Yea, I'll admit what I put is a bit of an overpay. He has been playing fairly well as of late so it's not completely overboard.

I would say an addition of a midround pick or low B/C-tier prospect. Could also see Leafs moving on from Robertson instead of shipping out a handful of picks.

I'm going in with the assumption that Rags are going to acquire a winger to replace Kakko in a separate deal anyways, so he'd be moving out to fix the logjam.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jonas_Seagull</b></div><div>Can the Leafs get retention or is that too big of an ask?</div></div>
I could see retention being possible, but the cost would likely increase by a bit, due to Jensen having term on his contract.

I don't see how that is even possible for them. What prospects/picks do they have to cobble a deal together? The ask is multiple 1sts/A level prospects.

Rags are going to overpay on a center this deadline. They're reportedly in on Henrique but may not have the cap space to make that work. Dowd at that price would garner a comparable return.

I'd argue otherwise but agree to disagree. Tampa needs defensive help, whether from the Caps or someone else, but don't have the assets to go after a Hanifin or another top dman at the deadline

Caps Start of Season Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>Can't see a world in which Malenstyn pushes out Protas or where Mantha gets scratched. I know there's a lot of upset people right now with Mantha but to play devils advocate, having one bad preseason game (after previously having a good one) with the B team is not cause for scratching him, and scratching him isn't going to fix his problems, he needs to be on the ice for that. I do like keeping Haman-Aktell up quite a lot, I hope he gets some time this year to show off his skill in the regular season. Personally, I think it will likely end up along the lines of:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Wilson
McMichael-Kuznetsov-Mantha
Milano-Strome-Oshie
NAK/Malenstyn-Dowd-Protas</div></div>
Malenstyn is the perfect 4th liner for the Capitals. While I do believe that Protas deserves to stay with the NHL team, he does need to develop a little bit more. Phillips will 100% not clear waivers and deserves to be with the team. When it comes down to players, Protas is waiver exempt and that's why he'll be sent down. Mantha should perform better in this new system and I'm not that low on him. He just seems like a decently obvious choice along with Milano for a middle six healthy scratch to get Phillips/Miro games.

I feel like Flyers could probably net an additional mid round pick for JvR, considering the retention.

Caps are not trading Wilson, and if they were, you'd need a lot more than that, especially asking for retention

Caps retool beginning
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>Apparently Drury and Kravs already agreed that he is coming over early for training camp. It’s sounds more like everything is good rather than the popular comments on here about him refusing to play for NYR. Lars isn’t under 2M cap hit so we really don’t have space.</div></div>
The trade really is dependent on NYR front office and how they feel about Kravs. Also I think the Caps would be willing to retain some on Eller's contract and downgrade the pick they're giving up. Also keep in mind that Rangers may be unable to bring back Strome/Copp and will likely need more affordable options down the middle/in depth. Eller provides more offensive production than most in the Rangers bottom 6 and is defensively reliable.

Caps retool beginning
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>delneggs</b></div><div>Chytil is not a 2C. Its Strome or Copp. Eller is going to be 34 and carries way to high a cap hit for the Rangers. The Rangers 3C will be Goodrow or Chytil next season so zero need for Eller.</div></div>
That is if the Rangers are able to bring either back. Both will likely garner a ton of interest in free agency. Also you're discounting Eller's production and 2-way game. With the players the Rangers have now, Eller would probably be the 1st or 2nd best player in their bottom six.

Caps retool beginning
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>delneggs</b></div><div>How do you figure the Rangers need depth? Bottom 6 forwards include: Chytil, Blais, Goodrow, Motte, Hunt, Reaves, Rooney, Gauthier and Brodzinski. 9 guys for 6 spots. Plus they have several guys in the AHL that will be competing for a spot next season.</div></div>
Lars Eller was more productive than all those players minus Goodrow. I'm sorry but those depth players lack much offensive strength, even compared to Eller. Also take into account that Rangers may be unable to bring back Strome, in which case Chytil centers line 2 and Eller fits in as a perfect line 3 center, who is more than capable of being bumped up due to injury or performance.

The question is if Rangers would make moves that put Kravtsov in the lineup. I'm not saying Eller is better than him, just that Eller fits the mold better. With how the Rangers are built, I feel that they'd be more inclined to play Eller than Kravtsov. Kravtsov is already pissed off at the organization and there's a chance he may not even play for them.

I think a tandem of Vanecek/Skinner would be more than serviceable. Let's be real, Mike Smith is going to fall off and has injury concerns. It'd be better to move from him now than let him fall apart and the team scramble in the future

That may be true, but Kuzy is also older and more expensive. Calgary wouldn't agree to a one for one. It's not too much of a price to pay to sweeten the deal at least and I think both sides will be happy with it.

Benson has had multiple stellar years in the AHL. His potential is enough to protect him over Kassian and Archibald. He has the talent to be a solid middle six forward. Even though he hasn't yet broken through doesn't mean he won't. He's definitely worth taking a chance on.

Still, you don't acquire a good player like McCann just to leave him exposed. The best case scenario for the leafs is that the Kraken takes Dermott, however, there's a lot of good defensemen out there that I would personally rather take.
