Podkolzin's still on his KHL deal until '22.
As for the Myers deal, why don't you just switch him with Eriksson? Same cap hit, might have to add, but Myers is still a decent top 6 dman. You can save money there by just keeping him and trading or releasing Troy Stetcher.

The reason why Vancouver had or was rumoured to have Boeser on the block was because they wanted to <strong>shed</strong> cap space. Makes no sense for VAN.

Montreal probably wins when you look at it 5 years down the road, but the Blues really needed that cap space to have a chance at resigning their captain. Win-win.

I'm not sure whether it would be allowed in this case, but a similar situation where that has happened would be Micheal Stone just last year. Bought out during offseason, signed in September to the league minimum.

We don't need him because we can fill that need, if we have to, in FA. Nothing is "shockingly stupid" here. Virtanen can be used for a cap dump, and Palmu and the pick can be used in future trades as well.
Paying Josh Leivo 2.5M is not worth it, especially considering he played 50 games this year. 1-year deal or he goes. Stetcher is pretty good, but they'll really have to consider moving pieces for a 2nd pairing RHD if they want to contend.

People seem to underestimate Deangelo on here, surprisingly. He's getting paid almost double that, probably around 6.5 to 7M. Rangers decline anyways, they want to get rid of cap space.
