As for Sheldon, I don't really see any teams wanting a coaching change. Maybe ANA, EDM, ARI, BUF, OTT, and FLA are the ones that are jumping out at me, but all of the, just recently (1.5 years or less) just did a coaching change. Probably OTT the most likely to do one, but not sure.</div></div>
I can See Sosh bringing in a pick or either a Centre or D prospect. Not involved in a package as I don't see the leafs spending at deadline. Maybe they bring in a 5/6 D but other than that I don't see Lou on the phone.
As for Sheldon, I don't see him leaving the Marlies system. Coaches aren't a huge need rn in the NHL at the moment. Maybe the year after or something. I would love for him to replace Babs in the future

I agree with your comments and I too really like Kapanen and Dermott. Dermott is not going anywhere as for my money he is a game changer and is actually the Leafs second best defenceman right now.

You know on CapFriendly, non Leafs fans...seem to think it's Nylander, Lilgren and picks for any sort of short term help. Leafs seem to have to pay more than any other team for players.

There is absolutely no chance that the Leafs would make this trade as Liljegren himself is the future elite defenceman that the Leafs have been dreaming of having since they missed out on Bobby Orr. He is a right handed defenceman with elite skating and offensive abilities and will be the Leafs Power Play quarterback for years when he makes the team. His age is also a perfect fit to blend in with the Leafs young core. Mark Hunter may have hit the jackpot when he drafted this guy. The Leafs also would also not be willing to give up Bracco with his upside and his elite offensive skills at this early stage of his career.
Karlsson is a great player but he is probably looking for a monster salary and term which would not fit into the Leafs cost structure given they need to sign Matthews, Marner and Nylander. No team in today's NHL can afford to have to much salary committed to only a few players or your team will start to decline like the Hawks. I also think that Leafs would also be relunant to give away the first round pick in a very deep draft when they have Mark Hunter at the controls who is probably the best in the business in drafting players.

Four Lines of Pain
Hard to believe the Leafs might be worse with Tavares but this might.. Getting rid of Zaitsev, Brown. Hoping Holl and Nielsen are NHLers. If over paying Tavares (or anyone) is what is needed to bring JT to the Leafs, maybe the Leafs should look elsewhere.

Reality is if the Leafs don't want to carry over any performance bonuses in 2019/20 their UFA signings money is only 9m in 2018/19. I can't see any player risking his long term financial future on a one year deal.

If Kruger was difference, why was waived by the Canes? You're thinking of Kruger that existed year ago, not the current model. And certainly not Grundstrom in a trade.

Quite goal by Kapanen tonight. He looks like an NHLer as Leafs fans suspected after watching him with the Marlies. I know many Leaf haters said we were homers, but Leafs fans do get to see many Marlie games and have some measure for evaluation.
Regarding the trade posted, why are seemingly 90% highly paid Dmen trades are players traded to the Leafs? McDonagh, Doughty, OEL, Tanev, Weber

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>Well they definitely do have enough cap room to keep both, but I would think DET would want bozak so they can flip him for assets. As for how long he can keep up his level of play, Idk. Same age as Marleau and he always seems to put up the points, and has great great chemistry with babs, so I think it could work. As for the retirement, I think they can probably fleece that off to ARI or the next expansion team that comes in eh?</div></div>
I look at the contract, and it was front loaded, so maybe Detroit is responsible for it, which even make it more acceptable for the Leafs.

Actually, the Bozak isn't need to do the cap, maybe the Leafs keep him, that would be deep centre spot this year. The trade is basically a 5m cap dump for the Wings, the players are kinda meaningless involved. Do the Wings want to do this? But to keep Zettenberg as really a 3rd line centre at 5m for 3 full years....just don't know about that. And just hoping he retires, and can dump two years of his contract cheaply...just don't know about that either. Lots of variables in the trade, more than most. But if you think Zetternberg can play effectively for this year and two more years, I'd go for.

The problem with the Zetterberg trade, is if does retires after 2 years the Wings are hit by the cap retirement clause of the cba. They would not be able to peddle his contract like they did with Datsyk's contract. The Wings would be hit for 2 seasons with 6 mil in dead money.

Yea, think Nashville would keep Ellis for their Cup run. Maybe the Leafs are in the Ellis hunt as a UFA 2019.

