FED UP WITH DOLAN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>Yes and no. They won't give him term. max 3 years for him and hes going to want more money than his 1.35 he made this year. maybe 1.5-1.75 for 3 years?</div></div>
For three years I would not think a raise, more like 3@1.25. The comments by Motte at the end of the season and the beat writers' comments as well make me think they already have a deal done but are pulling a Lou and not announcing until the last moment. If that is so then probably on the lower end too.

Cup checklist
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>Thank you for the outline. I don't have a subscription, but it seems like this one may have been a decent read.
You're for sure spot on with a lot of things. The Rangers have a good team, but the young Dcore hurts with experience as some guys are still trying to find their way. Miller is great but he still needs to show that consistency into next year. All hail Fox, but he is a terrible skate IMO and it really showed in the ECF/against Carolina when the better skating teams came to play. Trouba is fine, not worth his money IMO, but he leads the backend. Lindgren is a tool shed and you know what you will get out of him every night. Schneider still needs time and play a full season. 5/6 D now needs to be refilled and Braun/Nemeth are not the guys to do it. I am not sure what they are going to do with Nemeth (maybe just bite the bullet and buy him out), but they need a more than capable 3rd pairing Dman to help Schneider and play more of a defensive role. Unfortunately you can't bring up one of the young guys, they will need to find a steady eddy 3rd pairing guy on the UFA market.
Chytil i disagree with you on all levels. I have said this since the Rangers drafted him and I don't like him as a player at all. He is super inconsistent, goes on major scoring droughts, doesn't produce, loses assignments in the Dzone on a nighly basis, and sometimes just runs around with his head cut off. Yah he works hard and YES IK he had a "Decent" playoff (half his goals were awful and should have never happened. I know this doesn't matter because a goal is a goal), but he was also a -2. He had one 20 game stretch where he played a somewhat consistent game and everyone that I have seen is in love with him and say he needs to be 2C. IMO he is a 3C at best and the Rangers need to find a 2C on the market. If they don't do that and make him 2C, they will be in trouble because of the things listed above and the sheer fact that he is atrocious in the faceoff circle (He is a winger as I have said since day 1).
Sorry to rain on the parade, I think you did a great job explaining everything and I agreed with most of what you said, but those two things were questionable. Other than that, I enjoyed the read for sure.</div></div>
I definitely agree with you on the Chytil thing. He does have moments where he looks almost elite, but I question his ability to be a cup caliber 2C. that's the main problem I have with signing Kane, it blocks us from filling the main hole in the lineup. J.T. Miller would be perfect, and outside of him, I can only see three options on the market. Trochek, Malkin, and (I know this ones a long shot) Giroux.

I Guess Realistic what they do
If Chytil is moved to #2C, then a solution along these lines works. If Chytil is #3C, you have about $5M to find a #2C in the UFA market and not much free CAP SPACE.

Canucks would probably take him for our third line centre if we give you a 3rd and your 4th plus any other prospect you need.

What I have seen on numerous Sites
Unless Othmann absolutely lights it up in preseason and his first 8 games, he’s playing another season in the CHL. Simply just because long term cap advantage of his deal sliding a second year. Cuylle is in the same boat but is AHL eligible. Rangers will sign some fill in for the year. The real go for it year isn’t the upcoming one, but the year after.

Eichel Trade Realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>I mean, if you want Chytil, by all means, take him lol. I don't think he is all that good tbh as he's just a big center that will stay the same (20pts) his whole career. We will see what happens as I honestly don't know if I Eichel is great defensively, but Buffalo was so bad that you can't really tell tbh. I tried to be as realistic as possible, but I know the Rangers will end up spending that much because the price will go down from Buffalo in a hurry to sell, then a bidding war will come in and the price will go back to its original because of the teams in it.</div></div>
I actually doubt at this point the Sabres will hurry at all. This will, at this point, likely drag into the season if we allow him to have his surgery or even more likely have him sent out west for a A+ tier prospect, a 1st and cap dump of some kind.
To be frank, I pray that Eichel isn't traded to the Rangers because it would be infuriating that Drury who stood us up in 07 would be poaching our 1C all these years later. Plus I'd want tampering charges investigated due to the relationship between Drury and Peter Fish, his former agent and Eichel's present one.

NYR Offseason plan based off rumors
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>Rangers have plenty of center depth but not NHL ready depth and that is the current issue, so a Dvorak would be a better trade where they are also possibly looking for not only a potential back-up goalie, but a goalie that can run with it and become a starter in GEO. There would have to be other pieces there, but Dvorak would make a great 2C and help out that depth the Rangers have not had in while.</div></div>
I also am thinking dvorak and monahan are nyr best options currently for 2nd line. Eichel because its fun for hype trades but for what NYR have monahhan and dvorak makes the most sense cap sense wise.

