Rangers 2023-24
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I admit offer sheets don't happen much, but 4.3m offer sheet might either LAF or Miller to sign one. There is big cap between what the Rangers can afford and what these players can afford. So let's can over the illusion the Rangers can match for both players. There really isn't much logic that any team on Goodrow's trade list.....that has cap, is willing to take on full contract.
15 teams are actually over the cap this season due to bonuses and can't afford the full cap.</div></div>
Again, no one uses offer sheets sans the Habs and Canes who were in a pissing contest with the Canes winning. Laf had a horrendous post season and didn’t have a great regular season until the end. If someone was to offer sheet him I’d be extremely surprised. I expect Laf to take a 2 year bridge for 2.35-2.5 million. Miller on the other hand is the player a team may be willing to try and offer sheet, but if someone does I expect Drury to match it, then he will have to trade someone he doesn’t want to (Kakko, Chytil, Lindgren). In a league where GMs don’t want to piss each other off I don’t see it happening. As far as Goodrow, on the right team in a 3rd line role he’s fine and paid appropriately. Rangers had too much skill in the top 9 and paying that much for a 4th line center is absurd. Drury has done extremely well in trades other than the Buch trade, I don’t think he will have as much difficulty moving Goodrow as some think. Goodie could easily be packaged with a prospect like Grubbe or Jones to get a decent return. This isn’t Patrick Nemeth we are talking about.

no trades necessary
No way Goodrow gets bought out, you saw what Drury packaged to get rid of Nemeth and he had no value. Goodrow will be traded for a return or don’t be surprised if Drury packages him with Grubbe or Jones to get some draft picks this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Low offers on LAF and Miller could be subject to offer sheets. Again Ranger fans are so intent that Goodrow waives his M NTC to non playoff team and any team wants his contract</div></div>
Goodrow has a 15 team no trade, impossible to know if he prefers playoff bound teams or a location where he and his family would be happy. Plus the Hawks are getting a generational talent in Bedard, it could be pretty exciting to be part of that. As for offer sheets… how often do they happen, barely ever. I’m sure the Rangers would match any that were made and I’d feel bad for the GM that wants to get on Drury’s bad side as he’s proven to be quite savvy so I’m confident he would not forget.

Anyone who thinks Goodrow will be bought out isn't paying attention to how Drury operates. He easily could have bought out Nemeth this summer and opted to trade assets to get rid of him. Drury has done extremely well making trades except for the Buchnevich deal. He will find a way to move Goodrow, but I think the return will be better than others expect. I completely agree with Breadman-10, packaging Goodrow with Jones (who does not fit into what Gallant wants on the 3rd pair) could return some picks for the upcoming draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FreeTacosAreBestTacos</b></div><div>Nah, i'm not sure it'll cost that much to dump Goodrow, there are teams out there who'd be looking for a guy like him, esp. if the Rangers go deep (again) this year. I agree on Miller, but that money is made up with room to spare, esp considering they wouldn't re-sign Kane at that price</div></div>
I agree, Goodrow can be moved for a return (not sure of what or how much), this is not Patrick Nemeth they are trading. Goodrow can be a useful player, he is on a bloated salary but on a team with space where he would be on the 3rd line I could see a market. I am curious as to how much Miller gets, but Drury could always bridge him and when he will be due a new deal the cap will have gone up significantly. Not sure if Drury would do that. The real question is will Kane take a much friendlier deal and will he need hip surgery, so he starts on LTIR. I wouldn't offer Kane more than 2.5 million but I am not Drury.

I think if Drury could get more than a 5th or 6th he would have been traded already. Rangers are likely to carry one forward and one d-man because they are so tight against the cap. If that is the situation then Hunt is likely to be the guy sent to the minors to keep Gauthier and at the low cost Hunt makes, I'd expect him to get claimed. Gauthier has no future here, trade him for what you can get. Doesn't matter to me that he may work in Tampa or Colorado, he will never work here and we have other kids who could make an impact Cuylle, Trivingo, and Othmann if he doesn't go back to juniors.

I pointed out 2/9 that aren’t soft and it’s obvious they aren’t. I’m not making arguments about the other 7, maybe all 7 are, maybe 3 are…irrelevant. I’m saying it’s not all 9 as you initially suggested 🤦🏻♂️
Also, you don’t need an entire team of Tom Wilson’s to win 😂. Every team that has won had soft skill as well as tough. War of attrition 😂 most of those top 9 have seen a conference finals.</div></div>
Yes many of these players have seen an Eastern Conference Finals, but also the team couldn't do anything after game 2. Strome, Copp, and Vatrano are gone, so 1/3 of the top 9 in the Eastern Conference Finals won't be back. I am glad Trocheck is here to add a physical presence, I completely agree you don't need a team of Tom Wilsons, but you do need some physical players and guys who will stir things up. Look at the difference Kadri made for the Avs. Yes I concede Kreider and Laf are not soft, but I fully expect them to be on the top line and the middle 6 you had listed isn't built for the playoffs. Trocheck on the 2nd line makes a difference, Goodrow or Blais will hopefully be on the 3rd line. Carpenter, Hunt, Rydhal, and Reaves certainly can provide the physical edge on the bottom line plus guys like Cuylle or Trivingo are not going to shy away from physical play if they end up on the pro team.

