Ben Islanders pt 5

Would something like this work?:

Unfortunately, the isles only top prospects are Raty and Dufour and they can't give one of them up for 1 year of Kane. Would a roster player like Beauviller be good instead? Then CHI doesn't retain?</div></div>
Bolduc and Wilde move the needle even less than Aho and Holmstrom. Plus, we really don't need any more D prospects, but being right handed might help. Honestly, if the NYI's can't give up a Whalstrom, Raty, or Dufour, or a better selection of picks, they shouldn't be targeting Patrick Kane.

I thought yesterday we'd seen the worst Islanders trade ever:

I agree, I think Otto plays before Wahls, Trotz likes his game. I like the idea of Otto playing with Pags and maybe get MDC going since he needs someone feeding him.

I agree that Koivula probably gets the nod before Wahlstrom, Wahlstrom would be the better choice. We need more offense and, while I like Koivula's game, he's not fast enough to keep up with Pageau. Wahlstrom isn't exactly fast, but he can at least keep up and finish Pageau's chances.

Looks pretty ok for 88 I reckon though with Komarov in there I bet they'd want more young talent, I'm lower on the Isles top prospects than most tho
I honestly wonder if a team has ever done something like the Ladd McDonald's plan lol why not honestly
Big Chungus strategy

Trying to be creative
Major credit here I like this a lot. Definitely creative. Think your contracts for Barzal and Pulock are dead on. Not sure which team takes Ladd but what you're sending with him makes sense. Admittedly I don't know anything about LA's needs but if they're okay with the swap it's great on our end and your logic is sound. Only change I would make is swapping Wahlstrom in for Bellows, and having Carter play LW so Wahlstrom stays comfortable on the right side.

A perfect finish to the offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gortonsfishsticks27</b></div><div>He's not as critical as he's making him out to be. You'd think this guy is related to Toews with how obsessed he is at overrating him on this website.
Is he good and a top 4 dman? Yes.
Is he critical to the isles success? No.
On the isles defensive depth chart, he's at fourth behind pelech, pulock, dobson. If isles were presented an opportunity to package him with someone for a top-line guy I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Would Buffalo be open to trading either Olofsson or Reinhart for Toews+?</div></div>
Probably not this offseason, but maybe next. It would depend on the situation with Hall and Cozen's development. We would probably rather offer draft picks and guys like Mittelstadt, Ryan Johnson (LD, 2019 31st overall pick), or Samuelsson (LD, 2018 32nd overall pick), but I'm not sure that would enticing enough

Considering you guys need to let people go, probably a 2nd or 3rd. Not a second this year.

Would CGY be interested in varlamov
Varley and Eberle can't be moved this year anyways. They both have full no trade clauses. After the season the Islanders just had I don't think either of them would waive it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gortonsfishsticks27</b></div><div>Would Min consider taking a contract back like Hickey or retaining salary? This deal looks good, isles just can't handle the increased cap of Parise which is why it wouldn't go through.</div></div>
The Wild would take another player if you need more cap relief. We've got the space. But I don't think we'd retain salary on Parise. He's still got scoring in him where Ladd is a cap dump.

Next season needs the young guns
To be real, with Trotz this lineup could go all the way cause he seems to succeed regardless, but that is a lot of wingers that are relied upon that are rookies, + your starting goalie. Dobson is an absolute stud so no worries about him especially playing alongside a smart defenceman. If Wahlstrom can step into that role this season, the Islanders could very well be a cup contender next year.

The 2020 Buffalo pick is enticing, but I'd rather keep Kesler on LTIR instead of taking that Boychuk cap hit.

Isles core Belmont year because thats what matters
I have my worries about Ladd hitting LTIR. Boychuk may cost a first to move. Not really the point but things that stuck out.
What I feel really lacks here is a pure goal scorer. Brock has been on fire and a guy who can fill that role but the team needs another to play alongside barzy. Lee gets goals but isn't a dynamic goal scorer. Bailey has incredible value right now and I think trading him for a goal scorer may be a great fit. Unless Bellows, Whalstrom or Holstrom pans out.
Also gotta see who Seattle takes. Obviously won't be a core guy but we could pay them to take a contract or two and be able to sign a UFA

IMO pulock is too important to trade for connor. Sorry.</div></div>
I understand I wouldn’t do it from your teams point of view either. It will be interesting to see how you guys clear cap space that’s for sure!

Cap dump to NJD based on NJD trade I saw here
Devils fan, here. I think this could happen solely because they're getting Bailey in it, who could be extremely effective on Hughes' wing. Leddy would be a decent bottom pairing LD, and Ladd stays on LTIR or gets bought out. They give up nothing for it. Could definitely work on both ends.

Leddy is a bit expensive for what the Jets need. I don't think they would want to pay 5.5 for a vet LD.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slapshot723</b></div><div>I really don't want Frans back, even at that price. We just have no need for him. Koivula can take his spot after this season, we just need a 3C with an expiring contract for this season. He's also the most overrated player in Islander history.</div></div>
I'd agree with all of this, but you're overlooking that this would get us out of Ladd's contract. I'd much rather overpay Frans for the next 3 years than overpay Ladd for the next 4 years. Sure, Nielsen was overrated, but he's an ideal 3rd line Center.
Not sure if Winnipeg would do that trade. But it can't be far off. Top 4 defenseman, future middle six winger and future middle pairing Power Play QB? Not a bad package. I'm sure Jets fans would hate it, but I like this idea a lot. Well done. Only thing I'd change is I'd switch Bailey with Ho-Sang. Beau and Frans are great defensive forwards who can still shoot, those are exactly the kind of skaters I want surrounding Ho-Sang.
