I may be in the minority here but as serviceable as Strome was, his point production was mostly due to his linemates. He is not that good a player, a 3rd liner on most playoff teams.

Panthers Change in Team Attitude
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>There are plenty of options for Ottawa on the left side, there's simply no reason to marry themselves to such a mediocre to bad player at nearly 5mil for the next 6 years. Sens have Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin and Reilly who are all LHD who will be in the NHL next year.
Also to the point about the cap washing out with Anisimov, I mean sure for one season, but who cares? The Sens don't care about the salary cap at all this season, and obviously the 5 years past this with Matheson is the far more pressing issue. Also worth mentioning that Anisimov is owed just 3mil in real money on that 4.75mil hit.</div></div>
Fair points, but Brannstrom and Wolanin have not proven anything yet either, and I am pretty sure that Brannstrom is RD. Reilly is a marginal NHL'er.
Let me make this clear. Matheson was a stud before. Superb skating abilities, and was thought to be 1st pair with Ekblad. Something happened that, as with other players on this team, he just declined and did not fit. So, yes it is a lengthy contract but as you said the Sens are not worried about the cap. What other options are out there to trade for that won't cost the Sens valuable assets and what UFAs are available that would actually go to Ottawa, or only go if Ottawa is the highest bidder? So I am thinking may as well take a change. If Matheson pans out then Ottawa will love him.

Panthers Change in Team Attitude
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>As a Jets fan I'll say this is probably fair but I'd rather not trade Laine.
Not trying to sound like a d!CK but this team is really bad, Bobrovsky would have to have one epic Vezina caliber season to drag this team into the playoffs.</div></div>
I agree. But, like I said there is a poor team mentality issue that cultivated in this locker room and it's that mediocrity is good enough. Bob can rebound. We know how good he is. He had a terrible defense in front of him and honestly the goalie coach has been a detriment to all goalies. He is not helping, at all. Didn't help Luongo, Reimer, Bob, Monty.... goalie coach makes a big difference.
We'll see. I think bringing in some much needed mental toughness and making some drastic changes would help this team.

Sure, I'd take that. I think the guy is best as a supplemental scorer on a good line anyway. Kinda like Vatrano.

I agree, but it's not like we've never seen bad players with bad contracts get traded before. Ottawa has no organizational depth. They will lose two d-men, and the first year of this trade is a wash with Artie's cap going to Florida.

In some sense yes, but Sheary, though playing on the opposite side, could give that 17-21 goal push. Not as good a shot as Frankie, but shoots and gets dirty for goals if he has to.

Why buyout Staal? He's been solid and can't afford to do ANOTHER buyout player. He'll play his last year, that's it.
Skjei may still be in the works. Have to make room for Tony D.

Panthers Still Need to Make Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey91</b></div><div>Before I was open to trading him if we got panarin bit now I just can’t see them trading him unless they know borgstrom or tippet is ready to make a jump forward. Last years team was just really bad cause of the coaching.</div></div>
Yeah. Boughner was likable but that coaching staff had no grip on this team. There was never any accountability and it created an atmosphere that accepted mediocre play.

Panthers Still Need to Make Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kosterjr</b></div><div>I think they only trade Hoffman for Defensive help and you young players like Malgin to get Gusev.</div></div>
They do, but they also would need to find room. I think the 3rd pair will be fine with Brown and possibly McCoshen, Stillman, or Weegar if he can play LD, or Brown if he can play LD. The second pair will have Matheson playing with either Stralman or Ekblad. If they get defensive help then it would be to replace Matheson, or Ekblad which is unlikely. Yandle is most likely not going anywhere.
We'll see what happens. I think they'll stick with this D group. Pysyk will be given a chance with a new coaching staff. Whoever disappoints or gets outperformed in training camp and pre-season will be traded then.
But I think that there are a few teams out there that missed out on FA scorers and would like to see what Hoffman will cost.

He’s definitely the most valuable. Makes me wonder if the Blue Jackets will phone in. Panthers would be losing 30 goals though and need to replace that with some offense. That’s where they have the prospects to possibly trade for Gusev, even though that is a risk. Possibly get Dzingel on the cheap?

Ranges with Marner Cup Contenders
Why trade Georgiev? He was excellent down the stretch and increased his potential to be a solid starting goalie. Henrik is aging, won’t be as reliable and may likely get injured. Shestyorkin is likely very good but also likely not ready for NHL action. Either way, why risk it?
Shatty will never accept a trade to Ottawa. Why are the Ducks taking back Beleskey? Kreider trade is terrible.

I'd want a 1st rounder to take on Shatty's full contract. Same as what Marleau returned for CAR. No one is going to do you a favour so you can sign all your RFAs.</div></div>
Anaheim could use another dman. You’re basically getting two roster players for free.

Picking up Clarkson’s remaining salary from IR, plus giving a great forechecking PK player that is nearly $1M less than Reaves, Vegas needs cap space badly. Good luck finding any team doing them any favors taking that much money in.

Not a Habs fan, but a NYR fan. Not sure how it is a ripoff as Kreider would be a rental player. You want a 1st round pick that would be 20th overall or above? If I proposed Pionk for Trouba before that deal happened, you would have laughed at it and called me a bias Rangers fan. But, it happened.
Two draft picks, one becomes a 2nd if Kreider re-signs (okay maybe it may become 1st), and a solid starting player who is young and improving. That for a 29 year old upcoming UFA player. Not a ripoff.

No sure why you signed Pickard when Montembeault is ready for back-up role. Hutton is not a bad idea, but not a significant change.
Also, qualifying offers to RFAs are based as a 10% salary increase on 1 year deals, so your RFA signings are off.
