Stop making a million trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>The team already said they have no plans to go into the year with 3 goalies.</div></div>
As Aecliptic said, JD said the Rangers will not have 3 goalies and Hank told teammates after the last loss in the play in round goodbye as per Hajek. Hank gets bought out, that gives the Rangers 23 million in cap room. This team was utterly dominated by the Canes, they need a 2nd line center and a left handed d-man to play top pair minutes. There will be moves, likely Tony D and Strome moved while their value is highest along with the 22nd pick, guys like Anderson and Rykov who will not get a chance here also thrown into deals.

The #1 overall pick is not going to be traded, Rangers have not had a first overall pick since 1965 when the draft was not even a real draft. You win cups through the draft
Chicago
Boston
Pens
LA
Also who is to say the Sabres don't trade ADA and a package or Ristolainen to the Leafs for Nylander who are in dire need of defenseman?
You are dreaming if you think the Rangers trade the first overall pick... it isn't happening

maybe throw in Andersson and get a 4th round pick back

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shesterkin_next_GOAT</b></div><div>that wouldn't make your trade any better buddy</div></div>
If you think we will get more than a middle 6 player and a 2nd round pick for DeAngelo (due a huge payday)... keep overvaluing Rangers players, especially one who is disliked around the league, has been suspended for abusing officials and would be on his 4th team by age 24. Labanc had a bad year on the Sharks, as did most Shark players, have you even watched him play? Having a 3rd line that can actually create offense was the key to the Rangers making a 2014 Cup run, this is a 2 line team currently, barely that, with no sure fire forward prospects even close to making the team (Barron maybe?). Please feel free to enlighten me to the haul you think we will get for ADA and Lias who is a throw in that will never play for the Rangers again.

First off, I am a Rangers fan... not sure who this "you" is that you are referring to. I would love to know which series you were watching, the Rangers had some chances they did not finish Howden, Mika, Smith missing an open net and Chtyil being robbed, and yes Hank let in some softies, but other than 2 good periods in the 3rd game, the Rangers were massively outplayed. They couldn't gain entry into the Canes zone which led to dumping and chasing (which we could never get the puck), Quinn opted to change the lines that he stuck with for 40 plus games after the first game (which set this team back even worse), Power Play looked reminiscent of the Torts era where just setting up in the offensive zone was an accomplishment, had an AHL caliber 4th line and our big guns were non-existent. Rangers were not even in this series. Reminded me a lot of Rangers Devils 2006 series where Rangers got swept with a young inexperienced team.

After seeing your post about how you are "90% sure the Rangers beat the Canes if there was no stoppage in play," not sure you are in any position to say anything is bad. Rangers had no chance in the first two games and with our best game yesterday they still got crushed, but yeah okay we could have beat them, sure!

Based on what... that we lost 5 of the last 7 before the pandemic, Kreider was injured and we had the hardest schedule left of any team not in the playoffs. We weren't making the playoffs and even if the season didn't stop, somehow we got in the playoffs not sure how you had the Rangers beating the Canes. Regular season series mean absolutely nothing.

Rumor is they are shopping Burns and LaBanc. If they move Burns they definitely will have room for ADA, even if he doesn't end up going to the Sharks, I'd look to move ADA while his value is highest. Plus we have Trouba making 8 million, Fox will get a huge raise in 2 years and Lundkvist on the way all righties.

5 years for Strome... I know Quinn loves him, but if Strome gets more than a 1 year deal Gorton is a terrible GM. Strome should be on the 3rd line, if we lose Fast I could see Strome moving to the wing to keep him with Panarin, but he really is not top 6 material on a good team.

We didn't keep Hayes as he didn't fit in the timeline, so now we are going to trade for a player 2 years older who is locked up for another 5 years... I don't see it. Also Tony D is on a show me deal, he's looked good with no training camp and is going to be playing for a huge payday. I'd rather hold onto him for now and if we aren't going to sign him long term then move him at the deadline to highest bidder.

That 4th line is soooo bad and how Haley makes this team is really bothersome as he provides less than Tanner Glass. I thought having a useless tough guy was an AV thing but apparently Gorton is just as much to blame. So disappointing, can't wait to see kids getting scratched into the Quinn bin so we can see Brendan Smith and Michael Haley

Kakko with Panarin on Second Line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GimmetheNucks</b></div><div>Read what i said. I said he is not a first line player and most likely not a top end top 6er. Is he middle to low end top 6 guy? Sure. But no team is going to be competitive with him on the top line.</div></div>
A top 6 forward is someone who deserves to be on the second line and can provide offense. I read what you said, Buch is a top 6 player on most teams in this league. Playing him on a 3rd line with less offensive minded players is wasting his talent and ability. Tom Wilson plays 1st line with Caps and helped them win a cup, it doesn’t always matter what line you are on but chemistry. Buch never played up to potential with AV as he was stuck playing with 3rd and 4th liners, for him to achieve success he needs to be top 6.

