change of scenery maybe
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aussie_Blackhawk</b></div><div>That would be an interesting move.
I don't see it happening and I'm not entirely sure whats going on with Monahan in Calgary. Why is he on the 4th line? Both players haven't been what they were but Toews is getting back into some rhythm and I doubt we move him.
I caveat all that by saying I wouldn't accept this trade.</div></div>
Monahan had a major hip surgery in the offseason, think about how Seabrook was playing because he needed double hip surgery. He's slowly been regaining his form but Toews at the end of the day is still an upgrade over him.
Would you do say less retention and make it a 1st and a good prospect? (not any of Wolf, Zary, Coronato, or Pelletier. But someone like Francis, Ruzicka, Kuznetsov, Poirier, Gawdin, Heineman)

I think if the rangers offered that, the leafs would kinda have to at very least consider it.

Trade value - Jake Muzzin vs Owen Power
Nobody but a serious cup contender would probs do that or even consider that.
Like pretend Tampa drafted Power, dont think Bris Bois will wait for him to develop and would instead look at him as a trade piece. Thats where Muzzin would come in as with 2 years left Tampa would find a way to make it work then trade for Muzzin and not worry about the consequences as a dcore of
Hedman-Rutta
Mcdonagh-Cernak
Muzzin-Sergechev
pretty much = 3 time champs lul
Now when it comes to Buffalo they are rebuilding so guys like Power are necessary for said rebuild so they dont care rn if hes playing for them or not. Toronto on the other hand is trying to win now so guys like Muzzin are needed for that not guys who need development like Power. So nobody wins in the end as both teams dont meet their objectives.
But in any other situation nobody does that.

Manson value is relatively low. But Rakell’s should be rather high based on his start. I’d have to look at how Amirov is developing but based on reputation yes. Niemela is a solid prospect too who should make the NHL. Ritchie is just a throw in. The ducks would never want him back but the rest is a quality return.

No retention on Dobby and you’ve got a deal, if you convince any other team to retain for us you also have a deal. As long as we don’t retain you can have him.

I like it both would fit better in the others respective roles, tkachuck would add a much-needed grit and marner could become a consistent 100+ point guy with being the main guy on the flames.

Sneaky place for Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>Would Lysell instead of Studnicka do it?
Maybe, but I'm going of what Burke said in a podcast that almost all American athletes have the 7 CDN teams on their NTC/NMC on their list. How many teams is it for NTC? 10?</div></div>
At the moment i believe he has a 10 team. I could see BUF wanting Lysell due to the fact they took Isak Rosen in the 1st round - Rosen and Lysell were really successful together with Sweden in international play. Its such a hard trade to pull off to be honest - i guess we'll see how it all plays out.