There is no reason to move Ellis anytime before next years trade deadline. Nashville has Forsberg, Fiala playing very well for them on lw with Pontus Aberg as their best lw prospect. They have scored 161 goals on the season while giving up 131 in 51 games. They have 4 games in hand on leafs and a pace of 2 goals a game they would have 169 goals, ten less than Leafs. Defensively, they have currently 31 goals less goals against compared to Leafs.
They don't need any offense, and Ellis clearly more valuable for a cup run this spring. The proposal is descent but the offer needs to offered elsewhere.

I'd probably say you're right. Figured Chiarelli might want to shake things up by bringing in 2 Grit guys. Since Fast >>>Slepyshev, wasn't sure if that and the pick would make up for the difference between Lias/Jesse. I'd up it to a 2nd rounder if that is what it takes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>This doesnt help us at all. Tanev isnt a top pairing dman, we have more then enough centres then to bring in hanzal, and islanders trade was too much of a dump</div></div>
Tanev has also proven to be one of the most injury prone guys in the league, pacing for a 57 game season. Don't really want a guy on the top pairing who only plays on average like 55 games a season...
Not sure if the value is there for Dallas but I don't want to be paying a 4th line center 3 million AAV for the next 3 years. Leafs will be tight enough to the cap without having a 7 million dollar 4th line.

TDL for this year, with one eye on the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>I agree alot of things can change over the course, But even Nylander wants to play centre in the near future. Yes He was drafted in the nonis era, but was also drafted by Mark hunter so that changes everything. He knows/has a plan for players and im honestly very sure, even going with their word, that Nylander will be playing centre in the near fututre.
As for trading rn, yes I agree, it does look more promising in the near future, but I, myself, hold Ellis on a high level and as a RHD, hes the type of player that can become a number 1 dman in TOR</div></div>
Ellis is from Hamilton, maybe the Leaf have an "in" with him as UFA. I'm not saying the Leafs need a "#1", but maybe Ellis, Zaitsev and Liljgren are three # 2s playing the RHD in a couple of years. That might be impressive for a long term.
I would love to have Nylander be a good NHL centre. Leafs are weak at pro level depth centres, and Nylander would be really help the cap and allow another young winger to take his place.

I don't want him then if that's what it will take. And the answer to your questions is that you can't. The Lightning would have to let walk after his deal is up. All the more reason to not trade your top 2 D prospects, your top fwd prospect and 2 first round picks.

Exit stage left Dorion and Boucher
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>Okay okay, cmon now. I strongly believe there was something else at play here for the Turris deal. Factors include: Either Melnyuk or Turris didnt want to sign or They saw Duchane as a higher end name that could attract people to fill seats so lets do it. I agree that they shouldnt have let Turris go as it compeletly effed chemistry, but I can see why.
That Drouin trade wasn't that bad. Yes, you could have used Serg, and orcould have traded him for for an actual centre, but getting Drouin wasn't bad. I think MB screwed everyone over when he didnt resign Radulov and Markov. Thats what I think the mistake was</div></div>
Radulov was here all year talked more with Dallas then with MTL and i dont blame him
When he got here fans trashed him ,when he struggled in Feburary fans trashed him
by the Time Summer Came around i think he put his family first to avoid a Angela Price Situation like November this year
(the fans started rumors of a divorce some even going as far as to say its their mutual Trainer that told them as if that would happen it was ******** she had to make a public statement for them to **** off)
Markov Dismissed his Agent and made 2 offers stalling all summer so he could go to the olympics and win a gold because at 38 he wanted something tangible to celebrate
the irony is Russia officials but him on the reserve list only if the top athlete choices get rejected so he still isnt going because on big ice in the KHL he looks super old and his
passes get picked off a lot more due to them not having the same snap in transition .
i honestly stick by MB on those he was fucked either way
that being said i think we can both agree its Ownership that needs to leave
they are to involved in the business side compare to the 29 other owners and
its felt from top to bottom their stupidity
case and point MB was going to let Subban go to PHI on offer sheets Molson as President and CEO blocked it
meaning Two firsts, a second and third-round picks in the 2015 NHL draft meaning we could have had Provorov or Werenski ,Koenechy or Larson,Cirelli or Dergachyov ,Debrincat or Girard
i liked Subban but id give up Price for an offer sheet like when he re-signed this year and i love Price.
MTL needs to focus on Depth if we are going to avoid a complete Rebuild and the pitchfork wielding fans.
to me ultimately if you had both owners sell and leave hockey i think the clubs would be better off
