Description
I saw this trade proposed online. Wanted to get thoughts. The background is that the Lightning (Yzerman) will not trade Point or Serg for 2 years of Karlsson. So would this package work for a Senators team that would be in rebuild mode?

Gee, Namestikov is playing first line minutes isn't he? And Palat is on LTIR. Does acquiring Karlsson help THAT much. And to give futures too. Seems like an unnecessary move by the Lightning to me.

Karlsson is a generational talent, him on any team, drastically improves them. Decent payout by lightning in this case where there not giving up too much but still enough to leave Ottawa satisfied. Would be a great move by any team to acquire karlsson.

The Sens would get a better offer than this from somewhere else IMO. Without Point or Sergachev, I don't think the deal gets done.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'd rather have Point and Serg through their 20s then have 2 years of Karlsson.

Not even close for Erik Karlsson any other team could beat this deal even for 1.5 years of Karlsson.

100% agree with you guys. Only way this deal gets done is if Serg and Point are part of the package. If TBL wants quality, they gotta give up quality. Way reality works.

On a side note, TBL window is 2-3 years only anyways. Kucherov will be up and im sure he will follow money else where so why not give up point and serg?

Kucherov has said multiple times that he wants to stay in Tampa and "will not break the bank" when it's time to resign. As for our window, Stamkos, Hedman, are both 28, 27 years old, Vasileskiy, Point, Sergachev and Kucherov are under 25 so I think the Bolts have a little longer than 2-3 years.

Callahan's contract is bad but manageable and his NMC turns into a limited NTC in 2 years when Kucherov's and Point's new contracts will kick in.

I think you'd need to add the 2019 1st and Cal Foote, probably more.
The bigger question is how do you sign everybody in 2 years?

I don't want him then if that's what it will take. And the answer to your questions is that you can't. The Lightning would have to let walk after his deal is up. All the more reason to not trade your top 2 D prospects, your top fwd prospect and 2 first round picks.
hazard a aimé ceci.

On the other hand, having Hedman and Karlsson in your core would be unreal.
Playing them on different lines would allow you to balance their minutes, extending their longevity.
I think adding Karlsson outweighs the "potential" that those prospects carry, and the low 1st rounders wouldn't be missed.
Down the road you could deal another forward to help sign Kucherov.

If Kucherov did infact say that, and will take a pay cut for the TBL, then I absolutely agree, your window is longer then 2-3 years. Its also the reality of the cap. If the wizard known as Yzerman gets them all signed, jeeze. nasty team for a while. as per Callahan, cmon lol, you know in yourself that contract bloody sucks. 6 mill for a 3rd/4th liner.

I don't see them giving up both, but I think one plus a couple prospects is a fairly reasonable option.

Reasonable isn't in OTT's book. They wont accept unless its an overpayment, hence why I said this

Haha Always have to factor in Yzerman. He was able to resign Stamkos, Hedman and Kuch for under 22 million. 3 years ago this site would CRUCIFY anyone who suggested anything under 25 million for those three...yet....here we are! cool
No Callahan is overpriced. He brings great leadership and "intangibles" but not worth the price.

Edit: here is the link where Kucherov's agent says they wont break the bank: https://www.nhl.com/news/nikita-kucherov-wont-try-to-break-the-bank/c-290566818

I feel a lot of people are over valuing Karlsson to a certain extent. From everything I have read this year its a buyers market currently when it comes to trades. There is no way the Lightning give up either Point or Sergachev to get 1.5 years of Karlsson because they most likely wont be able to resign him. Another thing is Ottawa want to rebuild so yes while Point and Serg are the most attractive they can get more by not going asking for these guys.

I think a fair offer from the Lightning would similar to the OP but add Koekkoek.

Namestnikov (RFA Ottawa can use as a top 6 forward during their rebuild)
Koekkoek (NHL ready defenseman who is young and a RFA they can sign)
Hajek (high end D prospect)
Raddysh (high end F prospect)
2018 1st round pick
2019 3rd round pick (goes to first round if Karlsson resigns before the draft)

I actually feel this is a an overpayment but one I could live with. Ottawa would end up with 6 players who they will have control of for a minimum of 5+ years for each going forward. If they want Cal Foote they can have him but dont get Hajek and the conditional 2019 draft pick.