Offersheet Mathews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Leafs are in the same boat at UFA signings. Take Marleau as a perfect example. They had to give him a butt load of cash and also add a year for him to sign, and now leafs will pay for next year. TOR and MTL are the highest NHL cities when it comes to taxes (TOR #1, MTL #2). Also add that there is still a large minority of players that have no interest in playing in Canadian markets, and a large majority of players who’d prefer to stay away from media crazy markets (TOR and MTL being the two biggest media coveraged NHL cities)
Before people use JT as an example to say the opposite, he’s one of the rare exceptions. He wanted to play for his childhood team, and left money on the table (as in an 8th year on his contract) to do it.
But yeah if Matthews leaves the leafs, it won’t be MTL, I’ll agree with that. But if TOR don’t sign Matthews before July 1st, yes he will have leverage. ARI offer sheet is almost for sure to happen, and it would be incredibly naive to think otherwise. $14mil+ A year in Arizona (tax free state) is a lot more than just an extra $2mil compared to a $12mil a year in Toronto.</div></div>
I don't think taxes is really an issue at all. Players are incorporated and certainly we are not talking about them paying personal tax rates. We never hear about American players playing for the Raptors or Blue Jays demanding more money to play in Toronto due to taxes.
Yes, I agree with you that Arizona could very well put in an offer sheet. Now that would be leverage for Matthews, because there is real possibility he would sign that offer sheet. I suggested that even a higher offer from a less desirable location than Arizona and Toronto, such as Montreal (that's my assumption) would not really hold leverage.
Agree with you that Matthews and really most players if they have gone this far towards UFA or RFA status, you might as go past July 1st to see what any offers might occur or as you say ,a type of leverage to be used.
I have said it before what I think will happen. Matthews will yes a threat of an offer sheet (whether he has one or not) and used for better TERM for the Leafs. IMO he will get a four or five year contract from the Leafs (thought the Leafs want eight years). So he takes less money 11.5m or 12 m lets say in a four or five year team. Plays for a very good Leafs team and all the benefits of playing with the Leafs and in Toronto. He then is UFA sooner and then he can go to another team maybe the Rangers or Ducks or Chicago or maybe even the Leafs to exploit his commercial value as one of the top players in the NHL.
Regarding your Marleau front loaded contract. It isn't just Marleau. Leafs seem to be doing that with many of their star players. Leafs...(Bell and Rogers) are using their financial power to be able to make this front loaded deals, for a couple of reasons. One reason to so it's an easier trade for a player to a team who will have to put out less money. IMO Nylander is going to have to traded for cap reasons at some time. After July 1, his remaining five years of his 7m cap contract, the money paid is actually is 6.14m per year.

I've said it before, ill say it again. These are the same people that called leaf fans **** for thinking Tavares was going to sign here lol</div></div>
No he's just a Leaf fan hater/baiter. When it comes to the Leafs he just refuses to argue facts or discuss others points of view. When Clark mentioned that Tavares won't even bother to interview with the Habs, he rants about a Leafs loss in Boston.
He used to argue/beg that the Leafs needed to trade for Weber. Not that I think he ever believed anything he wrote, but he just loves being argumentative to Leaf fans. It's his gig on this site.

Lines after Unrealistic Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Hate to break it to you guys, but Leafs are losing one of Matthews/Marner next year. Maybe not to the Isles, but one of them is gone via offersheet next year. Leafs fans suddenly think money doesn't talk in the NHL just because JT chose the Leafs over the Isles and now they expect Matthews/Marner to do the same just because they are Leafs? That's absurd!
While the Leafs may open the vault for Matthews (which they should) they can't and won't do the same for Marner, which means he will be next years Nylander. If the Leafs low-ball Marner because they can't sign both Matthews and Marner to 10+ mil per season deals, some team out there will be willing to spend 10-12 mil on Marner to convince him to sign an Offer Sheet. No team was willing to go that much for Nylander this year, which is the only reason he didn't get an offer sheet.
The irony in all this is that because they "stole" Tavares away from the Isles... Leafs fans, next season, are going to find out exactly how Isles fans felt this past offseason! lol
Oh and against the argument that GMs won't offer sheet for fear or retaliation from other GMs... there has already been speculation that Lou will offer sheet one of them next year, with many saying they would be shocked if he didn't...
AND - Lets not forget TOR has 2 high profile RFAs next year, not just one... If a team offersheets Matthews and he accepts to force TOR hand and they choose to pay him instead of lose him and it puts them in "cap hell" as everyone is calling it... it means Marner knows the Leafs CAN NOT meet his demands. If a team then turns around and offers Marner a deal that exceeds what TOR can offer, you can be sure he's accepting... TOR is in big trouble next year with Matthews AND Marner being RFAs at the same time... and the only ones who haven't realized it yet are Leafs fans.</div></div>
Sorry to break it to you.. but they are not losing them lol. Are Jets losing Laine because anybody would offersheet him? Rantanen?? Oh I would guess so.. geez stop with these ridiculous offersheets. They are not happening. Rantanen has higher chance of offersheet and it is not happening lol

ppl overlook that fact soo much. it was dale tallon who constructed this dynasty. bowman, literally ruined it. his only good trade imo was the andrew shaw trade, because he got debrincat out of that, but they could sure use a guy like shaw right now. tallon was a genius.