Schneider is not going to be traded, when all of the Rangers younger players such as Laf, Miller, Jones, and Kravstov (if still here) ELC deals are up next year the Rangers will have one player on an ELC... that player is Schneider. He isn't going anywhere.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>Bad penalties? He took 3 penalties last year...drew 9. If you want to see bad penalties- see Ryan Strome or Ryan Reaves.
Hands of stone- can't disagree. Don't like your assessment of "one move to the net"- because that move consistently works...if he'd only finish every so often!
Hockey IQ- everyone seems to go there...I guess at this point he shows little- but it's amazing how a little luck and a little success can change an assessment like this- if he is only given a chance to play! At 800 K he's almost as cheap as roster spots come...and the guy has the size and speed to be able to open up ice for others. And he back checks like his next paycheck depends on it!
Don't think asking a 3rd is out of line. Any 3rd is a low % NHLer- so taking that flier on a guy- who if he figures it out in the NHL can be dangerous- is a worthwhile risk to take....and even if he becomes AHL fodder- that's not the end of the world.</div></div>
14 penalty minutes in 30 games the year before, he seemed to always take high sticking penalties in the offensive zone or interference penalties for no reason from memory. I wouldn't say going to the net move works consistently when he scored a grand total of 5 goals with the Rangers the past 2 years. If the Rangers could get a 3rd round pick for him, that deal would have been completed already. He certainly has potential, but he will never be a top 6 guy here, they don't seem to even be willing to use him in a top 9 role. I'd rather he get traded for a 5th or 6th and get a chance somewhere else.

Cannot argue with that, he has speed and size. Best thing for him would be to go to a young team with no pressure where he will get minutes. Hopefully, Drury makes that happen, as it would be best for all parties.

Gauthier had plenty of chances, however he is maddeningly inconsistent. He takes bad penalties and only knows one move, go to the net. A trade to a team where he will get middle 6 minutes is what he needs. Hopefully he turns it around, but he reminds me of a Michal Grosek who the Rangers got from the Sabres, has all the skills and talent, but hands of stone.

9/9 aren't soft... have you ever watched Panarin? He's a great player, but he will avoid a hit at all costs, even if it means turning over the puck. Copp is far from a physical player, especially with his concussion history. Strome throws the body around, usually taking dumb and unnecessary penalties. Mika uses his frame, but isn't exactly throwing around the body. Vatrano for someone who isn't huge, threw around the body and wasn't afraid to mix it up. Stastny and Kravstov offer nothing in the way of physicality. I really enjoyed the last line, "make up for soft skilled forwards" admitting the top 9 you have isn't going to necessarily be up for a war of attrition come the playoffs.

If Drury could get a 3rd and a 4th for Gauthier and Hunt, he would have personally drove them to the airport. I think a 6th for Gauthier would be possible, but more likely a 7th and there are plenty of Hunt types available in Free Agency. Reaves isn't being traded, for better or worse.

I saw the trade you posted and you said above, the Rangers will downgrade from a 2nd to a 4th round pick to get rid of Nemeth. Well it cost a 2nd and a conditional 3rd or 2nd rounder for a prospect who isn't likely to make the NHL. I wish it would have only cost a 4th, but I'm more surprised he agreed to go to Arizona, guess he wants to play in front of 5,000 people who will boo him as opposed to 18,000.

That top 9 is all skill and will get pushed around, certainly isn't going to do well in the playoffs. Drury has been preaching to make this team more balanced, I am expecting him to create a 3rd line that has speed, can be used as a shutdown line, while turning the 4th line into an energy line that can skate. I don't see these moves happening with Drury here.

I agree on Kakko, he hasn't been given a true run at 2nd line minutes or PP 1 minutes. Also, he's been terribly unlucky health wise, if he can stay healthy and get top 6 minutes, his numbers will definitely improve.

Besides the fact that no team will give the Rangers a 4th back in a cap dump plus Nemeth has an 8 team no trade which I can guarantee the Yotes are on that list... look at the top 9. This team will be a defensive black hole, that's 3 offensive lines and the 4th line is a very slow 4th line. Drury is trying to create a team that will be harder to play against and built for the playoffs, this is not that team. Also Garand will be the AHL starter, Rangers will sign a bargain bin back-up like Comrie, Lindgren, maybe Halak if they get lucky.

Nemeth buried
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>burying Nemeth isn't a terrible idea - he only costs an extra $375K this season than his buyout would. I think either option should be on the table, though - his buyout has a weird structure where it has a $1M penalty this year, no penalty next year, and than back to $1M for 24-25/25-26. If you believe the hype about the cap going back to a big increase in the next year or two once the players have paid back their escrow debt, I think the buyout is an interesting gamble.
I think Calle Jarnkrok or Colin White would be interesting adds over Statsny, in case Rodrigues gets too pricey - Jarnkrok has the lower ceiling but higher floor to me, but I think White comes cheaper and could be a good reclamation project.</div></div>
White would be a great pickup IMO provided he can stay healthy, however there is a lot of talk that he is highly coveted so not sure he will make it to the Rangers. I wouldn't complain about Jarnkrok and Rodrigues is a player Drury could have on top of his radar as he wants this team to get faster, which Rodrigues brings. Trocheck chatter has begun to pick up, I'd love to get him, but he would block Chytil from becoming the 2C. Just hoping Drury makes a good move as this will be the pivotal decision for the upcoming season, while having huge implications over the next few years.

Way too much money for a back-up goalie, we will be buying in the bargain bin unless we trade for someone who will be coming with retained salary as in Jake Allen or Khudobin. I think Comrie, Lindgren, Halak are the most realistic options. Big pass on Greiss
