Right! Imagine how intense it would be if canes and rangers played each other in the playoffs with this deal on the table!

LOL in all seriousness. I do like Suzuki, and would be interested in seeing him in Carolina long-term as the 2C behind Aho. I guess that's more or less what Montreal was thinking all those years ago haha!

Probably is. Trying to challenge myself. I thought maybe the upside of Vatrano + Henrique for the playoffs would be better than just having current Necas.

Not the nashville trade youre expecting
I would argue from Nashville's perspective that Necas and Forsberg are on pretty similar footing if not better for Nashville. Timing is everything in this league, Nashville is most likely going to need a rebuild or at least a retool as they wallow in Cap hell for at least the next two years (realistically 3). By that time, Forsberg will be a power forward on the wrong side of 30 with an $8.5 Mil salary. Alternatively, Necas would be a 27-28 year old prime finesse forward with excellent goal scoring and playmaking ability who has had a couple years experience in the system and is ready to help Nashville set up for a playoff push. Furthermore, he is also able to contribute to the team in his current form without any investment. I would argue that if Nashville currently had Necas and Canes currently had Forsberg, if the Canes were to offer Nashville a 1 for 1 swap of Forsberg for Necas that Nashville would say no for the reason I just showed above.
Alternatively for the Canes, while I love Necas, his play style simply does not compliment Rod's system, and I believe his talent is being squandered in NC. In the right environment, I could see Necas reaching as high as 90 points being truly one of the most explosively fast players in the NHL. At this point, I believe a talent like Forsberg would be a better compliment to Carolina's system, and given our position of being in a "win now" mode, we'd be willing to take on the risk of what is going to be the serious downside of the back-half of Forsberg's contract.
The true point of debate is the Novak for KK, Antti Raanta (correctly identified as a cap dump), and pocket change of picks and prospects. I thought it was pretty close to fair value, but I'd be willing to throw a bit more at this side of the deal to make it work out. Let me know your thoughts.

Sounds like a figure it out later situation. His value will not change between now and the offseason.</div></div>
That's why I definitely wanted to cite my sources on this. I think it would be crazy, but then again, if you don't ask it won't happen either way, so may as well take the shot. I do think that in many ways this would be kind of a "hockey trade" too.

I wish that was the price for Ek, but it's not. I doubt most MN fans will even agree to this trade, but it's a trade I don't think any other team would be able to match. I don't need any of these guys to say yes as long as my Billy G says yes :)

If that's the case then I guess it is no deal. The entire concept of the deal was predicated around the idea that the Wild would be willing to commit to a rebuild. If they aren't then no offer I could give would ever be worth it because we'd never be willing to give up current assets. Oh well :/

I'm adding a 2nd to my original offer and replacing Suzuki with Drury. If the Wild would want to rebuild, this is an incredible offer. The FV of this deal far exceeds what you would get by keeping JEE now. I want JEE for cap stability and playoff push for the next several years. I know you can always keep JEE, but at what point is it just better to accept the best offer for a valuable asset and commit to the rebuild? I'd be impressed if another team beats the offer of Nikishin, Drury, 2024 1st, 2025 1st, and 2024 2nd. You're call. No skin off my bones either way :)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Contrary to the comments here.. this isn’t enough.
You’re asking for an elite 2way centre with 6 years left on his contract and arguably the beta cap hit in the league. You’ve offered a B+ prospect in Morrow, likely 2 late 2st round picks, a 2nd, a bottom 6 forward in Drury, and a bust of prospect in Suzuki that likely never plays in the NHL. That doesn’t get you Eriksson Ek.
You’ve gotta include at least 1 young roster forward with top 6 potential - so either Necas or Jarvis. A top prospect (Morrow covers that), and then likely a 1st and another conditional 1st.
Necas + Morrow + 1st + 2nd (conditional to a 1st)</div></div>
The whole point of this trade was to go deep for playoff run. I get how good JEE is, but giving up good players right now is not on the table. If you were to ask for more picks or prospects, I'd honestly wheel and deal a bit. My point is that is Minnesota really in a position to say no if they were handed this offer here, let's say I even change the 2nd to a conditional first for 2026 which you could probably talk me into doing. So the offer would be Drury, Morrow, Suzuki, and potentially 3 first rounders. Despite what you're saying, I don't think a smart Minnesota management would say no to that. What do you think?

Why Burns? Honestly I thought Drury would be a more attractive piece than Burns because he's young. Burns is one of the oldest players in the NHL right now, and while he is still really good, I doubt he's the difference to put Minnesota in contention to win a cup. Not trying to pick a fight, just want to understand your opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>The package you're offering should be more than enough, but for MIN to consider moving JEE they'd have to evaluate the entire direction of their franchise. Are they going to do a full rebuild? Even if they frame it as a quick 'retool' does it risk alienating a guy like Kaprizov? It's a big deal for them as they've got nobody even close to replacing what Ek does.</div></div>
Yeah that's a good point. For the sake of my deal I hope they'd be willing to commit to a larger rebuild as then I believe an offer like this would be VERY attractive. And I agree about JEE that's why I'm willing to pay the moon for him haha! I think that having JEE as our 2C behind Aho could be one of the last pieces needed to truly push the canes over the top for that Stanley Cup run.

I'm a canes fan, and I'm starting to warm up to the idea. The real question is what it would take to get him resigned. We're not going to be giving up Necas for a rental is what I think it comes down to. What do you think it would take to resign him?

If Canes took a shot on Laine it would be a lowball offer because everyone else passed and Columbus doesn't want him anymore. This is not a lowball price. And for those reasons I'm out.
