needing or wanting him. Again, I'm not trying to insult anyone, just trying to make sense of what might be coming in the next few weeks (more than likely after RFAs are signed).

I get what you're saying but does the old Tarasenko even need to exist? If he's 3/4 of the guy he last was he's still putting up 25+ goals and 50+ points which are goal numbers Bailey hasn't touched in his whole career. Add in that Bailey is a career minus player and it gets even worse comparatively. They're both being over paid for what they do so a straight up makes sense, in fact I think NY still has the better end of the deal two fold due to Tarasenko having only 2 years left vs Bailey's 3 and he also has a significantly higher ceiling.

He has chemistry with just about any of the centers. He can play both wings. He plays on the PK and the PP. Losing Bailey would be a pretty big blow to the Islanders for a goal scorer who plays only has 7 goals in the last 2 seasons and is a huge risk to be hurt again. Not to mention Isles would be adding 2.5M to the cap which they cannot really afford.</div></div>
The Blues have two guys like that for a combined $5m AAV in Barbs and Sunny lead alone one guy like that for $5m by himself...at 31 years old...for three more years. Barbs and Sunny put up similar numbers and do about everything you mention here except play the PP by which Sunny does occasionally. Its important to mention in an ideal world those two are playing on fourth line which again begs the question....how TF is Tarasenko not enough to get Bailey straight up? I thought this team needed scoring? They're clearly not getting that from Bailey. If this is how GMs are viewing this situation Tarasenko isn't going anywhere. Army isn't going to give him away lead alone trade him for an arguably significantly lesser player...and then some in addition to that. He'd rather him just play as his value to the team is higher than that of which would come in a trade IMO.
As for Tarasenko's stats over the last two seasons...All I have to say to this is its hard to have a realistic conversation with someone which all they're looking at is the 34 games Tarasenko has played over the last two seasons combined. Is he the guy he was the 5 before that? More than likely not, but he's just as likely not as bad as the previous two seasons where he's barely played at all. Somewhere in between is more than likely where he lies, where he lies is the debate sure but I'd argue that's still better than Bailey by a decent margin.

I will just assume you are not reading it correctly, because there's no way anyone could ever think that Martinez's numbers here are in the "equal at best to Oleksiak" category. And zone exits is an individual stat. Even if they play together every minute, partners won't have identical numbers.

I mean I'd like Petro and Eddy to be here over Faulk and Krug as well but here we are. It'd also be nice if Tarasenko swallowed his ego and didn't want out but again....here we are. I'm trying to put something realistic out there really more than something that's my opinion. Every move I made here came from something I've heard or at least seen at one point in time (from journalist not fans) except Sanford to Detroit...that's more of a "I need him gone, make it work" situation. If that isn't a realistic move then just remove Bozak and put Sanford in his place at a lower AAV. The RFA deals I based off of past RFA deals the Blues have made recently (compared them to Sunny, Barbs, Blais, Fabbri, and Sanford past RFA deals). The UFA deals were based off of Dom at the Athletics projected market values. I see your points with Oleksiak (I haven't seen him play a lot so I'll take your word for it on his flaws) but he's both cheaper and younger than Suter and Martinez. If Army can manage to get one of them closer to 4m AAV than 5m AAV I think those guys would be better options but that's going to cost at more term for older players which isn't great. Lastly, I've heard multiple Blues journalist mention Oleksiak as an option this summer which is another reason I picked him. I've seen Suter too so maybe there's something there to look at but I've seen no peep of Martinez. Not that, he's not an option, who saw Krug as an option after Petro fell through?

As Blues fans, we've also seen him regularly roasted. Time and time again. On his transition game alone, Dunn is easily superior from a defensive standpoint than Oleksiak could ever be. Do you have someone you'd prefer in that spot? Suter? Martinez? Say what you want about Dunn but he's gone. He's in a very Edmundson-esk situation in the fact that Dunn and Army have two different views of their value and its created a riff of sorts.