Smith
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Josh</b></div><div>There is no need for callups, unless there is an injury. Capwise, they are fine. And thats with no movement.
If there is a move, its to free up additional capspace for ADA and Lemieux - and theyll still be flush to the cap.
Brendan Smith is not the guy you want in Hartford, as the Rangers have made it clear that they want to change the culture in Hartford. He broke his hand punching a teammate last time, so I'm not sure how he'd be good for the kids.
As far as Smith with the Rangers/Quinn - while I agree with you, I am being realistic. Smith can play either side on D, and played the wing last season. So, you wont need your callup you are worried about. And I am also not a fan of this guy getting icetime over anyone, let alone a developing prospect. And that's for NY and Hartford. But Quinn has the hots for him, so I think we are stuck watching him for another 60 games this season.
I'd like to see Rykov, Hajek, Lindgren taking the #6 and #7 d spots... but, again, Quinn hasnt been too fond of the young guys not named Pionk or Howden.</div></div>
Brendan smith fought Letteri in AV’s last year when he was out of shape and banished to Hartford. He came into camp in great shape last season according to everyone, he signed the big deal, got married and got too comfortable. He is far from comfortable and with credible coaches in Hartford this season I am not worried about him being there. You said it yourself Quinn has the hots for him and sometimes you have to take the toys away from a kid if you don’t want them to play with them. Gorton has to make the right move here or Smith will play over a kid on defense or even worse over a Kravstov or Kakko when Quinn is trying to send a message.

Laine
Rangers don't need a 36 year old center who played about half the season last year due to injury. Team is rebuilding/building (whatever you want to call it). Trading for a player like that would be something they would do at the deadline if they definitely in the playoffs and think they have a chance. Fat chance that is happening and no way are they going after Koivu.
As for Laine, you want to have about 28.7 million in cap tied up in 3 players (Panarin, Trouba and Laine) that have never played for the Rangers? 35% of the entire cap in 3 players... ain't happening, especially when guys like Chytil, Kakko, Kravstov, Fox, and Shesterkin come off ELC deals this team will be in cap hell. Lastly, Davidson and Gorton believe in building the team through the draft, they are not going to undue everything they did by trading 2 first rounders.

Just have a feeling Gorton is going to keep Kreider and then sell at the deadline like he has done with
Grabner
McDonagh/Miller
Nash
Hayes
Zuccarello
Though there will be less takers at that time, the teams that think he puts them over the top may be willing to pay more, all it takes is two teams for a bidding war, which is not happening now.
I don' t see them signing Oduya, they will get another Freddy Claesson type at league minimum or promote someone from the pack.

Smith
This team is flush to the cap... that means they will have issues with call-ups unless players are put on LTIR, plus you have to factor in bonuses. Brendan Smith will be in Hartford and if he isn't the Rangers are in trouble, a rebuilding/building team should not have two defenseman who make over 4 million dollars as their 6-7 d-men. Raddysh could always be the 7th d-man or they can sign a UFA to serve as the 7th d-man at league minimum as they did with Claesson. Also Smith is a toy that Quinn shouldn't have, similar to AV with Glass, if Gorton keeps him on this team, Smith will play instead of kids which serves little purpose since Smith will not be part of this team's future, hopefully he is gone after this season.

Kakko with Panarin on Second Line
Quinn has already said he wants to play Panarin with Zibanejad on the top line, it just remains to be seen if Kakko ends up on that line, Kravstov or Buch.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GimmetheNucks</b></div><div>The 2nd line is way better than the first and it has howden in the middle. Buch is not a first line player, maybe not even high end top 6. So that trade becomes unnecessary.</div></div>
Buch finished with 38 points in 64 games. More than half a point per game, finishing 2 points behind guys like Tom Wilson, Michael Ferland, Max Pacioretty and even Zuccarello, who all like Buch dealt with injuries this year. He may not be a 1st liner, which remains to be seen, but definitely a top 6 winger.

Yeah he’s made some great moves this summer but the Shatty buyout was very shortsighted. Still would have preferred a Smith or Staal buyout and even trading Vlad or Strome with a sweetener at this point to get them off the books. Curious to see what move or moves he makes next
Does he deal Kreider for good value or hold onto him for deadline deal?
Does Gorton deal Strome or Vlad for pennies on the dollar?
Or does he do something no one is expecting?
I have to think it’s Strome of Vlad for pennies on the dollar, but we shall see.

