Bruins need help on the right side. Not going to overpay for a left shot when there are cheaper options out there which would perhaps be a better fit for the Bruins.

Don't see Anaheim giving up Zegras for McAvoy if it were a one for one swap, never mind a solid defenseman and a likely very high first for a c prospect and awful Brett Ritchie

Hard to say exactly, as much of it depends on who he plays with as well. He hasn’t been He’s played 3rd line mins all year, up until about 2 games ago where he’s been skating 2nd line with Krejci and DeBrusk, Bjork already has a goal tonight. Hard to put up numbers with Par Lindholm and Sean Kuraly as your consistent centers, and David Backes, Brett Ritchie and Danton Heinen as your consistent co-wingers. Not to mention very little PP time, since the Bruins PP1 is stacked and eats up most of the time whenever they get PP’s.

You talk of his "insane offensive potential", but he's already 23 and will be 24 I the summer when this trade takes place, he's already nearing the end of his offensive prime.
Edmonton isn't going to pay extra for a player just because McDavid can make him into a 20-goal scorer.</div></div>
Fair argument. insane is probably an overstatement. I’ll come back with this
If you have watched the Bruins consistently this year, you’d see that Bjork has been playing excellent hockey. Execution hasn’t always been there, but he makes 3-7 plays every single game that show great offensive potential. It’s not a matter of his age, it’s a matter of him learning how to produce at the NHL level, which will come at time. I refuse to believe a team like the oilers, who need as many offensive wingers as they can, wouldn’t at least consider a 2nd for him.

Im actually a fan of keeping gryz but I don't see it working with the cap. When it comes to keeping Krug or Gryz, im taking Krug, especially while we still have rights over Gryz. Let Lauzon, Vaak, Zboril all see some NHL time so we can figure out what we are working with, over them being career providence players. Even if its a small upgrade, Roslovic helps the right side which we desperately need

Lack of consistency is the exact reason to give him a bridge deal. Let him take a decent chunk of change for a short amount of years and prove what he can really be worth. His lack of consistency so far in his career makes me hesitant to commit to him long term (btw 6 years isn't a bridge deal, its a long term deal).

Yeah I don't really see Sweeney trading Backes either, but this would be the best case scenario I guess. I really dislike the idea of having dead cap when all it will take Is a few picks to get that contract off the books, especially when they are contending and can use the money elsewhere (Free agency, deadline deal, etc.)

Trade Deadline Move for Cup Run
I wouldn’t mind the Bruins going for Saad, but you aren’t going to get rid of Backes in the same deal. Also, the Hawks would need to retain at least a little bit of salary in order to make the trade happen they might be willing to, as he only has 2 more years left on his deal

Cehlarik likely gets scooped on waivers, should he get cut from the bruins at some point this season. If he is playing good and sticks with the big club, then a Bjork trade would make sense. Also, does Frederic not make the team next year? If you can't find room for him on the team next year he may as well be dealt or packaged with a bigger deal at some point as well.

going going gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>It's clearly kicking the can down the road. I have no argument there, I basically stated that. But Boston is in the same mess as the penguins. There isn't much road left right?
2 years in Bergeron is 36. This team does not contend without him as they don't have a 1C anywhere to be found other than him.
Does it matter at that point?
It's clearly a gamble. All trades are. But I think if you are going to go for it, you go for it. With limited help at RW at the deadline and a need there it makes sense if Hornqvist is having a decent year.
Given if Hornqvist totally sucks this year, there is no way this trade ever takes place.
If you get 2 years out of it and a few playoff runs, as opposed to 2 years or backes that brings nothing, it works out well.
Honestly to some extent the penguins might not want to do this. The only reason I do it is it helps speed a full rebuild. Because it's pretty clear that's coming for the penguins if they aren't in the hunt this year.
They probably use the Boston first to dump Backes at the end of the year. Something Boston might have to do anyway. So it comes down to this. Would you rather move him to get help this year, or pay a 1st to move him and get cap space. While the later might sound more appealing, there is a reality that every year the team gets older and the window gets that much smaller. You have to maximize your opportunity. I'm pretty sure we can agree that a healthy Hornqvist having a good season improves the teams chances.
If he helps them win a cup, no matter what the rest of the contract is, it's a win.</div></div>
There are other players that Boston can go after at the deadline, should they be in a situation where they need a rental. Giving up a first for Hornqvist's term makes no sense whatsoever (Even to dump the Backes deal) when there are other forwards on the market they can trade for that will cost less than a 1st. What you're arguing makes sense in theory, why not take the player who can help you win the cup? But, as you said, the Bruins have very little prospect depth at center, and their window closes once Bergeron can't play to his dominant level anymore. Studnicka's ceiling right now looks to be about a good 2nd line center, Frederic 2nd or 3rd line center, Oskar Steen 3rd. Other than that, not much hope. Sweeney won't deal the first with a possibility that the player he chooses could turn into a stud that will be an impactful NHL player by the time the new core (Pastrnak, DeBrusk, Heinen, Bjork, McAvoy, Carlo, Grzelcyk, Vaakanainen) are in their true prime, and the old core (Bergeron, Marchand, Krejci, Chara) has slowly faded out

As a Bruins fan, no thanks to the Hornqvist trade. Although he would help the team now , we'd probably be in a similar position two years from now with with Hornqvist, that we're in now with Backes. From a fan perspective, no thanks. From a front office perspective, I'd rather eat the last 2 years of Backes, Possibly buy him out next summer, or move him at the deadline to a selling team who's tanking next year and would be willing to take his cap on. He also has to waive if the team isn't on his list.

Another Take on the Carlo Offer Sheet Idea
Question for the thread maker though, are you confident the Ducks will do well enough next season where this 1st rounder won't be very high? Don't really follow the Ducks, does Carlo fill a role the Ducks really need, where he becomes worth more than a potential top 15 draft pick?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>They definitely match</div></div>
Most NHL teams would match that, Boston wouldn’t.
A Carlo offer sheet means Boston could most likely lock up McAvoy long term this year. The reason they’re both not signed yet is cause Sweeney wants to see if they can get both guys locked up with the current cap they have now and avoid trading Moore/Miller. 2 firsts next year means they’d likely trade one next deadline, assuming they’re in contention

Arizona Coyotes Season Preview
I think Dvorak is too good of a centreman to put him on the wing, I think The centers should be Stepan, Schmaltz, Dvorak, Richardson. Move Keller to 1LW, Soderberg to 3LW, Vinnie Garland and Fischer will battle all year to secure the spot at 2RW. This team has very solid depth all around though.

Don't hate the idea but not sure if its worth it for the Oilers to give up a 2nd round pick for Toffoli, only because he is on an expiring deal.
