New Jersey Devils 2024 Offseason Discussion Thread #1
Eliotte Friedman <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">32T</a>:
"The word on New Jersey is they want to take a big swing. They want to see if there is a big swing they can take out there. Obviously, John Cooper and/or Mike Sullivan would be as big of a swing as you can take, and Craig Berube is obviously right there, as I previously mentioned."

Another Rossi Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>I have consistently said Guhle is worth a top 10 pick and they shouldn’t move him. But using the Dach deal, he was acquired by trading away a promising young dman</div></div>
That being said, and following your line of thinking if Guhle is moved, shouldn't it be for a player of a higher caliber than the Dach / 13th overall deal? Sure, Rossi was 9th overall 4 years ago, but I don't think anyone (including MIN fans) think he's still worth anywhere close to a top 10 pick.

Another Rossi Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Plenty of other LD option to consider moving before ever getting to the point of considering Guhle. Would rather Matheson or any of the other LD prospects (aside from Hutson), before Guhle. Rossi falls in the same boat as a Dach/Newhook move imo... Guhle would be in a tier above.</div></div>
The gap between Rossi and (no one) is probably larger than Guhle and Hunt over the long run.
But that makes sense. I think Morgan Frost would give most of what Rossi could…and is likely cheaper.

Oh I'd still consider Romanov a top 4 Dman, not sure about the whole being worth 13th overall or better though. Same as I wouldn't consider Dach being worth 13th overall anymore because he can't stay healthy.

If we move marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJTM</b></div><div>We don’t. There’s no room for another big money forward on the devils, there are four already. That’s an expensive price to pay for a one year rental who has a history of being difficult on contract negotiations. That’s not a problem id like the devils to inherit. They have to extend both Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec in the next 26 months. There’s no room to fit Mitch Marner in there too.</div></div>
Thanks for this. Over the years we have this silly posts where a high priced player is traded to a team (in this case New Jersey). But do we ever see the post of the team receiving the high priced player....rarely.

If Holtz is playing in top-6…he definitely should be on Left side. And all else equal, I might put him with right-handed center, maybe Poitras.

Draft and next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>Too much from NSH. Askarov should be worth more than NJ's 1st. He was drafted essentially in that same spot (11OA), has met/exceeded expectations since leaving Russia, and will contribute to his NHL team long before a 2024 pick will.
I like Casey, but NSH's 1st and Pärssinen is way too much for him.</div></div>
Personally, i think the value is about even.... BUT id rather have Askarov than Saros in Nashville so that automatically kills the trade for me anyways. I personally think Parssinen is gonna top out as a Sissons replacement and i really like Casey.
Also with how Daws and Schmid has stuggled in New Jersey, i dont think theyd gamble on another unknown NHL quantity.

Nemec is a MUCH better asset than Hellebuyck, especially considering Helle has consistently struggled in the playoffs.
You cannot just "replace him" as you ignorantly say. Nemec is THE best defensive prospect

Leafs Next Year
Too much for the devils on a one year rental of Mitch Marner. Marner has a history of being difficult in contract negotiations. Not really willing to part with any package of substance to inherit that kind of problem.

Leafs Next Year
At least 2 of the 5 pieces with most value in that Marner trade come from the Devils side of things (Mercer and #10).
I would think that Marner, between his cap hit and NMC, would fetch something closer to what Taylor Hall went for when traded to Boston a few years back - 2nd + roster player / prospect.

Bye Demko Hello Silovs
I can't tell if this is supposed to be satire but moving on from your vezina nominee goaltender who is signed to 5 million a year just because a 23rd year old 6th round pick had an ok game might be the worst idea in Canucks history with all due respect. This move would take the Canucks tandem from being top 3 to bottom 5

He's not better than Jack Hughes and it has more to do with the fact that he's going to demand being paid as a top 5 player while being a no show in the playoffs every year

If I were to move Holtz
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Just circling back.
What would need to be added in your eyes to a simple Holtz for Fehevary swap to make it fair?</div></div>
I think you were pretty close with what you said above. Holtz + 3rd is ok to me. That 10th OA is really interesting to me though with the shortage of high end prospects in the organization so I would much rather do the full package.
What’s Holtz ceiling in your opinion? And how likely is it that he reaches it? And why would the Devils be ready to move him?