Rangers
We aren't signing Brassard, that ship has sailed... if we are revisiting any former Rangers from the 2014 cup run it would be Brian Boyle. The Wings don't want Brendan Smith back, if anyone wanted him he would have been traded by now. To move his salary it is probably going to take a 1st or two 2nd round picks, the Rangers are not out of the build mode, we aren't trading picks. We also are not going to sign Ben Hutton, we have Hajek and Rykov fighting it out to make the team, if we sign a d-man it would be a 7th defenseman, but to be honest I could see Darren Raddysh being our 7th d-man so whoever doesn't make the team (Rykov or Hajek) gets minutes in Hartford to develop. Lettieri is not an NHL player, he will be in Hartford.

2. I hope you're right but to this point hes played better than Pionk and I think hes worth 3 mil.
3. Hoping so but its weird that no deals have gotten done yet and because of that, I don't know if there is a market for them right now.</div></div>
I think the fact Namestnikov and Strome haven’t been traded mean Gorton isn’t getting fair returns. He’s probably hoping as we get closer to the start of the season with holdouts and injuries or kids not looking ready trade partners will open up. Worst case he waives Strome or Vladdy they go for free but create cap space or they get buried and open 1.075 million.
DeAngelo is definitely worth Pionk money but he doesn’t have arbitration rights. He can take what the rangers offer or he can sit out, sitting out hurts his bank account now and in the future cause he’s likely to get even more minutes this year. His best bet is to take a 2 year deal and get the payday when he hits UFA.

1) Kravstov will make this team, I'd be shocked if he didn't
2) DeAngelo isn't going to get 3 million a season for a 2 year deal, the Rangers do not have to give him Pionk money since he doesn't have arbitration rights. If the deal is for 3 years then maybe he gets 3 million a season since you are getting a UFA year. If it is 1 year I expect it to be 1.5-1.75 million, for 2 years probably 2.25-2.5 million
3) Lastly they are going to want some wiggle room for call-ups and bonuses, one of Vlad, Strome or Kreider will go

That is definitely too much retention on Vlad, I'd be thrilled with a 4th rounder in to the 2020 draft with us retaining 1 million.
Also Brendan Smith will be buried in Hartford, no way he is on the opening night roster especially as the 7th or 8th d-man. That frees up 1.075 million in cap space.

Opening night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spanky227</b></div><div>No, I have him there for a reason. When Vlad was playing with Stamkos and Kucherov he was in the midst of one of his best seasons. He's been a tad unlucky with a PDO under 99, but besides that I really do think he is one of the best plug-n-play players we have (as he can play any role requested). With Panarin and Buchnevich, we have three highly skilled russians on one line-- yes this is more of a 1b line than a 1a line (at least on paper). The purpose of this is that there is a reason Namestnikov hasn't been traded yet, his value is so low that the rangers want to get a better return on their investment into him. What better way to boost his value than to put him in a situation where he can succeed. As we saw with Kevin Hayes, Duchene, etc, teams will overpay for a player that they think will help them win a cup. Do I think a team will pony up a 1st rounder-- he11 no, but a 2nd rounder isn't out of reach if Namestnikov has a solid season. Just look at what Ottawa got for Dzingel who produced on an expanded role in Ottawa after they tanked the last two years, back to back 56 point seasons (they got two 2nds and Duclair). Maybe swap lines one and two and it's more realistic. I think Kreider, Namestnikov, Strome and Fast are gone at the deadline anyway.
Post deadline lines:
Panarin-Zibanejad-(Buchnevich/Kakko/Kravtsov)
(Buch/Kakko/Kravtsov)-Chytil-Buch/Kakko
Lemieux-Andersson-TBD
Nieves-Howden-TBD
For Kreider, I can see a return of various picks (meaning different rounds, not multiple) and Puljujarvi or Tolvanen or another decent prospect that can fill a 3rd line role right now with potential for more.
For Strome/Namestnikov/Fast I can see a return of picks varying from 2nd round through 4th round depending on the season they are having.</div></div>
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Quinn has stated he sees Zibanejad with Panarin on top line, check the end of this article

I understand your desire to improve Vlad’s trade value but I don’t think he will be here come opening night and playing with Buch and Panarin, for as good as they are is not the same as playing with Stamkos and Kucherov, especially with Vlad playing at center with more defensive responsibilities.
