Finally some luck
Edmonton declines. If they trade Campbell it's for cap space, not to take on a worse contract.
They could keep Campbell ($3.8M) and re-sign Pickard ($1M) for less money than Merzlikins, and they would have better goaltending and a 3rd round pick.

Reclamation Types
Broberg will replace Kulak in the off season, Broberg just had one of the best seasons in the AHL as far as defensemen go.
Holloway is a keeper, a sub 1M player that looks to be ramping up his game.

Holloway has dealt with a ton of unlucky injuries and has been so great for us in the playoffs so far, Broberg also has been doing great in the AHL. As stated by <a href="/users/Bluetomorrow83" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Bluetomorrow83</a> we are up against the cap pretty hard next year meaning we are going to be relying on Broberg and Holloway to fill key depth (or for Holloway potentially top 6 if he keeps this up) spots for cheap.
Only way I can see either being moved is in a larger package for TK or Sanheim which Philly won't want to do

Unlikely Oilers move either prospect they need sub 1M roster players next year with the 3.5M in bonus carryover. Holloway has also been quite good since his recall and Broberg was good in the AHL just had Ekholm, Nurse and Kulak as LD in front of him.

Blackwood sucks.
Campbell + 1st + 3rd is about right for Kostin, so that means the Oilers are sending Holloway for Blackwood? Easy no from Edmonton.

Personally, I think that you've taken what we've consistently said and are mis-characterizing it in your own mind. We've always been very specific and never used the words "top forward" or "top RhD prospect." Specifically, we've listed three possible formulations for a Zegras trade: (1) Slavkovsky; (2) the Montreal first and a top forward prospect like Beck or Mesar; and (3) Reinbacher and your 2025 second. I don't ever recall any of us mentioning Suzuki (why in the world would we need a center?!?) or saying "the Jets first and a top 4 RhD prospect." What I recall MY saying was that we would take Reinbacher and the Jets first in response to this very proposal (Barron and the Jets pick). Finally, it's absolutely untrue than any of us have ever said we'd trade Zegras for Caufield.</div></div>
I feel for you guys. These Habs fans don't stop. What's even worse it's the same ones everyday. It wouldn't be so ridiculous if it was new people that aren't active on here often, but it's active members doing it every single day.

Markstrom
Cory Schneider was 27 when he was traded, and posted a .927, .929, and .937 save percentages the three years before he was traded.
Markstrom is 34 if he is traded this offseason, and has had .892, .905, and .922 save percentages the past three years.
I don't see the comp at all?
Perhaps a better comp would be Marc-Andre Fleury to the Wild
Flower was 36 when he was traded. He had posted .905, .908, and .928 save percentages the three years prior. The return was a conditional second that become a first if Minnesota made the conference finals and Fleury had 4 wins in the first two rounds.
Or Cam Talbot to Ottawa for Filip Gustavvson
Talbot was 34 at the time of the trade and had recorded .911, .915, and .919 save percentages the previous three years. Gustavvson was a recent second round draft pick. I don't know team's prospect pools well enough to give a comparable player, but let's assume it's a second.
The market rate for good, aging goalies seems to be right around a second. Not a top 10 pick or a team's best prospect.

Edmonton definitely rejects that San Jose deal. Blackwood is a subpar backup, they aren't moving Kane and retaining (!!) for him. They could get a better backup for less money in free agency.
Ceci is worth more than 4th + 5th and Campbell requires at least a 1st attached to move his contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cty102</b></div><div>I just used Edmonton as the first team I could find that could use another goalie and would have a bad goalie contract to trade in return. Jarry is absolutely a 1B at worst and he really wasn't that injury-prone this season. He was doing quite well (~15-20 range) UNTIL the team fell apart around the trade deadline. Also, supposedly one of the main reasons he didn't start the last 13 games is because he stared down Marcus Pettersson for like 5 seconds in the Dallas game on March 22 after a puck got deflected by him and went in and it caused some locker room issues. He's a prime change of scenery candidate.
And for Edmonton, this would give them with a goalie room costing $9.9M. Right now it's $6.45M with Skinner and Campbell's buried $3.85M so they'd need to grab another NHL-caliber goalie. Do you think you can find another goalie to be Skinner's 1B for less than $3.5M?</div></div>
They already have: Calvin Pickard. The current thinking is that Pickard will be re-signed and then he and Rodrigue will compete for the backup role.

That's probably what happens. I would rather retain and kick in a 2nd as it's cheaper in the long run (the buyout isn't great after year 1) but I certainly wouldn't take back the Jarry contract.
Any disposition of the Campbell contract is for cap space, they aren't going to retain $2M PLUS Jarry's $5.4M when Campbell is only costing $3.8M right now.

turn it around while getting younger
Edmonton has no intention of taking on MORE cap hit for the cost of a very good young defenseman + 1st + 2nd. The whole point of moving Campbell would be to save money.
Look at it this way: they could keep Campbell in the minors ($3.85M) and re-sign Pickard ($1.5M) for the same price as Jarry ($5.35M). They would have better goaltending, a 1st, a 2nd, and Broberg - win, win, win, win.
Oilers decline.

I've seen the trade enough times that I feel the need to ask: what is the logic behind the Eller to EDM trade? They have more than enough Cs and are too tight to the cap to really commit another 2.4mil to a guy that ends up playing 4C for them.

Vegas Golden Knights signed Noah Hanifin (8 Years / $7,350,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>This contract is a pretty good example on how tax advantage is much smaller than most people think given his offer in CGY was for 7.5. Like yeah it totally exists but it isnt really anything to get antsy about and claim it to be a massive factor. 0.15M is roughly the gap.</div></div>
This doesn't make sense. The tax advantage is substantial and much more than $150k.
The difference for Hanifin each year making $7.35M in Vegas vs. Calgary is $640k take home:
Vegas (taxed at 38.9% from https://www.talent.com/tax-calculator?salary=7350000&from=year&region=Nevada): $7.35M -> $4.49M take home
Calgary (taxed at 47.6% from https://ca.talent.com/tax-calculator?salary=7350000&from=year&region=Alberta): $7.35M -> $3.85M take home
If Hanafin stays all 8 years in Vegas, the total take home difference between signing in Vegas vs. Calgary is $5.12M. This would mean Hanafin would have to play over 9 years in Calgary to take home the same earnings as he does in 8 years in Vegas.