Why would AZ send picks when they're tearing things down? That doesn't make much sense. Neither does giving up assets to acquire one year of Strome.

the real reason they bought out shattenkirk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>LOL SAVE MONEY???? What?! Please Look at this again:
Shattenkirk, Kevin
Year 1: $1,483,333 = Savings of: $5,166,667
Year 2: $6,083,333 = Savings of: $566,667
Year 3: $1,433,333 = Savings of: $5,166,667
Year 4: $1,433,333 = Savings of: $5,166,667
Yes, they are saving $5,000,000+, but next they will be cap crunched for another 4 years no matter what because of the two big signings: Trouba/Panarin.
Staal, Marc
Year 1: $2,900,000 = Savings of: $2,800,000
Year 2: $3,700,000 = Savings of: $2,000,000
Year 3: $1,200,000 = Savings of: $4,500,000
Year 4: $1,200,000 = Savings of: $4,500,000
Smith, Brendan
Year 1: $970,833 = Savings of: $3,379,157
Year 2: $3,145,833 = Savings of: $1,204,167
Year 3: $1,145,833 = Savings of: $3,204,167
Year 4: $1,145,833 = Savings of: $3,204,167
The only year they save on Shattenkirk compared to other buyouts is his first year and that is only against Staal. If they bought out Smith, then they would have saved the most money out of all of them based on their salary in each of their contracts. The only reason they bought him out is because they got Trouba, Fox, and soon to be Deangelo who are more than willing to run a powerplay. Shattenkirk was brought here for two reasons: 1. Powerplay (since the Rangers had the worst powerplay the season before) 2. Offensive ability (Since they had no offensive ability on the backend, they needed someone to quarterback the offensive side of things). These are the only reasons that this was the case. He had an unfortunate run as a Ranger and I feel bad for him because he is a very good player. He was hurt for half of his first year, and his second year he only had half the off season to train since the injury from the previous year resulted in surgery.</div></div>
They aren't saving money on year 3 and 4 of those buyouts, it's costing them something compared to a contract that would otherwise be over and done.

NYR 19-20
If the market wasn't tight as a clam right now, I'd say each move is reasonable...if anything,I think (in a normal market) the Names and Strome trades are low balls...the Smith trade might need a little sweetening...a 3rd and 4th to take 8.75M in salary (over 2 years) probably needs an upgrade in the picks and/or inclusion of a prospect.

NY Ranger 19-20 Part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>These numbers are all based on rumors I have heard and seen since the draft. The sharks are a bit different because they are in a win now mode and they have the rep of making sure they can sign their bridge deal guys low and then pay them in their big contracts. They have been doing that since Pavelski and Thorton came to the team back in the day so the Sharks are different than most.</div></div>
I'm not criticizing your numbers...definitely in line with what everyone else is putting out there (including me)...it just seems that if there is a team that needs to low ball 1 or 2 contracts...its the Rangers...once those guys hit UFA years they are going to look to bang the Rangers for as much as they can irregardless of what they are paid now...its all about the leverage...smart teams manage to buy out some UFA years by paying heavier up front...neither Lemieux nor ADA really warrant that because both still need to prove they are NHL players, let alone players deserving of a big commitment.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>Doughty. Karlsson is hurt and basically damaged goods. He is no doubt easily the best offensive defenseman in the game still, but for that contract, absolutely not. On the other hand, Doughty, though he isn't as great offensively, he has great defensive skills and is a great puck moving defenseman that joins the rush when he can. It sad that LA was not great last year because they are eating away at his career.</div></div>
Yeah I agree. The thing with Doughty is except for last year even when the Kings are bad he still gets a 50+ point season. So you still get offense and 50 is a great number for a defenseman and to have his defensive game too is all the better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aastorino1993</b></div><div>I 100% agree with you. Ottawa at this point needs someone that gives them a veteran presence on the back-end. So maybe a 5th and a 3rd (MIN) for that. The Rangers are good with their draft picks and have plenty of them, as long as they manage them well and don't give up their 1st or a 2nd. I just don't think the Rangers should use this buyout window for anyone because that would make the have to move another contract. I do agree with you though. Thank you for your input.</div></div>
Ottawa will probably end up being a difficult team to put a deal together with...obviously, their obligation is to their franchise and their fan base...not to let every other team off the hook for their own cap obligations...of course that is stating the obvious- but the fact that so many teams are scrambling to get under the cap- they can simply ramp up the value of the cap space they are providing (like CAR did w/ TOR)...if the Rangers can put together a deal with Ottawa that is mutually beneficial then I am all for it...but including 1st or 2nd rounders (unless premium talent is coming back with the cap space) is a non starter. In the end the Rangers will probably have to buy out at least 1 player (Smith makes most sense) and may also have to trade off a player at less than actual value...or include a prospect who is near NHL ready (we have a few D who fit this).

Like your idea, but packaging a 5th with Smith is not nearly enough to entice this dump...look at Toronto- had to give up a 1st to move Marleau- a player who most would admit has much more value on the ice and in the locker room than Smith- who has 8.7M still owed to him (Marleau had only 1 year at just over 6M)
